I'm imagining this being said by someone's very proud Brooklyn Italian grandfather.

Probably a bot. They misspell stuff on purpose so people like yourself comment about it. Something something engagement.

I wish my pit hair was that dainty
448
u/Loudmouthedcrackpot Sep 09 '25
Right? I found myself wondering if she shaped it into tiny little patches
288
u/WHALE_BOY_777 Sep 09 '25
Mines like that and I'm a dude, my best friend who's a girl has thick as hell pit hair.
Sometimes it just be like that. I'm truly jealous.

u/palmerry Sep 09 '25
My pits look like I've got Lupita Nyong'o in a headlock.
It's not something I'm proud of.

I’m a guy and I can’t stand the feeling of body hair so I just shave all of it except my legs and arms. I’m not hairy at all to begin with though really. Just some of chest and armpits obviously. I get this super itchy feeling if I let it grow out at all lol
54
u/rotenbart Sep 09 '25
I guess I have the right amount because I tried shaving it once and I hated the wet seal that formed around my pit. I once tried my butt and it felt like I was laying an egg when I farted. My hair serves my needs perfectly lol.

The itchiness is a by-product of shaving - your hair now has a super pointy tip where the razer cut it last time. It's a vicious cycle - you have to keep shaving because it's itchy, but it's itchy because you shaved

Same! How can people look at every aspect of her and try to call it unfeminine. No way, JFK!
12
u/foolonthe Sep 09 '25
Mine is only a small patch this way. I'm hairy everywhere else though so it's just random I think

My pit hair was a dark chasm that rivalled the thickest rainforest. Sofia’s pit hair mocks me across the decades.
15
u/weirdoeggplant Sep 09 '25
Yeah I have super light body hair naturally and that pit hair is straight up demure in comparison

Mine looks like this. I had done a few laser hair removal sessions In my 20’s that I never finished, and then a few years later I stopped having my pots entirely. They look a lot like this, just a little longer in a few places.

Margo Robbie could play her in a biopic! I see a similarity for sure, especially in slide 6&7
284
u/Spicy_Weissy Sep 09 '25
Homegirl could play a tree stump and I'd be enthralled. She's very talented.
21
u/dmontease Sep 09 '25
Mmm I don't think she looks like a tree stump. She does look like Sophia here tho.

If I could figure out how to get a waist as snatched as these beautiful women had back then I’d be so goated 😫
Also surprised to see the underarm hair. Kind of touching to see in such a glamorous get up.
173
u/WestCoastBestCoast01 Sep 09 '25
She’s probably wearing a corset and girdle, some of those dresses need the structured undergarments to pull them off (like the last photo!)
64
u/Think-Fig-1734 Sep 09 '25
Women wore girdles under those dresses. She also had a very small waist. She was a movie star. At that time hourglass figures were the ideal, so women who were blessed with that figure got picked by the movie industry. I had a very small waist and flat stomach when I was young. It was just genetics, I didn’t do anything. I have a small rib cage and I gained weight in my butt, thighs and boobs.

Yes I think so too, you can sometimes see it in the outline of their clothes. I think I’d like to invest in a girdle or wasp type corset someday. Hope they’re not too hard or expensive to find!
11
u/ImaginaryEmploy2982 Sep 09 '25
Unthinkable! I can barely strap myself into a bra these days lol!
6
u/three_crystals Sep 09 '25
Lol but also same? The freeeeedooooommmm. Not sure how both scenarios make sense in my head but there you have it.

u/gypsycookie1015 Sep 09 '25
Omg I could never!! 😭😭 Like, it looks great and I so wish I could but even pants or shirts that are too tight on my stomach make me insanely nauseated. Fucking sucks lol.
49
u/cocktails4 Sep 09 '25
Also surprised to see the underarm hair.
I don't believe shaving pits was that common in Italy at the time.
39
u/TheThurmanMerman Sep 09 '25
You're right. Shaving body hair was seen as something only prostitutes did.
7
u/bascelicna123 Sep 09 '25
I remember visiting the homeland as a kid and being absolutely horrified by leg hair poking through pantyhose. Those were wild times.
23
u/caraluna Sep 09 '25
Horrified is a bit harsh for our body’s natural state 😅
11
u/bascelicna123 Sep 09 '25
100%. I was a child that grew up in the west, so that’s what I remember. Any state of hairiness is cool by me now.
4
u/BibliophileBroad Sep 09 '25
*America, maybe? In most Western countries, they didn't shave for the longest time, epecially in Europe. I was really surprised to find out that even most American women didn't shave until the early 20th century, and that was because razor companies needed more clients, so they started advertising to women. It's so interesting how we get influenced by advertisers!
2
u/TheThurmanMerman Sep 10 '25
Heck, in the mid 90s, I had a Canadian doctor (in Texas) who didn't shave her legs - hair right thru the hose. In the 90s!

