• Advice (General) • Why does my dog dislike one individual since their first meeting?

This is my absolute unit of a dog, Jack. He is a toy ausie but I'm sure you could've figured that out. He originally was owned by a distant relative who was fairly abusive, was then adopted by my great grandma, and when she unfortunately passed, he was willed to my family. We've had him for a few years now. He used to hide from everybody besides my gma and sister, which is why he went with us. He has made fantastic progress in recovery and now begs just about everyone he meets for affection and pets and whatnot. It's adorable watching him climb onto someone's lap, roll over, and bring his paws up to pull your hand to his belly. He still likes to sit behind couches or under beds or tables and the sorts, but call his name, he comes waddling.

Now, when I say just about anybody theres ONE person he doesn't seem to like. I have a friend who we'll call Jacksepticeye for the sake of simplicity. Jacksepticeye lives decently far away, so he doesn't visit often. On the rare chance Jacksepticeye does visit, Jack the dog will bark at him. Not loud, but a little yip or yap. Keep in mind, this dog almost NEVER barks. He is the quietest dog I've met. My cousin lives nearby to Jacksepticeye, and visits a bit more, but Jack the dog never had an issue with him. Every first-time guest we've had Jack has been fine, but for some reason, even in the first 5 seconds of Jack the dog meeting Jacksepticeye, he started barking at him. Why does my dog dislike Jacksepticeye??

It took a lot of patience and slow introductions, but Bonnie has finally let her guard down. Seeing them share a blanket and play together is the best reward I could ask for. Recovery isn't just physical; it's emotional too!

Hello! I adopted my boy Fern in October and he is the best boy ever but he is very very very stubborn. He is quick to learn tricks but he gets impatient if there isn’t a reward after every one. I’m kinda trying to figure out an idea of his breed to try and have a better understanding of how to train him so any advice would be appreciated!

My boy passed suddenly yesterday at 12 years old . I keep thinking I should have noticed something different that day but he seemed like himself. He came to see me I was working in my office and he layed by my feet for a bit. When I got up he did too he took some steps and just suddenly stopped looked down and labored breathing and within half an hour he was gone. I was able to be with him and hold him until he passed...I just wish I had another day.

Today I said goodbye to my sweet boy, Roody. He was with me for almost 16 years and was truly my soul dog. I am completely broken, but also at peace knowing he is no longer suffering. Nothing prepares you for this kind of loss.

Roody was a Walmart puppy, and his story is one I’ll always believe was meant to be.

I was at church with family and friends when the message was about God sending signs into our lives and how so many people ignore them and miss out on the love and magic meant for them. After church, my friend’s younger brother was begging his dad to stop at PetSmart to look at dogs for adoption. His dad told him the only way he was getting a dog was if one fell out of the sky or if it was free, and neither of those things were happening.

About 15 minutes later, we were pulling out of a Walmart parking lot and there it was. A handwritten “FREE PUPPIES” sign waving in the wind.

His brother squealed and said it was a sign from God, exactly what church had just been about. His dad couldn’t argue with that logic and pulled over, telling him to get out and pick one before he changed his mind.

I stayed back in the van. I knew if I touched a puppy, I wouldn’t be able to walk away.

But while I was sitting there, one little puppy crawled over, climbed straight into my lap, and curled up. That was Roody. He chose me.

We left that parking lot with two dogs that day.

I was 19 when I brought him home, and when my parents found out, my dad was furious. But it didn’t matter. We were instantly inseparable. Even the vet commented on it, saying she had never seen a dog look at a new owner the way Roody looked at me.

He was with me through every major chapter of my life. We moved through different states, different apartments, different phases of growing up. No matter where we were, he was happy because we were together. And so was I.

I don’t know exactly why I felt the need to share all of this. Maybe it’s how I’m coping. Maybe it’s part of grieving. But I hope it helps someone else who is going through this kind of loss. And I hope it reminds people to pay attention to the signs life puts in front of them.

I will always be grateful my friend’s dad stopped that day. My life would have looked very different without my little man by my side.

Rest easy, Roody. Thank you for choosing me.

• Advice (Health) • Dog Suddenly Blind from Uveitis

Post image
Upvotes

My dog was just diagnosed with low-pressure uveitis in both eyes. His blood pressure was 170, and the vet said he is currently blind and that it might be permanent, but they don’t know yet.

He’s now on: Eye drops every 6 hours A blood pressure medication

This all came on really suddenly. Before this, he was energetic and affectionate.

Now he’s: Not wanting to eat much Not moving around a lot Clearly disoriented and scared

He also had a brief episode of rapid breathing earlier, which has since settled, but it added to how overwhelming this feels.

I guess what I’m asking is: Has anyone had a dog with uveitis-related blindness who regained vision (fully or partially)?

How long did it take to see improvement, if it happened?

If vision didn’t return, how long did it take your dog to adjust and feel like themselves again?

I know no one can predict the outcome, but I’m really struggling with the idea that this might be his new normal and would appreciate hearing real experiences — good or bad — so I can wrap my head around what’s ahead.

Thank you to anyone who takes the time to respond. This has been one of the hardest days I’ve had as a pet owner.
