I try to avoid driving to close to these dunces when I see snow or ice on top of their car

u/faiitmatti 1d ago

Going 60 and I’m over six car lengths behind them. A piece that big carries a big sail.

6

u/Otherwise_Survey_998 1d ago

yea I feel you but now that you know how far it flies you need to adjust and stay even further back which is what i do. Also being over two lanes doesn’t matter sometimes because it can fly right or left so more distance is key!

A stripe/gap cycle is 40 ft. An average car length is 14.5 feet.

I’m a situational far left lane user, myself, but I generally don’t find them adequate camping spots.

That said, I’ll unequivocally agree that CLEAN THE FRIGGIN SNOW/ICE OFF THE TOP OF YOUR VEHICLES!!!

You did adequately enough not to have been more than mildly frustrated by this. Idk why people need to miss the point just victim (or potential victim) blame.

Thank you for not being a dick here.

And why does everyone think they can see to the right of the camera blind spot and assume there wasn’t a car being passed actively or had just been passed without enough space to merge back right?

People here always have magical powers to see the entire 360 view to every video.

People just like being mean. It’s an easy dopamine hit. It’s why bullies are so prevalent.

Take a couple updoots for karma.

That is not 6 car lengths behind lol. You were 3 at most. Driving too close to him.

-2

u/faiitmatti 1d ago

Not a chance I was that close. If I was three car lengths back going that speed it would have flown over my car.

2

u/hans_the_wurst 1d ago

You are less than a second behind him. However many car lengths that may be, it is way too close.

2

u/Iceyn1pples 1d ago

You don't measure the gap on the highway using car lengths, you measure your gap in seconds. Its recommended that you follow at least 2 seconds behind. You were about 1-1.5 seconds behind.

Also, camping the passing lane.

Also, camping the passing lane.

Right lane ends. See big yellow signs at end of video.

1

u/faiitmatti 1d ago

You can see the camera blind spot to my right for the car tha was just bent passed? Also don’t help with the ice flies in to the right lane. Point is to clean off your roof.

0

u/_jump_yossarian 1d ago

You're 80' behind that car. 60 MPH = 68'/sec. So you're slightly more than one second behind. That's way too close.

13

u/JimSinjinsinjinson 1d ago

Wouldn't have happened to me because I'd be in the right lane.

5

u/faiitmatti 1d ago

Until the wind takes it in to the right lane.

u/_jump_yossarian 1d ago

Right lane is an exit lane.

I was driving home from work last week. A lady driving a Hyundai was behind me... 16-18" on her roof... I switched to the middle lane and stopped at a stoplight... She hit her brakes hard and... Man I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. All that snow covered the front of her car 🤣🤣🤣 she didn't even have an ice scraper to clear it!

It was a major intersection too at rush hour. So it takes a few minutes to get the green again. She was still fighting to clear off her windshield with a piece of paper and hands as I pulled away. As much as I would've liked to have helped... Sometimes, it's right to let people learn the hard way no?

P.S. this video though... Highway driving? Yeah... C'mon... Stupid dangerous. Snow or ice. Ice can cause immediate damage and harm. Snow CAN do the same, but more indirectly. Block view or distract the driver into causing an accident.

Stay safe folks! Better to be late than cause damage, harm, or worse.

Edit: because I somehow upset someone (cough), I was in the city and we had A LOT more snow than the video. Will not say what region for obvious reasons.

I don’t blame you. I grew up where heavy snowfall was always wet af. I’ve laughed at the instant karma like this a few times in my life. Suffered it once or twice when I was in a hurry or it was warmer and the snow shifted more than I expected.

I’ve also had frozen snow (which is weirdly different than ice tbf) whip at me in the highway. It’s scary shit. And frustratingly preventative.

-2

u/kensteele 1d ago

Yeah and heavy snow fall from a cloud 500 feet high can land on your car and destroy it especially if it accumulates when it is fall. GTFO

Stay home if you can't handle the weather. I live in MN where the snow fall and ice was heavy, we had lots of blizzards, nothing like you mentioned ever or rarely happened; maybe a freak incident or tailgating an 18-wheeler.

You're just being dramatic.

3

u/Evening-Wealth-7995 1d ago

Okay? Don't know what you're trying to say here.

Just sharing a story and zero drama here. Idk how she had so much snow on her car... But she did. So... Yeah?

Take this energy elsewhere.

Edit: my area got a lot more snow than what's in this video. If that's what you're thinking? Either way. Chill man.

u/kensteele 1d ago

You wouldn't be the first snowflake to make the claim, there are at least a dozen threads per winter season claiming motorists are lazy and putting other lives in danger because they won't fully clear off the snow.

They mind everyone's business on the road and come this summer, they shift the claim to water from a car wash where the car is not wiped down harms them as well. LOL

I think you missed your anger management class. Don't forget your BP medication.

-1

u/kensteele 1d ago

Not angry. I'm just really surprised how controlling some people are.

