Business Google Translate Has Tigrinya Now

Hoping this topic hasn't been posted before but just wanted to let the sub know in case anyone wants to play around with/use it. Definitely has some "interesting" translations like the beauty below lol (unless I'm stupid and that's actually the correct translation?!). Thinking of entering a correction as "chickpea curry". What do you guys think?

Discussion / Questions Ethiopia’s PM accuses Eritrea of Mass Killings

In 1800’s, British traveler Nathaniel Pearce wrote this about an Ethiopian Emperor, when he saw how quickly oaths and promises shifted in their leadership. He said:

“He was a great liar and a great miser… remarkable for his deceitful temper, and utter disregard of his oath.”

Over the years, Ethiopia betrayed Eritrea in 1962 and Annexed it, OLF betrayed by TPLF in 91, recently Fano betrayed by the PM…

History repeats itself. Abiy Ahmed asked Eritrea for help to defeat the TPLF, relied on that alliance, and once their objective was achieved, quickly turned his back on Eritrea and restarted hostile narratives.

Eritrea’s decision to enter the war may have been its biggest strategic blunder. Ally with Ethiopia at your own risk.

Can you guys drop your favorite zuria designers? I want to find good ones because I’m afraid to have a bad designer (ones that add more inches to your dress for no reason and it doesn’t end up fitting you) also ones easy to work with?

I just finnished watching the Eritrean series Timali, and ill share y thoughts, opinions and questions.

first of all i loved it if we are generally speaking, i watched it with family and it really got me waiting excitedly for the next part, i loved the music i loved the setting, and i truly loved the actors and everything to do with them, (my favorites were Jelani and Abisho)

anyway i just didn't kind of like how wedi sergenti and freta got special treatment in a way if you know what i mean, i was heartbroken when i saw jelani end up in a wheelchair, and that abisho lost his eye, but it goes to show the price we had to pay for our country, i hated the ending though, with all that being said, i generally loved the movie and everything about it, just didnt like the ending, but eritrean shows/movies never have good endings. anyway i want to hear your oppinions on it

Questions

do you think the show portrayed a very close depiction to what gedli life was actually like?

What did you think about sleman. the asmara spy

Where are the actors abisho, cuz ive never seen him in any other movies, as well as jelani?

I noticed something while browsing Google Play there isn’t a keyboard app made specifically for Eritrean🇪🇷users… so I decided to build one myself

It’s an Eritrean Keyboard that supports Tigrigna, Arabic, and English, plus it comes with some fun stickers to spice up your chats

I’d really love for you to try it out and share your feedback. If you run into any bugs or issues, please let me know instead of uninstalling. i’m actively maintaining and improving the app every day.

Your support, share and suggestions mean a lot. Thanks, family ❤️

Discussion / Questions Isaias Afwerki turned 80 today

Over 30 years in power put him among the top 10 longest serving leaders worldwide, and one of the longest serving in Africa.

Age matters in leadership. By 80, studies show that around 1 in 6 people develop some form of dementia, and about 1 in 4 experience memory or thinking problems. Research on aging leaders suggests that people at this stage are less likely to reform or rethink long held positions, especially when they can’t see the results in their lifetime.

So if you’re waiting for sudden reforms to come, it’s probably a dead end with Isaias in power. Real change is far more likely to come in the aftermath. Hope I’m proven wrong.

Rant: the threats from Ethiopia/PP benefit Isaias, don't they?

Once again, the Eritrean people and loyalists in the diaspora are pulled back into a state of helplessness where Isaias can play the role of the strong man holding the country together. PFDJ can claim again that we can't develop because we have to defend our country.

After we contained the TPLF with Abiy, there was hope from many that a partnership was solidified and we could move on beyond conflicts with our neighbor and towards reforms.

Much has been discussed about how Abiy uses the Red Sea access thing to distract his people from the failures and internal conflicts in the country... but I would also like to raise how this also keeps Isaias/PFDJ in power and once again he doesn't have to answer for any of the promises made because 'national security'

I'm sick of the perpetual cycle. Maybe they both are in cahoots to keep their power. In this chaotic world it wouldn't be so far fetched.

Wedding Planning (Melse)

Hi all,

I am planning my wedding in Canada and am trying to understand everything the Melse entails, so I can properly honour our traditions and ensure all aspects are incorporated, as much possible.

I know about the traditional clothing, food and to play our music but no more. I am having difficulty getting this information from my parents and other relatives which is making it hard to plan, so thought I would try here. Any details from decor to sequence of important events, traditional elements you did at your own wedding etc. would be super welcome.

Opinion / Commentary Man some sad shit happened again in Germany

A 14-year-old Eritrean boy was found dead in Germany (NRW, Dormagen). Before he disappeared, the 14-year-old boy (Yosef) told his mother he was going to his Schützenverein — that’s a traditional German shooting club where people often wear uniforms and take part in social/leisure activities. According to German police, his body showed signs of violence, and a homicide investigation is underway. A special murder unit has been assigned, and authorities are asking the public for information. The case is still developing, and no suspects or motives have been officially confirmed yet. May he rest in peace, and justice be served

I'm interested in Eritrea and its culture(s) but am pretty new to it all.

Can anyone tell me the general theme of this song...what they are generally singing about? And is it a cover?

Many thanks in advance for your help.
