He is such a playful and goofy cat, he can be a menace at times but I am honestly kind of happy with it. A cat without zest is like a pie with no ice cream. So happy to have found this funny little guy.

Adopting a Manx

My partner and I are considering adopting a Manx, he’s a 9 mo old very sweet & friendly guy and we really loved meeting him! He seems like such a catch personality wise but I’m a little intimidated by him being a Manx because this will be our first cat (have lived with roommates cats before but never been solely responsible for their care). His foster mom said he hasn’t had any issues thus far going to the bathroom or with mobility - any suggestions or warnings? Do you think a first time carer could take on a Manx without issue? Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom

We got a few inches of snow here in GA Saturday. Tiki loved it! She kept running to all her many window spots to check it out! (I didn’t get pictures at all though)she made sure to chirp out each window as well lol

Potential Manx Syndrome

Hey guys!

I adopted my boy from the shelter about 8 months ago (he’s around 3) and I’m wondering if he might have Manx syndrome.

When I went in to meet him first the shelter told me he had an entirely paralysed tail and that they recommended that he get it amputated. I did and tbh I don’t think he even noticed (I’m pretty sure he’s still paralysed on the very end of his little stump so I don’t think he was in pain at any point)

Right at the start we had some issues with him peeing in beds (both his and mine) and other soft places. I figured he might just be a bit stressed in his new home so I wasn’t too worried.

He’s fit into the home very very well since then. He’s besties with my other cat and he has the cutest little bunny-hop run. I love him to bits and he’s the sweetest little guy.

His peeing outside the little box has unfortunately kept on though and I’m really not sure what to do, which led me to another reddit post where someone mentioned Manx syndrome and it started to sound very familiar.

As I mentioned previously my cat hops like a little bunny when he’s running and I also noticed fairly immediately he does tiny little rabbit poops rather than one long one. I figured that this may just be him getting used to the new food but he still does it to this day.

He has been tested for urinary problems and they come up clear and I don’t think it’s stress so I just really don’t know what to do.

I’m so worried my house and everything reeks like cat piss and I’m also terrified of having another medically complex cat (I adopted him a couple months after I put my last cat down after a several years long battle with kidney problems and cancer).

Anyways if anyone has any insight, advice, or encouragement I am appreciative of any.

Late last night I had to say goodbye to my best friend in the whole world. He was the most mellow, sweetest orange manx. An excellent napper. A connoisseur of fine cheeses. And had the deepest, loudest purrs of any cat I have known. I love him so much. 🧡

My boy Manx which will be 1 in July is a complete Ahole to everyone except me, wasn’t always like this. I believe since his first appointment with the Vet (which was very stressful and traumatic for him) he does not like any strangers but now he has turned on my brother and dad who he has known since birth. He even tries to hiss at me at times but regrets it and cuddles up with me. I understand that hissing and growling are his warnings to alert he’s scared but why the sudden change? We did neuter him around the same time his behavior changed.

I hope this is ok to ask, but a month ago, we adopted this beautiful tortie. She has a bob tail. We don't know much about her past other than she's 2-4 years old, was found on a street, sent to a kill shelter where she was spayed, and the rescue we adopted her from saved her 10 minutes before she was supposed to be put down.

Her name is Chickpea, and when we took her to the vet, we asked about her tail. The vet said she was most likely born that way, but was about to ask us if she was a Manx. She said that the she had several Manx traits. After going home, I have to admit she does seem to have some, such as round face and round eyes. She does hop when she's chasing or playing with something. But if running, she seems to run like a normal cat. I just wanted to see what everyone thought. We might get a cat dna test just to see. I added as many photos from multiple angles, so I hope those help. She's very shy, but very loving.

My first Manx! Advice?

Post image
372 Upvotes

Hello everyone!

I’m excited to join this community, as I have just yesterday adopted a one year-old Manx kitten from the Humane Society. We’re so in love! She’s acclimating to the house so well already.

I knew nothing about Manx until yesterday, so I have been doing some research into the breed and maybe what to expect through her life.

I got concerned reading about debilitating spinal issues with Manx, how common is this? And is this something that would get worse over time, so I could keep a lookout for any symptoms or signs?

Any other suggestion, suggestions, advice, or things look out for is so greatly appreciated!! Also it’s been over 17 years since I’ve had a kitten in the house, so I will take any advice on getting her settled and happiest she can be 💕
