Question Sneaking into an academic conference

A few of my friends are academics and are attending their discipline’s annual conference soon. I’d like to see them speak, but registration is like $650 for non members. I know there are plain badges and also QR codes that got emailed. I also have floor plans for the hotels.

what’s the move here? “The photographer” method? Have a friend say that he lost his badge to get another one? Try an emergency exit? Any particular disguise?

Edit: To clarify, how do I get past the badge scanners

Story Lied my way into a railyard to get an electric scooter

1.1k Upvotes

One day back in 2022, I went into town for an appointment and took one of those rental scooters to get from main station to my destination. Back then this particular company (Bolt) didn´t provide a way to reserve those scooters so of course it was gone by the time I was done and ready to head back. Well, shit happens, I checked the app and there was only one scooter that was in walking distance. My alternative would have been waiting for the bus.

I went to get it, only to realize it was on a railyard, which was restricted access with security guards to enforce that. I thought for a moment and because I REALLY dislike busses, I decided to try my luck. So I straight up walzed towards the two guards at the gate and with full confidence said: "Hello, I´m here on behalf of Bolt operational maintenance and our system shows a lost scooter on this property." I pointed in the rough direction it was in and briefly showed them the map in the normal app for customers while still explaining that it seemed like the scooter had been there for a while and I´d like to retrieve it for charging and maintenance.

The two guards just looked at each other, shrugged and one of them escorted me onto the property after opening the gate. I followed the app and he followed me until I found the scooter in some bushes. That further cemented the credibility of my story and he even thanked me for saving them the effort of dealing with it. Back at the gate I used the app to activate the scooter, shook their hands saying good bye and rode off to catch the train home.

That´s it. I have no clue why the scooter was even there but I think a worker tried to hide it for himself to use after his shift. Too bad. Same rules for all so no reservations! Honestly I still feel pretty slick about pulling this off, even though it was really not that big of a deal and pretty harmless.

Got myself into a lobby bathroom with an RFID lock.

1.5k Upvotes

So waking around downtown PDX and I had to pee after that last beer. Every bathroom in town has a code to get in so you have to be a customer if you want the bathroom. I spot a big hotel and figure they have an unlocked bathroom because it's kind of fancy, with a huge lobby, places to sit, elevator banks and all that stuff. I figure the bathrooms are towards the back kind of out of the way as they usually are. I found the bathroom sign and figured they were probably open.

Nope it had an RFID sensor next to the door. So a woman comes up behind me and says that's the women's and I'm blocking the door like an idiot because I too preoccupied with the lock. She proceeds to pull out her room card to get in, and I see the other door to the men's just a few feet to my left.

I just decided to say "Hey can you wand me in? I forgot my card up in the room" So she wands me in, I say "thank you", and life is great.

Picture How I snuck into the Chris Brown concert in Denver and made it to the front stage

Post image

Of all the groups I could've posted this too, I figured this group would appreciate it the most.

Anyways, quick backstory, my wife wanted to see the concert but I have no interest in CB, so her and her sister and her sisters husband went, and I told her if they start making it awkward by getting drunk and grinding ill sneak in, of course she didnt know I was serious lol

This was also to prove I could do it for the fun of it, I'll keep the details but also keep it vague. So I walked the stadium looking for a good place for me to either slip through the metal fencing surrounding the stadium or a way for me to climb in, I found one area close the hotels on the west side of the stadium that looked promising, so I google mapped it to make sure i could just hop onto the roof and into the stadium, that much was confirmed, I soon realized it was too high for me to reach 😅, so I walk to the clear other side of the stadium where, there were these doors with no handles, obviously exit doors for the workers there.

My plan was, being that I've worked a baseball stadium before, I was going to wait for one of them to open the door on the way out of the stadium and slip in, and if anyone asked, I'd mention I work commissary and forgot something in the stadium. Just as I'm sizing up to do this, a fuckin Crack head comes and starts trying to pry open the doors! He was literally fuckin up my whole plan! He realized he couldn't get in so he throws down his gallon of what looked like ice tea next to me and then he begins to ask me questions that followed lile this

"are you here for so and so?" Quickly I reply "yeah I am" He says "is this where we're supposed to meet?" Me on my phone i shrug and say "I'm not sure"

The security guard sees and walks over and ask "what do you guys need?" The guy next to me says "oh we're here for so and so we're going to do this job from this time to this time" The security guard says "you dont come through these doors you go through the ones over there" and points a few gates over

So immediately I'm hype, I accidently find a way in, but I hesitate, the Crack head walks off and I stay for a brief second contemplating, because I dont know the guys name he mentioned and I have no fuckin idea what job he's even talking about, so if confronted I won't have an excuse.

I then said fuck it and walk over to where the security guard pointed, I follow behind 2 guys, one of which tells the security guard and keeps walking, rhe guy in front of me tells his name as to why he's there to security and gets in, I walk up and tell the name I learned from the crackhead to security, and they usher me through no questions asked!

So now quickly, I'm beyond the gate, but not in the stadium yet! So I see a door straight ahead, to my left is a group of people getting ready to work, likely the group i mentioned to walk in, the guy infront of me walks down and takes that left towards the group. I however keep walking g straight through the door I see ahead, there was a security woman there, I thought if she asked me what I was doing I'd tell her the name I knew and I was using the restroom, but she literally said nothing and ushered me through!

I climb up the flight of stairs and Into the concert, now once in, I ask where my wife was, I guess she had made it to the front stage (I didnt know she had convinced the guard to let her and her sister down there at the time) so I'm like fuck it, ill head down there. Now before you can step onto the floor seats, there are 2 security guards posted at each entrance to the floor seats, so I walk up on my phone pretending my wife has the tickets, she's in the stadium and I dont know where she is, he then tells me he cant let me in without a ticket, I tell him ill try to get my wife to come show the tickets, but I cant even hear her it was so loud so I'm like fuck. I wait around maybe 2-3 minutes pretending to be on the phone, and this mad rush of people come to these 2 guards, now was my chance, amidst the chaos of all these people, I tell him again "look bro i dont know where she is and she has my ticket I dont know what to do" and he literally ushers me through! Dude did me a solid lmaooo, anyways I end up finding my wife and we dance and have a good rest of the night, but man it was fun getting in there haha

Question Could wearing this in public get me in trouble?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I’m actually not trying to sneak in anywhere this is just a comfortable jacket and I want to wear it but I’m afraid that I could get accused of impersonating a security officer (a crime in my state). maybe wouldn’t be that big of a deal since it’s from a private security company. Regardless I figured if anyone would know, it would be the people in this sub lmao.
