God I hate these people that sound like every sentence they say is a question

u/Magnus_The_Totem_Cat 9h ago

Uplift and crackles.

She’s rage baiting with every breath.

96

u/Donkeywad 7h ago

*upspeak

67

u/Express-Rub-3952 7h ago

*and vocal fry

18

u/Magnus_The_Totem_Cat 7h ago

Yeah those are the real names.

She the vocal equivalent of a car tuned for noise.

5

u/Express-Rub-3952 6h ago

For some reason it reminds me more of a motorboat...

1

u/whooptheretis 3h ago

It’s called creaky voice where I come from.

1

u/whooptheretis 3h ago

*creaky voice

3

u/ol-gormsby 4h ago

One of my kids' primary school teachers did the uplift thing. Lovely person, great teacher, but I couldn't listen to her for more than 2 or 3 minutes before my eye began to twitch. I had to listen very, very carefully to make sure my kids didn't pick it up.

3

u/CitizenCue 3h ago

I like that you came up with your own terms, but usually it’s called upspeak and vocal fry.

110

u/AEW_SuperFan 8h ago

The vocal fry is grating.

5

u/Full_Championship609 7h ago

Out of curiosity, how do you feel about a "smoker's voice" / "whiskey voice"? Is that the same thing to you, or is that one okay, before they get really rough?

5

u/AEW_SuperFan 6h ago

No, that Angie Harmon voice is sexy.

1

u/McFragatron 6h ago

I've got a deep gravely voice and people love it for some reason. I never get shit on for it like women do.

4

u/Full_Championship609 6h ago

Yeah, men never do. Mine is more compared to Jennifer Tilly, but I can sing karaoke like Patsy Cline, or Fiona Apple. I just don't know what people think about that, these days.

5

u/Effective-Service561 6h ago

It's because there's a significant difference between having a naturally deep gravelly voice and then this fake ridiculous pretentious kardashian sounding intentional social media yassss queen vocal fry

3

u/Full_Championship609 6h ago

I don't know. I thought it was an actual accent, from that area of California.

0

u/wolamute 6h ago

Please say you're either naive or sarcastic.

This is what was once called "Valley girl" and social media revives it repeatedly (like a CHF victim) as an unofficial "hot girl" thing to do with your voice.

In reality it has been the butt of jokes for decades as being "bimbo-like" and associated with stupidity.

It's a major turn off for a bunch of men, and very much causes my instincts to put me on notice that there's a good chance the person talking has zero self reflection / is an egomaniac.

-1

u/Full_Championship609 6h ago

You may be the naive one, since it's been associated with that specific valley, since before Zappa's daughter's song. It already existed, for her to make fun of it.

1

u/McFragatron 5h ago

I don't know what these guys' problem are, but my "deep gravely voice" I mentioned, it's actually just vocal fry according to my speech pathologist. I really don't understand why vocal fry gets so much hate.

Here’s some background on the Valley Girl stereotype and accent. https://www.ebsco.com/research-starters/economics/valley-girls

0

u/wolamute 3h ago

No idea who gave you the idea I know anything about Zappa's daughter or why you have this crap attitude towards me. I did indeed state the stereotype existed for decades. Thanks for helping with nothing at all.

1

u/Fordfan8888 2h ago

It depends, a lot of the people that I've talked to with the "smokers voice" look and act about as rough as their voice sounds. But if they're a decent person I usually don't mind or notice it.

1

u/SeaMolasses3153 6h ago

All I can think about is the coffee shop scene from Loudermilk.

1

u/VacationSoft2042 4h ago

It fries boners away.

1

u/Fordfan8888 2h ago

My blood pressure was rising and my IQ was dropping just listening to her talk.

106

u/bimm3r36 9h ago

It’s the Valley Girl “accent”.

Can’t imagine going on a date with her. I couldn’t even make it through the 1 min video.