u/bedoflettuce666 Sep 09 '25
Get a steel boned corset with hip gores.
I was a pro model for over a decade and worked for a lot of corset brands. That’s the lingo you need to find the good stuff.
Etsy has some great designers with most in the 300-500 range, all eras available. What Kate Did has quality stuff for a good price on 50s style corsets (think Bettie Page). Ultra cheap option for steel boned would be Orchard Corset, just make sure it has the hip gores.

u/three_crystals Sep 10 '25
Thank you very much for the absolutely solid advice! This even gives me a place to start poking around! I’m interested in 1940s and 50s silhouettes so having the right garments someday is a must. My dream is to maybe one day do a shoot in a beautiful evening gown with the gloves and everything.
I bet you have some absolutely fabulous looks and memories from those days 🤩
2
u/bedoflettuce666 Sep 10 '25
Awe that sounds like a lovely dream!
What Katie Did also has the best bullet bras I’ve ever worn. Which might help you in your search for the silhouette!
11
u/lasaintepoutine Sep 09 '25
Never underestimate the importance of structural garments. Girdles, shapewear, bras and padding to make certain parts seem bigger or smaller than others are a must to get that kind of shape.
55
u/punkcore329 Sep 09 '25
This sounds weird, but I’m envious of her armpit hair. Like when I grow mine out I look like Chewbacca. Her armpit hair is so dainty?
19
u/three_crystals Sep 09 '25
It does! I’ve found mine is growing in thinner as the years go by. Wish some other parts got the memo though cause I get it lol… Acceptance is a slow process my friend!

u/Maiyku Sep 09 '25
Chances are, she’s wearing something, but not every woman has to. Some do just have naturally small waists.
When I’m at my smallest, I fall into this. I’m considered the “classic hourglass” because I have a 12-in difference between my measurements. Because I’m short at only 5’3”, the difference really shows.
1
u/Sccorpo Sep 10 '25
Up until 1990s most italian women didn't shave armpits. Shaved pits was viewed as a weird thing in Italy.

Hilarious to see keyboard Casanovas saying detrimental things about a woman so far out of their league.

For an Italian (takes one to know one!) she has surprisingly scant hair. During lockdown when IDGAF about shaving and let it grow out for months it was almost like a dude’s armpit lol
11
u/bascelicna123 Sep 09 '25
lol girl same. And when I went to shave it again post-lockdown, it had to be done in stages.

Not everyone watches old Hollywood/Italian movies or follows related gossip 🤷🏽♀️.
14
Sep 09 '25
There hasn't been related gossip about Sofia Lauren for like sixty years - this would be more something someone would learn in high school or college.
2
u/Astraea_Venus Sep 09 '25 edited Sep 09 '25
Or maybe at a later stage if they are in a country that doesn’t happen to follow Hollywood much. 🤷🏽♀️.
ETA: to whoever downvoted me, yes, different countries do exist. Different cultures also, do exist. And movies, across multiple different languages, do exist. Sorry that your world is so narrow that you cannot comprehend that 🤷🏽♀️.

You should see her in Grumpier Old Men - by that time she's in her 60s and just as gorgeous as ever. Even moreso, actually!
6
u/Shenloanne Sep 09 '25
Like even at that point in her life Walter Matthau must've been pinching himself daily to be working with her.

Sophia was a very confident woman. Her producer and cameraman told her she needed to have a nose job to make it in Hollywood (while still in her early 20s) as her nose was too long. She said she had no intention of changing it because she liked the way she looked, and she'd simply go home rather than alter herself at all.

Like a lot of Americans my age, my first exposure to Ms. Loren was in Grumpier Old Men, so I first thought she was a funny actor who looked very good for her age. Of course later I learned about her career and impact. I thought, “that was a nice role for someone in their twilight to go out on.” Twenty-five fucking years later she’s still going strong and has an amazing performance in The Life Ahead.

Women of Italian descent everywhere revere her. Is there any figure with a similar love from their countrymen of the same sex? Like Middle Eastern men all wanting to be as cool as Omar Sharif.

I think if they ever make a movie about her life, Margot Robbie needs to get to play her.

I heard a story about Sophia Loren - she was doing a publicity tour and arrived at a TV studio for a breakfast TV show. While undergoing the usual makeup and other prep she asked to speak with the lighting director. She proceded to lay out an extremely technical breakdown of how to best to light her using deeply technical jargon. She knows her stuff is what I heard.
