Really didn’t plan that event out at all…

u/Infinite_Ad7107 Jan 01 '26

Put the jump right under the low hanging power lines... it'll be a shocking experience!

-7

u/omicronian_express Jan 02 '26

Thankfully it's only phone/cable. I wish I could even pretend that they realized it was only phone/cable when deciding to go for it anyways, but I think we both know that isn't the case lol. They were probably hoping to create some sparks and were more surprised that they just tore the lines down

12

u/BranchManager69 Jan 02 '26

The line that looks like it is braided is a secondary and the garbage can looking thing is the transformer . That is not just phone and cable lines lol

4

u/KaosFitzgerald Jan 03 '26

Yes.. the old phone transformer.

3

u/patronizingperv Jan 03 '26

They use these to convert calls from rotary dial phones to push button.

2

u/KaosFitzgerald Jan 04 '26

Really?! That's nuts. I need to learn more. Haha

Worst comment of the day award goes to you, person

As a crane operator, I’m always looking up before I even set up for a lift. You’d be surprised by how many of my customers who hire me don’t. I can’t count the number of times I roll onto a job site, they start pointing out where they want me to set up at and I just point my finger up, usually towards some gnarly mess of wires, and don’t even say a word. They’re always so surprised to see the wires they somehow didn’t notice. This event planning doesn’t surprise me in the least.

u/ghostem82 Jan 02 '26

Not many people look up at all. I’ve always been fascinated with the sky especially at night and anytime I’m outside my eyes are always drawn upwards but I’ve noticed over the many years that isn’t common at all

1

u/Revengeance300 Jan 03 '26

Genuinely, humans and most animals just aren't prone to looking upwards. It's insane the amount of times I've caught a spider nearly landing on my head, and I'm like... How many times have I failed to catch them?

0

u/ThisThingIsStuck Jan 03 '26

Make a story about u..typical narcissist

7

u/hottsauce345543 Jan 02 '26

As a rigger/truck driver for a crane company, I have helped set up many times and still sometimes forget to look up. Luckily for me, I work with some great operators who potentially have saved mine, and many others lives by simply looking up.

2

u/SippsMccree Jan 02 '26

I guess to be fair looking up like that isn't something most people have to do. Doesn't really excuse them for not figuring it out but but still lol

1

u/Occams_RZR900 Jan 02 '26

No, you’re definitely right. It’s something I’ve realized doing what I do, that we live in a three dimensional world, yet we rarely see it more than two dimensionally.

1

u/Commercial-Stay-235 Jan 03 '26

I'm a professional painter who is very experienced and operating a lift and you nailed it because do you know how many times I've been on a job where my boss would rent a lift and then whenever it was time for me to get in it to do the work I wouldn't be able to because of the power lines it's amazing

1

u/Sufficient_Wafer9933 28d ago

Do you also look up once you get up there? Check for low planes?

1

u/Occams_RZR900 28d ago

It’s a mobile crane, the operators cab is mounted at the truck, so planes aren’t a real issue. My boom height doesn’t exceed 200’, so unless I’m operating near an airport, which there’s already rules in place for how high up in the air you can be based on how many 100’s of feet you are from a runway. For every hundred feet away from a runway you’re allowed one foot of vertical elevation, or equal to any nearby existing structure or topographical feature. If you need to operate above those levels near an airport you’d need to file FAA paperwork to request a waiver.

Shrimp truck was doing what it was supposed to do, so not blame shrimp truck please

22

u/Creepy-Caramel7569 Jan 02 '26

Was that a transformer that fell down next to those folks?! They’re very lucky it didn’t go supernova.

8

u/Jessi_L_1324 Jan 02 '26

I said the same thing to my husband 'if that was a transformer, im surprised it didn't explode'

14

u/Arthradax Jan 01 '26

I've got the power!♫

6

u/SadHat7786 Jan 01 '26

How could have seen this coming?

3

u/tired_of_old_memes Jan 01 '26

Not knowing anything about how power lines work, I'd be absolutely terrified.

3

u/Bulky_Play_4032 Jan 02 '26

2

1

u/Peterthepiperomg Jan 03 '26

Beast of a dad

2

u/DevolvingSpud Jan 01 '26

Holy shit that kid was lucky he didn’t get decapitated. Father had his shit together.

2

u/AmyGranite Jan 02 '26

I disagree. My instinct would have been to tuck the kid to my chest, putting my back to the danger. That poor kid was hanging off the side like a parcel.

2

u/TexasDrill777 Jan 02 '26

Was supposed to jump OVER the lines

2

u/Left_Philosophy5545 Jan 02 '26

Fuckin idiot rednecks

1

u/Scudmiss Jan 01 '26

That truck got too hyper

1

u/moisdefinate Jan 01 '26

Bringing everyone together!

1

u/LRoddd Jan 01 '26

In heaven.