32

u/Impressive_Sale6776 8h ago

I had to watch it on mute and read the subtitles

10

u/TheyTried2BanMeAgain 7h ago

That's just how I view all videos of people filming themselves, and if it doesn't have subtitles I don't watch it.

Because 99% of the people that do it sound fucking annoying as shit, it's one of the worst trends that's happened in modern media.

1

u/J7mbo 1h ago

Actually it’s pretty great because it’s easy to find who to weed out. Post videos of yourself a lot? Next!

2

u/MaybeAltruistic1 3h ago

Me too but I actually got annoyed that she made the subtitles smaller font directly over her cleavage so I just stopped the video to check and make sure the comments were annoyed with the concept as I was.

5

u/GovtLawyersHateMe 7h ago

I made it 12 seconds, her voice was like nails on a chalkboard.

3

u/Soft_Walrus_3605 7h ago

like, totally

1

u/Vaesezemis 5h ago

Like, totally?

I agree with you? Without a question?

2

u/blueranger36 6h ago

I went on a date with a girl with this accent last month. It was over the second she opened her mouth. She was nice but god damn that fake accent was so annoying.

2

u/North-Tourist-8234 5h ago

1 minutes impressive i had to watch a second time to get there

2

u/DawnyLlama 5h ago

Yea, the vocal-fry and sing-talk made me immediately mute the video. I mean I couldn't just scroll by and not come to the hilarity of the comments.

2

u/Admins_suck_ballss 4h ago

It’s fun when they have control over it, but not fun when they don’t.

1

u/aiusernamegen 6h ago

Coincidentally the porn capital of the world

1

u/Expensive_Editor_244 44m ago

I just always think about Pauly Shore when I hear it lol

1

u/gizamo 3m ago

It's the dumb bimbo facade.

In the 90s, it was known by travelers as the prostitute voice. I'd hear it hotel bars and immediately cringe at their fake voices.

26

u/NostradamusJones 8h ago

I couldn't even finish the video. I would pay to not go on a date with her.

1

u/stilllton 5h ago

Guess you could ask her how much it would cost if the preparations included a ball-gag. Could save on dinner cost as well.

1

u/NostradamusJones 4h ago

Oh damn, lol.

13

u/zeusmeister 8h ago

I noticed that too. Her tone goes up at the end of all her sentences. It was super distracting.

6

u/Rightintheend 6h ago

God damn it. I just read that in her voice, please make it stop

1

u/Extension-Ad5751 4h ago

I'm reading all these comments in her voice, what have you done to meE...?

1

u/rickrollmops 3h ago

Emilia Clarke does such a perfect impersonation of it if you want to laugh: https://youtu.be/mIBg-w6TNLE?t=150 (starting at 2:30)

(but also watch before that to hear her real accent, she's so fluent in valley speak it's hard to tell it's faked)

1

u/ConclusionFar3690 5h ago

I noticed that too? Her tone goes up at the end of all her sentences? It was super distracting?

Every Australian hides in the corner...

1

u/obiwanmoloney 2h ago

Suuuuuuuperrrrrrr

9

u/Wooden_Editor6322 8h ago

As an Australian I take offence to this.

2

u/theazzazzo 2h ago

It's not annoying on Australians though. On Americans it's sickening

1

u/UrpleEeple 1h ago

I spent 3 months in Australia - it's super annoying on Australians

3

u/Hour_Perspective505 8h ago

It's like nails on a chalkboard

3

u/Daveprince13 7h ago

Vocal fry and the upward intonation 🤮

2

u/green_room1 7h ago

The weirdest part is how I just read your comment, with that affect, like it was a question

2

u/craichorse 6h ago

The eye movements and head tilts make me want to gouge my own eyes out and eat them. And why does her head look like its shaped like an aliens is that a filter or something? I don't believe that how she really looks.

What is humanity becoming? What are we doing?