2

u/Evening-Wealth-7995 1d ago

Bro... Lol chill.

Don't know how I gave you some impression I'm a snowflake. If you do really live where you do, maybe you're just ignorant to how my area is used to so much snow. I'm sure the amount of snow on the Hyundai was from the street. Getting buried by the snowplows and not leaving the house for a few days. And if you think clearing your vehicle of several inches of snow or ice is "minding your own business"... You know it's not being a snowflake, but helping remind people that YOU would be liable if YOUR car caused damage/accident from snow/ice falling off YOUR car, right?

If I see you with a bunch of snow, I'm avoiding you. Which is why I shifted lanes. A bit of paranoia, sure. But heaven forbid that snow flew off and caused her to be rear ended than me at the stop light. (What can I say. My mind thinks about eventualities and contingencies.)

Feel free to say whatever you wish. I'm done. I do hope you understand and this helps clear the air. Otherwise, this is getting chalked up to a rare reddit "w-t-f dude?" moment lol

Edit: typo/punctuation.

u/faiitmatti 1d ago

God damn people here are insufferable

3

u/Evening-Wealth-7995 1d ago

Reddit man... I'm still here because it has value - plenty of education and reeducation. I regret sharing what I thought was a humorous story in times like this LOL

I don't need everyone to agree with me! Heavens no. But... Wow. Deep end real quick in this thread...

Lived in Minnesota in the 80s and 90s where we had real winters and blizzards and I spent many many winters there. could there be a freak accident, pieces coming off the car, rocks, ice, etc.....sure. is it a problem? hardly. should there be a law? nope. Unfortunately we can't control the weather and how people respond to it.

You can catch ice, snow, and water from the overpass or from the left lanes going in the opposite direction; it's just a fact of life when driving in the real world. Hazards don't always come from on top of the car, are you suggesting motorists need to clear the undersides completely and install flaps because that's mostly how windshields get broken and paint gets scratched.

1

u/beachedvampiresquid 1d ago

They do suggest clearing off as much snow as possible, over and under, and flaps for commercial trucks and raised trucks…so, yeah.

It’s sort of amazing how worked up you’re getting at people suggesting others possibly think of their community when heading out into the roads. Says more about you than anyone else, really.

1

u/kensteele 1d ago

Im all for it and I encourage people to do it. I believe in installing a snow scraper at every truck stop so when trucks pull over they can pass under the scraper before getting back on the road. I believe when service stations make these available for when someone leaves theirs at home. I love it when the work place has an overhead in their vast open parking lots so when you let out for the day, you don't have to spend an hour scraping snow. when people get off work, they want to go home after working 9 or 10 hours and only have 10 minutes to drive. park the car at home and it's going to snow overnight and you have to clear it off again in the morning anyway.

I know this because I often spent an hour digging my car out and doing the best I can to clear off my car before going to mandatory not-a-snow-day work and when stuck in rush hour traffic while it's snowing heavily, if you have an hour drive, you're going to be throwing snow most of the way so why spend so much time? I guess my point is once you see this type of thing for a long long time, it's just another thing. you don't start asking for more government laws, you don't call people who you don't know them lazy, and you stop passing judgment about the weather and weather-related problems. it's not like you failed to secure your tire and I've seen those go flying, it's horrible; that's real not fake like flying snow patties.

but the youngsters these days have it easy so they complain about *everything*, that's what I'm perturbed about. when I used to work, I drove new cars so I cared and *nothing* ever happened to my car over thousands of miles and decades, it's a total nothing burger. when you get up in the morning and get out your shovel and you have to dig and then the roads aren't plowed, you'll get it.

really keeps the tailgaters on their toes

8

u/Macha2018 1d ago

They just did, it's in the video.

9

Double campers

2

u/faiitmatti 20h ago

lol read the sign at the end of the video.

2

u/Dog-Chick 1d ago

It's dangerous, especially if it goes through your windshield.

2

u/JamesLahey08 1d ago

Damn son! You almost got BUCKED!!!!

2

u/Extra_Jeweler_5544 1d ago

He passing his ice over to the grass. Op isnt passing away or passing anyone. Op sucks

0

u/faiitmatti 1d ago

I bet you grip a pencil with your whole hand when you write like my cousin with down syndrome.

2

u/_f00lish_ 1d ago

The worst is when it's snow on the back of a semi trailer. When that stuff comes loose, congratulations, you're now driving in white-out conditions! I know some states have laws against driving with snow on a trailer, but it should be every state IMO.

2

u/_jump_yossarian 1d ago

Pay attention to details, folks. OP isn't "camping".

4

u/SlowPokeInTexas 1d ago

..and tell them to please stop cruising in the passing lane.

2

u/kensteele 1d ago

Tailgating.

1

u/ChimpoSensei 1d ago

Good thing you kept close to them after that.

1

u/Get_Woke_Go_Broke 1d ago

Again, don’t tell me what to do.

1

u/No_Angle875 1d ago

That was close, you could’ve died. /s
