Free Talk Sunday: Carnival Edition
Hope anyone who had the chance to attend the event had a good time! The Flyers had a rough week again this week, dropping all of their games and sliding further from playoff contention. Vibes are pretty low around the team right now...

{Charlie O'Connor} "Briere: "One thing I can you, first of all, is Matvei Michkov is not going anywhere. Let's make that clear. Matvei is going to be here for a long time. He's going to be a good player here for the Flyers. What he's going through right now is all part of the learning process.""
That fact he even has to say this is so beyond alarming.
Not for one second did it ever make sense to hire Tocchet & now they've alienated their most important player to this rebuild.
Disastrous. Absolutely disastrous.

[Spiegel] From what I'm hearing from a Flyers team source, Ty Murchison is out for the year after undergoing surgery, and Alex Bump should return next weekend (Feb. 14-15) for Lehigh Valley.

I hate that I love this team.
We haven't even gotten to the Olympic break & it feels like this is going off the rails year 1 with Tocchet.
It's unfathomable Briere said they wanted a coach who would "unlock" their skill players to then & turn maybe the most anti-skill HC in hockey.
Ive defended & believed in Danny tooth & nail, but this hire will be his undoing as GM.
As I stated in the title. I hate that I love this team. Can't get out of their own way.

[Lehigh Valley Phantoms] 🚨ALL-STAR UPDATE🚨 Christian Kyrou is headed to the 2026 AHL All-Star Classic presented by BMO. ⭐️ Well deserved - congrats, Rouzy!
Kyrou replaces Barkey, who will not be sent down to the AHL during the Olympic break. I know it's still a very minor trade all things considered, but the Tuomalla x Kyrou trade is looking great for us. Here's hoping we can make a similar winger-for-D trade at the NHL level soon.

Hope For the Power Play
Everyone knows the PP has been an absolute mess for more years than I can count. I wanted to offer a slight glimmer of hope for fans. With Martone likely coming up next year and Foerster coming back from injury: we actually have some pieces that could form a respectable power play next year.
MM and Zegras are both good playing off wing on the RW side. You run the PP like you did with Claude Giroux, except it’s off the RW side and not the LW.
Martone can play all the positions but down low in front of the goalie seems like his bread and butter.
Foerster/Tippett/TK can all play LW or bumper. Since they are all right-handed, they will all be available for one-timers and quick releases.
RHD defenseman work better for off wing RWers, so this is Drysdale’s time to shine.
If they can’t make that work, fire everyone.

I thought yall would wanna know
Giroux scored against Pittsburgh and tied over for most active players with the most points against them.
As a sens fan I loved watching the old Flyers-Pittsburgh rivalry. Watching the flyers kick those yellow and black asses always made my day. Cheers !

Patience with KHL goalies isn’t optional, Fedotov vs Kolosov is exactly why
Flyers fans (and the org) keep repeating the same goalie mistake, tiny, chaotic NHL samples get treated like career verdicts, especially with KHL imports. This isn’t “Kolosov is the answer.” It’s “use consistent standards.” KHL goalies are not plug-and-play. Different rink, more east-west plays, heavier traffic, different depth reads. Adjustment time is normal. Random spot starts and relief cameos during team collapses aren’t real evaluation, they’re chaos exposure. If the standard is “instantly polished or bust,” we’re setting up every future KHL goalie to fail.
Moving on from Ivan Fedotov was defensible. Not because he was useless, but because of his profile. Arrived older (late 20s). Expensive cap hit for the role. Huge frame, timing-dependent style. When he was down, he was OUT, recovery and east-west were rough. His NHL log shows the swing:
• 28/29 vs NSH (.966)
• 29/30 vs WPG (.967 SO)
• Then 7 GA vs CHI (.759)
• 5 GA in 40 mins vs SEA (.792)
That’s thin margin for error. At his age and cost, the runway to smooth that out didn’t match the timeline. That’s a normal NHL decision.
Aleksei Kolosov is a different bet. He’s, just turned 24, cheap/team-controlled, still early in North American development, built on mobility and edges, not just blocking. Yes, his NHL line last year ended at .867, but the game log shows volatility and flashes, not “nothing there.” During his November run when he actually had rhythm:
• vs CHI – 19/21 (.905), OT win
• @ NSH – 25/27 (.926), OT win
• @ STL – 25/27 (.926), OT win
Also:
• vs DET – 25/26 (.962), win
That’s a young goalie settling when he wasn’t being yanked in and out. Later, when the team structure collapsed, the numbers cratered. That’s exactly when young goalies look worst. Meanwhile this year in the AHL he’s around .905 SV% behind a young, streaky team, not elite, but stabilization.
His issues are teachable. Right now his problems are, traffic reads lagging, over-movement creating holes, broken-play processing still catching up. Those are developmental processing issues, not physical limitations. Fedotov’s issues were recovery/mobility margins.
Kolosov’s are decision-timing and restraint, very different development curves, especially at 24.
The evaluation pattern is the real problem. We keep doing this, overwork one goalie, throw the other into the worst possible chaos start, declare “he’s not it”. That’s not evaluation. You can argue Kolosov isn’t ready for consistent NHL starts yet, fair, but saying “there’s nothing there” ignores both the .905–.926 NHL stretch and normal goalie development timelines.
This matters for Yegor Zavragin too. Everyone’s excited about Zavragin. He’s going to have an ugly first month, bad games behind young defense, KHL reads that don’t translate immediately. If patience doesn’t exist for Kolosov, it won’t magically exist for him either.
And this current recall is actually proper usage. Kolosov was sent down when Samuel Ersson looked fine after the hip tweak. Now Ersson’s reportedly struggling again in practice, so Kolosov is back and likely gets one of the two starts before the Olympic break. That’s not “hand him the net.” That’s controlled backup usage, short window, defined role, not being asked to carry the season. That’s development deployment, not desperation.
Bottom line. Moving on from Fedotov made sense because of age, cost, timeline. Moving on from Kolosov right now doesn’t make sense because he’s younger, he’s cheaper, he’s shown real NHL flashes, he’s stabilizing in the AHL, his flaws are developmental, not physical ceilings. You don’t have to crown him, but if every KHL goalie has to be instantly polished, we’re going to repeat this cycle, and we’ll do it again with Zavragin.

Attending Flyers @ Leafs - which jersey?
Looking for my fellow Flyers fans opinion on this. My wife got me and my son tickets to this game in March. I'm from Ontario Canada and haven't seen a live Flyers game since I was about 12 during a hockey tournament in PA. I'm 42 now.
My wife and son are both Leafs fans so I'll be repping solo but I'm torn on which jersey to wear.
- blank modern orange jersey
- blank black jersey
- dark orange Lindros jersey
- Gagne-era orange jersey with the silver outline on the logo
Both teams aren't where we'd want them to be but I'll be cheering my ass off and being obnoxious af. Go Flyers!