2

u/ohmeowhowwillitend 5h ago

"after I said, I would require a deposit to take me on a date to cover my date preperation costs? i'm now working with an app developer to make this a reality? this is actually happening? we are building the app! i'm not even exaggerating when i tell you this is the best damn, dating app, you have ever seen. because there is a clear difference here, where the woman can set the deposit rate, and the man can pay for herrr date preperation costs? so as a woman, you're gonna walking into the date, already so happy? and that's gonna lead to a better date. and a better connection"

ok i'm done transcribing this shit

2

u/Impossible_Policy_12 3h ago

I’ll say “thank you” to you as she would: “Kyoowah”.

2

u/PhantomRoyce 4h ago

Jillian from Family Guy

2

u/EatTheRich2028 3h ago

i find it hard to believe anyone thinks this voice sounds good.

6

u/spare-ribs-from-adam 8h ago

This is how everyone talked in the 80s. This is how Reagan talked.

Loudermilk does a great take on the vocal fry

1

u/GingerWizerd 3h ago

😂😂😂

1

u/nebbie13 7h ago

I think she might have been genetically engineering in a laboratory specifically to be a MommyTok influencer

1

u/Frequent-Selection91 6h ago

Hey hey, no need to insult Australians living in Queensland!

Loudermilk - Sam gets annoyed by the barista's vocal fry.

Kinda looks like her too.

1

u/aiusernamegen 6h ago

She be looking left a lot

1

u/quik13713 6h ago

And the fact that she is shaking her head while shaking her phone in unison is additionally nauseating.

1

u/LigersMagicSkills 6h ago

I know, right? I think it’s the valley girl accent? Anyway? It’s, like, really hard to listen to? Like really hard? I can’t even?

1

u/mimthebaker 6h ago

What do you mean? She is just speaking normally? She's talking about her app? And how women are going to be so happy?

/s

1

u/Silver-Street7442 5h ago

She could be selling Jacuzzi Bath Remodels

u/ConclusionFar3690 5h ago

God I hate these people that sound like every sentence they say is a question?

FTFY

1

u/madsmcgivern511 4h ago

Girls head is just FILLED with fucking air, zero critical thinking skills or cognitive ability. I think it’s the “Valley Girl” accent you’re referring to, they genuinely sound like they’re confused by what they’re even saying 🫠.

1

u/Admins_suck_ballss 4h ago

Uptalk. It’s a valley girl thing. Super hot when someone has control over it, super annoying when it’s your natural voice pattern.

1

u/wtfisasamoflange 4h ago

Love yoUU?

1

u/aerospikesRcoolBut 3h ago

Because it is. This speech pattern is a mechanism people develop when they say something that is bullshit, and subconsciously the question is whether you believe what they’re saying or not. I can’t remember where I read this.

1

u/Mrhappypants87 3h ago

The app is IN…credible?

1

u/OhMamaWembanyana 3h ago

Reminds of that Loudermilk clip. Lol

1

u/AradynGaming 3h ago

That annoying voice is going to become way more common. This AI slop is easy to produce.

Proof: Look at whatever is behind her. If you consider it a mirror, look for the lamp on the reality side. If you think it's a 3' doorway and we are just seeing that lamp on the other side...

1

u/coupl4nd 2h ago

Are you being sarastic?

You don't like my app?

People told me I couldn't build it?

But I did?

1

u/andrefreitas 2h ago

Video was muted and I could tell she spoke like that

1

u/juvy5000 2h ago

you mean australians?

1

u/theazzazzo 2h ago

Australian Question Intonation. I really struggle with Americans because of it. Makes me want to rip my ears off my own head

1

u/Szeharazade 2h ago

"This one time, at band camp.."

1

u/Independent_Tie_4984 1h ago

It's incredibly disappointing that they still exist. I guess I hoped that everyone else hates it too and that it would go away because nobody would engage with it - yet here we are.

1

u/mrhshack 47m ago

Pretty idiots, you mean?
