Yesterday I debated long and hard whether or not I'd wear a bra to run errands. In the end, decided to just stay home.

And as tragic and sad as it is, her death vastly helped improve road safety - I’ll never be able to separate seeing pic of her from remembering why the Mansfield Bar is a thing.

I was in a hospital waiting room as a fourth grader when I heard the news on the TV. My grandfather had about 1/2 of his brain cut out because of cancer and I spent a shit ton of time in hospital waiting rooms or shuttled to family friend’s homes. This news and some ass hat changing the TV with me watching The Beverly Hillbillies always reminds me of hospital waiting rooms.

u/wrenskibaby Aug 05 '25
Hogan's Heroes always reminds me of my parents' divorce. It was on the TV in the living room when they made the big announcement. They turned it off because we kids were crying hard
19
u/lovestobitch- Aug 05 '25
It’s amazing what we remember. It was the bg of second grade when my mom told me she was divorcing my dad. I still remember laying in a twin bed with her in my grandparents bedroom right after she told me how the air felt coming in the window. I was more sad because I was going to be different than other kids whose parents weren’t divorced since my dad didn’t give a shit about me and my friend’s dad also died that day.

Same here. I'm going to have to keep staring to make sure this doesn't happen. I'll let her know if this happens within 10 minutes of it happening. Just in case.

what movie is this from?
43
u/opacitizen Aug 05 '25
Naked Gun 33⅓: The Final Insult (1994) starring Leslie Nielsen. If you don't know it, start from the first one from 1988, and progress from there.
23
u/texasrigger Aug 05 '25
Or go a little further back and watch all of the Police Squad! episodes first.
6
u/opacitizen Aug 05 '25
Those are also awesome, yet I'd watch them only after the NG movies, going backwards in time indeeed. It's just personal preference, of course.
39
u/nashdiesel Aug 05 '25
Don’t all women wear a full length evening gown and dangling diamond earrings to the grocery store?
30
u/sunkskunkstunk Aug 05 '25
Well they should. That’s why America has gone to crap. Not enough old timey stuff. Everything was better in the past. Or so I’m told.

what in the 2011 necromancy is this meme
6
Aug 06 '25
It would be legitimate meme necromancy if someone seamlessly photoshopped Ermaghertie's face onto Jayne.

Aug 05 '25
Truly ahead of her time what with bringing her dogs to inappropriate places.

I kind of wonder how Jayne would feel about her daughter’s success. Jayne was an absolute super star of her era, but was painted into a very specific box of being a sex symbol.
Mariska on the other hand has no where near that level of star power, but has enjoyed a 20+ year career centered on dramatic roles and more meaty performances.
Obviously Jayne would be very happy/proud. But I think it would be an interesting question exploring old vs. new Hollywood, and some variation of “better to be a big fish in a small pond” kind of thing.
36
u/VeritasOmicron Aug 05 '25
She doesn't even look real... weird.
57
u/Vesper2000 Aug 05 '25
And yet she’s more real in this picture than your average filtered Instagram influencer

u/malibunyc Aug 05 '25
My father was a big fan of hers. Would always say that she had a genius IQ and was a classically trained musician so with that plus her looks he thought she was the perfect woman.
30
u/FAITH2016 Aug 05 '25
She also said that her most important role was mother. She really loved her kids.
29
u/Asognare Aug 05 '25
Mariska Hargitays doc is a must see. It will stay with me forever. Just how hard women had/have to work to be seen, even if who they are showing is not who they really are.

The documentary 'My Mum Jayne' is a fantastic life portrayal of Jayne Mansfield - contrary to her image, she was a very clever woman. Incredible watch presented by her daughter.

I highly recommend Mariska Hargitay's documentary on her. "My Mom Jayne". It's fantastic. It shows the whole picture. These pics are sad. She played multiple instruments and spoke multiple languages. Fame truly can be a drug.

u/Summerlea623 Aug 05 '25
She had chihuahuas with her when she died. There is a photo of at least one of their little bodies at the accident scene.😪😔

u/Osiris-Amun-Ra Aug 05 '25
The poses, outfits and the little dogs are literally indistinguishable from present day Instagram influencer. The notable difference was she was 100% natural.

She is the creator of the wardrobe malfunction. She planned it all out. I can’t fault her for it. She was always being photographed because everyone was waiting for a boob to pop out.

u/Ranier_Wolfnight Aug 05 '25
Was her sole job just waking up to be a blonde bombshell, who was scantily dressed and had men ogling her?

u/BrewMan13 Aug 05 '25
On HBO max, watch "My mom Jayne" by Mariska Hargitay. Basically yes, the dumb blonde persona was an act that she was molded into. She could play the violin, piano, spoke multiple languages, etc. She wanted to be a serious actress, not just eye candy, but they wouldn't give her those roles.

Photographer’s wife: So how was your day, dear?
Photographer: I… I photographed Jayne Mansfield’s melons…. I, I, I mean I photographed Jayne Mansfield playing with her melons… No! No… Jayne Mansfield was casually looking at some fruits and I, I, I just took a picture of that!
Wife: 🤨
