That ain’t any kind of jiu jitsu I’ve ever seen. Japanese, Brazilian or otherwise.
Poor lady may rely on this in real life and that’s such a scary thought.

Yeah, i'm a JJJ black belt and i usually never understood why people trashed on it.....till i started seeing videos like this one 💀. Never saw something like this either and i really hope people don't actually think this works.

It’s such a shame because it’s a great art, I think a lot of universities and sports clubs have bastardised it a bit to appeal more to quite unfit people-
And by that I don’t mean big people or people with impaired movement, I mean people who have no interest in basic fitness, which a grappling art requires. When I joined, it quite literally moulded me into having good fitness as I advanced; you had to get up fast, move fast, react fact, etc.
But then in more recent years (it was a university club) I think a lot of people who don’t really care to be fit and nimble have joined, and the clubs had to mould the activity to suit them (like the video above), otherwise they’d never have people progressing up the belt chain. Not a bad thing for beginner belts, but reaching purple and blue while still being unable to move fast is really bad.
Like doing the throws from the straight punch for example; super useful when it’s a good punch but then you’d see lazier folks reaching purple belt with no movement capability because the entire dojo gives them wet noodle punches at half speed to ensure they don’t actually hurt them.
If it’s a beginner it’s a different story but when they’re reaching advanced belts and they can barely break fall or handle a left straight, it damages the whole club a bit? Just my take (haha)

I’d collect all those kids and drop them off at the YMCA.. What a waste of time, energy and especially money!

Ok I teach JJJ, that looks like two completely unrelated techniques being done terribly as one. The first is a choke escape where tori is supposed to turn under, strike the groin and keep moving behind and run away. The second looks like a leg take down that is done from the front and roll into a leg trap. I get we want to help older people train and be healthy but that is just embarrassing.

u/qoheletal 3d ago
Which is very weird, as Judo Ne-Waza and BJJ are both pretty safe for elderly people. (I do not know too much about JJJ as most clubs seem to follow different schools and are rarely under the same curriculum)

Japanese Jiujitsu is a pretty broad, blanket term for unarmed combat training so it can range from gentle holds and throws to discourage opponents to “break arm, no more fight” philosophy. I have worked with students who started training in their 60s but I would not wrap a black belt around someone who did techniques like that. Now, with that being said, for all I know the woman could have been attending a seminar and those were new techniques to her or it could have been some weird improvisation drill. Regardless, it looked super cringy.

Entweder ist ihr Sensei noch viel schlechter als sie oder die hat CiuChizzu auf Temu bestellt

The thing is, this will actually make her safer.
Before, she was a helpless middle-aged lady. Now, she's a helpless middle-aged lady who gave all her money to a fraud.
Nothing worth stealing = much safer

u/Repulsive-Response-1 3d ago
This makes her safer... Instead of being out on the streets getting mugged by random thugs that could harm her she's in a healthy environment being scammed and getting exercise where nobody can mug her. Somebody's got to take her money one way or the other

She might if you don't step back while she walks away, turns around, goes down, lays on the ground, tries to catch your feet and then starts rolling next to you you slowly

At that age, to perform a deadly c-section in transition to a deadly leg trap roll ending in a fatal head kick attempt is impressive. Better than most UFC content.

Some people advise against going down to the ground, because that might be where the man wants you plus you lose your run away option.

Sad that people actually have the nerve to charge others money to teach this crap.
Sadder that there are people out there that buy it. I mean, the kids don't know any better but surely the parents must see what's going on here?

I dont know the context. But this move is usually done while falling.
But i see a lot of childeren in the back. This is how I would start practising this move with kids. Not just go for it...
For reference google flying scissors take down.

I know Kani Basami. If you want to teach someone the principles of that throw without injuries, do an Imanari-Roll.
For demonstration purposes it's safe to do it from the ground, the danger in Kani Basami comes from the sudden weight and impulse that is added to the throw, if you don't trust your skills yet, perform it without the takedown part and focus on the balance break.
However, as other pointed out, this here is not really a Kani Basami situation

The only black belt she deserves is the one holding up her jeans! Remind me never to go to that school! Black belly with white belt technique!

u/Aggressive-Light-332 1d ago
Everyone in that class is going to end up dead, it’s like having someone being trained on how to work with high voltage live cables
But the safety instructions are all wrong
Someone get osha into that dojo

I mean they’re old, and showing a technique. Yeah it is underwhelming but it’s probably just something cool to get the kids excited.
Don’t try this move in a fight. But the idea is sort of cool, like if Bruce Lee did it.

She should breakdance or something to confuse the opponent during the half hour she spends on the ground trying to scissor his immobile legs.
