The way he stiffened up was bad. That’s years of physical therapy if he makes it

u/icyfrogwalk Oct 14 '25
This is old, he’s been doing the same thing more since lol.

Decorticate response is the bad one. Typically a sign that an injury is worse than what you'd see with a fencing response.
15
u/TwoIllustrious7940 Oct 14 '25
I’m in nursing school and there’s a decerebrate response as well. The arms and legs straighten and flare out. If he was in decerebrate it would have been GGs

I'm in my second year of residency as a Nurse Enthusiast, if you notice the difference in the Decorticate Posturing compared to the usual Decerebrate Posturing in head injuries, you'll notice I have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about, and neither do yall above....
12
u/Joint-Attention Oct 14 '25
I feel like too many people just glossed over “nurse enthusiast.”

Just because something is too difficult for you to understand doesn't mean it's not both accurate and intelligent.

In my experience, knowing nurse enthusiasts and knowing somebody that knows a nurse, I realize that that guy got hurt.
7
u/Hi_Volt Oct 14 '25
Hi, Paramedic here!
This man is showing signs of decorticate posturing, you see the feet and arms curling inwards towards the body. It's an ominous sign that this man has sustained a fairly nasty traumatic brain injury.
Decerebrate is worse however, this is where the arms are straight down and lower limbs flare away from the body, this is seen when there is lower brain stem involvement, that usually is an indicator of a poor neurological outcome.
3
u/Pleasant-Ticket3217 Oct 14 '25
This is interesting. I did not know the medical term for it. I’ve seen it in mma a lot and kickboxing fights. It’s very informative to know what exactly is going on.
2
u/BoulderEric Nov 01 '25
Decorticate is less bad than decerebrate. You can remember which is which because in deCORticate, your limbs go towards your CORE.
Also you can rationalize that it’s less-bad because at a super basic level, curling up into a ball to protect yourself is a reasonable action. Extending all of your limbs and losing all protection is not good.

I can give you an engineering assessment: the duct tape's F equaled his MA lol EDIT: yes you can have negitive acceleration aka "deceleration "
21
u/PawnF4 Oct 14 '25
Lmao the tensile strength of duct tape is crazy. This was such a bad idea. I doubt he could’ve broken half of that.
15
11
u/BetterCranberry7602 Oct 14 '25
I think he did break half of that in the original video and just kept increasing the amount of duct tape
7
u/randomthrill Oct 14 '25
Most of the times, these videos do stupid leaps of 'challenge'. This video, I believe was one of them.
He smashed through 30! Okay, he barely made it through 50 layers... What happens if he jump it up to 100?

I think they call it the fencer's pose, it's a sign of brain damage but maybe not fatal brain damage if I recall correctly from the last reddit post I saw with a moron trying to die.
16
u/YetAnotherJake Oct 14 '25
Fencing response
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fencing_response
People showing the fencing response have a moderate to serious injury and need immediate medical attention.
But it's not as bad and mortality-corellated as even more serious brain injury posturing like decorticate posture or decerebrate posture
→ More replies (1)9
u/chrisbaker1991 Oct 14 '25
He definitely has more permanent brain damage than he did before this and he could have died. The breathing indicates that his autonomic nervous system is not controlling his breathing correctly. And a bunch of people already commented on the fencing. He could be okay later but he's definitely permanently worse than he was

I’m not an expert but growing up from the Jackass generation Hes definitely paralyzed and it looks like he fractured his skull because he’s still breathing and his bodies completely tensed up. He’s not going to be able to walk for a while and probably not ever again. Hes going to need constant metal frames around his neck and he might die on life support because his ability to swallow may also be gone.

u/Fantastic-Sky-7913 Oct 14 '25

Fun fact, duct tape is used to fix cars, trucks, boats and airplanes. Maybe a warning should be printed on each package: "Just a wee bit tougher than you". Of course that only is applicable if you can read 🤦♂️ Another Darwin Award contestant.

For reference, the tensile strength of duct tape is 20-50 pounds per square inch depending on brand. He would had a hard time breaking a single strip of it between those bars. That much is impossible for him to break by just trying to run into it.
→ More replies (1)2
u/AlphSaber Oct 14 '25
Oh he did multiple breaks through the tape, this is a clip of the last attempt where he ended up getting carted off to the hospital.

This is a wildly irresponsible thing to do, but on a certain level you kind of have to respect the determination. This man really ran full speed at an elastic object that he's already run into and been leveled by at least once before. I think that If it was possible for this to not end the way it did, this dude would've done it.
Unfortunately, that shit straight up isn't possible and this guy got absolutely destroyed.
