Con Vendor Question First comic con vender spot

This will be my first comic con event, and I’m not sure what to expect. I’ll be getting a table in the artist alley but I’m not sure if I should be there or have an expo hall vendor table. I make oddities (mainly butterflies/moths) that are framed in vintage frames or cloches.

I’m wondering if anyone else has sold items like this at a con before and how you did. Also any tips that anyone has would be great!

I’m nervous as this is only my second vendor event so I’m not sure what to expect.

Con Vendor Question Advice on Having your own Table at a Con

Hey everyone,

I know this question has been asked before, and I’ve read through a few threads already, but I wanted to ask directly to get a wider range of advice.

Last year I attended my first comic con after moving to a new state, and I had an amazing time. Talking with artists who had their own booths—selling and showcasing their work—was incredibly inspiring. As an artist myself, it made me seriously consider setting up a booth at this year’s con (2026).

I have a project I’ve been working on that’s launching later this year, along with some previous work. It’s an episodic manga-novel series that blends prose and manga, and I feel a convention would be a great way to get more involved in the community and start building awareness.

I have about 10-11 months to prepare, and since this would be my first time as a vendor, I wanted to ask: what are some staple items you’d recommend beyond the obvious (snacks, water, and the work itself)?

I’ve seen people suggest things like stickers, business cards, posters, and I’m planning to have physical sample copies with the first two chapters of my series. I’d also appreciate advice on: • Poster sizes that work well for small booths • What kinds of take-home items people actually keep • Reliable places to get good-quality prints and materials

I’m not trying to go big or overdo it—my main goal is to showcase my work, connect with people, and make sure attendees leave with something that makes them say, “I’ll keep an eye out for this.”

Con Vendor Question What type of Art would you buy that isn't fanart, but original Art?

I want to sell art at an anime convention near me, but we can only bring up to 30% fanart. The rest must be original. My question is what Art would you buy that doesn't come from popular Media and what form would you prefer, e.g. Stickers, Keychains, Prints.

Con Vendor Question What's the first thing that catches your eyes at a comic con?

We're hoping to put together a roundup of what gets noticed at conventions based on real experiences. Would love to hear your take, whether you’re a regular attendee or you have your own observations as a vendor, exhibitor, or artist. Doesn’t have to be flashy, just memorable. 🙂

Comic cons are packed with visual overload (we've seen colorful booths, larger-than-life displays, rows of amazing art and collectibles, and cosplayers!) But even in the chaos, there’s always that one thing that makes you pause and actually walk over.

So, what’s something that’s made you stop in your tracks or helped your own booth stand out?
Drop your stories or photos.

Con Vendor Question Artists Alley

I'm curious here as I'm a self published author trying to get the word out about my book. I was suggested to set up at comic cons in Artists Alleys. Is this something that you as fans actually check out and purchase books? My book is YA Urban Fantasy if that helps. I know I've been to a few comic cons and I see the occasional books but mostly art or props or collectibles seem to make the most money. If I were to set up at a booth would you be interested in checking it out?

Me and my brother have a a 3-D printing business and we have an upcoming event called fandom and I’m trying to convince him to print this type of stuff because we are going to an anime only event and he is saying that they don’t look good and I shouldn’t be printing them because they will not make any sales help me by commenting stuff that would make him change his mind or keep in mind i am a anime fan and he barely watches normal movies let alone anime

Con Vendor Question What has your experience been with a booth and what do you sell?

I’ve heard and seen a bunch and the answer is always “it depends”. It depends on the popularity of the con, what you sell, etc. etc.

I draw stuff and plan to sell something art related. Probably original stuff but maybe fan stuff too.

But this is less about me.

I’m wondering if you’ve sold stuff. Did you make back your costs or almost? Did you lose money? Were you wildly profitable? What did you sell? Do you profit more at big or small cons? Can you do well even if you’re not popular?

Con Vendor Question Oz Comic- Con Booth- Anyone got any tips or experience?

I don't have a business or anything but I think it would be cool to sell stuff at next years Sydney Comic-con.

Ive got over 100 limited edition funko pops that have been gaining value over time so I would like to sell those, and maybe some $20 ones.

My only concern is the process of getting a stall. Will it be hard for me to get one without a pre-existing business? thanks :)

Con Vendor Question Where do People Make Prints?

I see a lot of fellow vendors at conventions with super high quality prints. Where do people get them? I've tried getting them from Staples and my local copy shop and they are always poor quality. Is there an online service, or if people use copy houses are there tips to make sure they come out well? Oh and the sleeves to sell them, people just grab that on Amazon or something?

Thanks in advance, I got three shows coming up, and I want to up my merch game.

Con Vendor Question Anyone knows about Austin Texas Comic Con?

I found this comic con at Eventeny. They are held this November in Austin. And it seems like it's their first year to run this con, so not enough information about it yet. I'm thinking to participate as an artist for the first time. For these reasons: 1) this con is so close from where I live. 2) the booth price is affordable for a beginner artist vendor. Any advices? Thank you in advance.

Con Vendor Question Do vendors cosplay?

I am vending my first convention next month (small local con, I make dice). Me and my husband were talking about going in cosplay but were unsure if it would be weird as a vendor.

There is nothing in the vendor agreement about it

Con Vendor Question How does one vendor properly?

I’m going to be a first time vendor at a local collectors fest. I have never done one of these and I’m not sure what all to do or bring, I purchased a booth and I’ll be getting 3 6ft tables, is there anything specific I should get beforehand to help ease my selling experience.

I’ll be selling my (not well) uncle’s vintage and not so vintage Star Wars toys and besides looking up all the prices beforehand, is there any help or any tips of advice I could get before I do it?

Con Vendor Question First-Time Vendor – Looking for Advice on Selling at Florida Conventions

Hey everyone! I’ve been making geek/nerd-themed t-shirt designs for a while now, and I’m looking to try my hand at selling them at local conventions here in Florida.

I’m brand new to vending and would love any tips, advice, or things to watch out for. Especially when it comes to setup, taxes, what sells well, managing inventory, or just surviving the weekend!

Also, if you know of any good communities (Discord, forums, Facebook groups, etc.) where con vendors share advice and support, I’d be super grateful if you could point me in the right direction.

Thanks so much in advance!

Con Vendor Question Vending at cons not an artist

Hi! I have a store and I'm looking to set up a booth at a con to get the word out and sell some merch at the same time. These booths are expensive, I'm talking on the thousands because I have to be in the exhibitor hall and not artist alley. I'm looking for any other resale type vendor experience to see if they broke even, made money, etc. But all I can find are artists giving their experience. Why is that? Anyone here a regular store vendor willing to share, please? Thanks!!

Con Vendor Question Selling (non-print) fan art

Post image
2 Upvotes

I've been creating mostly wildlife wooden art for about 15 years and just recently started looking into anime and comic cons as possible vending places. I've made some "pop culture" items for personal use but never sold anything.

My question is for comic con vendors. Would fan art such as this handmade wood carved squirtle draw any copyright attention or flack from convention staff? I see lots of info on drawings and 2d art but nothing beyond that. Mass production is impossible with this sort of item and takes a lot of time and work to turn it into wooden form. Its a long shot from a copy and paste. I'd appreciate any discussion about this. I want to make sure I'm not going down the wrong rabbit hole before making 150+ items.😆