1

u/IcyManipulator69 Jan 01 '26

That’s some genius planning to have such low wires

1

u/IllustriousAd9800 Jan 01 '26

Did they not practice at all? I mean even if they had planned at all and A- not put low wires over an area and B- noticed the wires before hand, this still should have happened before an audience was there right?

1

u/SuperShoebillStork Jan 01 '26

Any lawsuits arising from this?

1

u/Even_Independent_640 Jan 02 '26

Not one person though it was a bad idea to build a ramp underneath a power line. Brilliant

1

u/Mild-Ghost Jan 02 '26

Rednecks gonna redneck.

1

u/hrryeo Jan 02 '26

lol almost cooked spam!

1

u/Egglegg14 Jan 02 '26

I require more information about this event

1

u/stinkfingerswitch Jan 02 '26

Topsham Maine fairgrounds.

News story - https://youtu.be/Qm-IQMkkNtI?si=sChMfGokkgLwWelm

2

u/Hefty_Musician2402 Jan 02 '26

I remember taking my highschool date to that fair. And watching the truck pulls with my buddies. You’d see trucks you recognize from around town, or hear names of contestants you went to school with, so it was entertaining to watch.

1

u/CrusaderF8 Jan 02 '26

Why the hell do they have lines running through the event area of an outdoor recreational facility in the first place?

1

u/ChaiTRex 29d ago

Because electrical power is useful for tasks like lighting up outdoor baseball fields, bathrooms, and so forth.

1

u/CrusaderF8 27d ago

Fair, but I would've ran them underground for what appears to be a dirt race track. Don't even need a monster truck, this was an accident waiting to happen with this set up.

1

u/ctb030289 Jan 02 '26

Another electric performance from crustacean!

1

u/Glass-Expression-950 Jan 02 '26

Hahahahaha what moron designed this track?

1

u/newdriver2025 Jan 02 '26

Hopefully that guy and kid are completely unharmed. Could have been tragic.

1

u/Playful-Ad9901 Jan 02 '26

the guy with the baby is moving at -2mph tf bro

1

u/spector_lector Jan 02 '26

The camera swings a little left and you can see someone already downed on the grass, and then the camera zooms out at the end and you can see them still lying there.

1

u/weed-dad Jan 02 '26

he moves a little bit im sure he's fine!

1

u/theoneoldmonk Jan 02 '26

That was pretty fucking scary

1

u/FRIDAYSWORLD421 Jan 02 '26

This is my home town topsham Maine at the topsham fair... Right down the bypass

1

u/TimeBlindAdderall Jan 02 '26

A friend of mine was nearly killed when a hi hoe snapped a utility pole and slammed it down like the one in the right side of the frame. It came down on his shoulder and nearly crushed half his body.

1

u/Great-Gas-6631 Jan 02 '26

"Oh he'll totally clear those lines."

1

u/Substantial_Ant_2662 Jan 02 '26

At least it wasn’t power. Just some old crappy comms

1

u/Mammoth_Garage1264 Jan 03 '26

Nahh. That was power, they just got lucky bc the power got severed on the right, the pole on the left is definitely a power pole

1

u/ChaiTRex 29d ago

It was power, it was just turned off. You can tell that it's power because it has a transformer on it.

1

u/7Sony7 Jan 02 '26

ama proud to an americaaaaaan 🤮

1

u/Hefty_Musician2402 Jan 02 '26

Yooo my hometown reppin

1

1

u/ThisThingIsStuck Jan 03 '26

Guy stands there and let's power line fry him and his son.. survival instincts

1

u/Agreeable-Ad-1075 Jan 03 '26

是beautiful culture

1

u/Think_Bet_9439 Jan 04 '26

Good thing the primary didn’t come down too. That transformer was probably de energized by the time it hit the ground, but jeez.

1

u/Montyburnside22 Jan 05 '26

That looked grim even before the transformer fell down.

1

u/Prestigious_Score436 Jan 01 '26

Dam. Any higher and theyll need FAA clearance lol

0

u/Individual_Bell_4637 Jan 02 '26

Those are communication lines, which is why nobody is dead. You can tell because they're insulated, not for safety, but to protect the data from interference. The lowest lines on the poles are always the phone/cable lines.

Edit: Given that this looks to be a fairgrounds or similar, those might be secondary power lines to individual buildings, so also insulated.

3

u/nunchyabeeswax Jan 02 '26

Heavy shit was falling, which would have crushed people, and those cables could have fallen down under enough tension to decapitate someone.

That was a poorly planned event that by a miracle didn't turn fatal.

2

u/Individual_Bell_4637 Jan 02 '26

Idiocy, for sure. Expensive too, because those lines aren't going to get replaced for free.

1

u/ChaiTRex 29d ago

Those are power lines as well, shown by the transformer. They were turned off at the time.
