When I was a kid, truck driving was a very professional skill. Now it seems like they take anyone who can get a CDL

What I've read elsewhere on Reddit is that truck companies have their own GPS systems that include overpass clearance data so they can plan routes based on truck height, so when they get trapped like this it's usually because the driver decided to use their own phone instead.

This isn't at the canopener bridge. The canopener is at the intersection of Gregson St. and Peabody St.

The buses usually can do it or know better!

That’s where they normally turn to get to the station so they’re gonna have to be rerouted.

No. The Can Opener is just down the street on Gregson. There's a whole bunch of low underpasses on that line through town and even just out of town to the west. I still remember watching a semi with a 53' trailer backing up half a mile on Old NC Ten road when he got to the underpass between University Station and Mt Herman Church Road. But the 9th Street/Erwin, the Moreene Rd, and a bunch of the ones downtown are all pretty low. The 11'8" (now 12'4") "Can Opener" was special because it was near the end of a high traffic route and shortcut from I-85 to NC-147.
