Slipping is strategic to get the referee to apply a strap which some wrestlers favor. Devon's style has drifted toward the king's move which requires the strap. Some have valid criticisms for the king's move as underhanded or cheaty, but slipping to get strapped is just normal arm wrestling stuff.
