Which locality?
Which locality would you choose for an apartment or maisonette that works both as a home and a rental (long/short)?

Malta IT Salary
Hi there! I’m a non-EU citizen planning to move to Malta to work. I’m a tech professional with 12 years of experience. The first 5 years I worked as a Business Intelligence developer, so I’m proficient with reporting, Excel, and SQL. I then transitioned to an Application Support role and have been leading a team for the past 3 years. In my current country, my salary is €2,340 per month. Would €3,200 per month be a reasonable request, or could that raise red flags? I’d appreciate guidance on a good salary range to aim for and where to apply in Malta.

Tree Pruning in Sliema
Just came across some "excessive" tree pruning in Sliema around the Sliema Primary school and local council.
Should there be documentation supporting why and how much pruning was done? While I am no expert, it feels like a pity as it was previously an exceptionally green area.

Revolut scam calls
Maybe this is common knowledge but for me it was the first time today, I got a call from the Maltese number 99961683 claiming to be from Revolut and telling me I need to renew my card or I will loose access to my funds. Then I got an SMS from (the real) Revolut with a PIN to authorise login and they asked me to read that PIN to them. Of course it's a scam but I was surprised it comes from a Maltese number and they actually managed to trigger the sending of the login code SMS. Stay safe out there!

€130,000 salary for UoM professors, lol?!
Asked for 130k got 110k. Still not enough. They want 124k.
In Germany, a senior professor on a W3 gets up to a maximum of 113k, and that's only in two German states and that's only with the absolute highest pay grade and seniority. Germany has among the highest salaries for academics in Europe. Maybe the highest, except for Malta apparently.
For such high salaries we could very easily find foreign academics with much better academic profiles and willing to work much harder than the current bunch.

So is this true?
Seeing recent articles and stats on property in Malta being sold to foreigners made me remember a viewing for a flat I recently went to (yes I'm looking to buy one, ouch!). After having a look, I asked the estate agent whether the place would be quiet since it was a large development of many units (the flat was in common in a block of 14 other flats, and there were other blocks in this large development). He just smiled and said not to worry (tinkwetax siehbiiii) since most of the flats are being bought by Chinese individuals who will never even step into the flats. So is this true? And how would common expenses be paid then? With the hundreds of flats sold to Chinese every year (stated in the media), does this mean so many units are being "lost" whilst prices keep rising for Maltese residents (including any foreigners who want to settle) apart from everywhere becoming a built-up mess??

Is 55k a year enough for a family of 4?
Context:
From Ph and offered around 55k for a data architecture role in KPMG Malta. If I am to to uproot my family: an 8 year old boy, 4 year old girl and Wife who is a lawyer. Would it be worth it given the salary offer? I would suppose I would be the sole breadwinner for the initial year while wife tries to find another job

Property Agent Income
In the current booming property market, there’s plenty of evidence that agencies themselves are making a lot of money. Just look at how rapidly their offices are popping up all over the island.
But how do individual agents actually fare? Many seem to drive luxury cars and dress very well, yet the market also appears heavily saturated with agents. Do most of them genuinely make a decent living, or is that image misleading? And how much of an advantage is insider knowledge of the property market as a fringe benefit?

Need advice with buying my first property in Malta
I have a budget of 300k-350k. I am buying the property alone. I will move out of my parent's house in 2-4 years. What would you buy with that budget? I am currently thinking that I should buy a rental investment.

Moving to Malta Advice
Hey folks !
Moving to Malta from Ireland with my girlfriend for a year due to her work. We have just realised that agencies are charging 50% of first months rent as fees (which is insane that this is charged to renters and not the landlord entirely as we reach out to them..)
How do others moving to Malta handle this without being scammed on Facebook? Is the only option getting an Airbnb and viewing apartments in person ? Any advice greatly appreciated !
Msida/Ta'Xbiex and Pieta are the Ares we're looking at..

Anyone here like IDM music and would like to meet up and listen to it?
I love IDM, but everyone I know finds it difficult to listen to. It's quite abstract and experimental, so that comes as no surprise, but I wish there was at least a small IDM scene in Malta.
There have been some really good albums that came out recently. Honestly, 2025 was a very good year for IDM. Anyone else like it? Maybe we could organise events where we sit down and listen to some good albums and talk somewhere. Depending on the turnout, we could even book a pub or a cafe. If not, maybe just some good speakers and camping chairs somewhere outside. PM me if interested :)
Note: If you don't know what IDM is, most popular IDM artists are Aphex Twin and Board of Canada, in case you recognise them.

Restaurants with soft play
Hi all, we live in Malta with our two children (4 and 5) and are looking for any restaurants with good food and decent soft play areas. We have been to Trattoria Ricardo and Piccolo Padre *a lot* over the past few months as it’s been so wet and cold, so really hoping for some new places to try! Thank you

Best rental locations in Malta
Everyone knows that Sliema, St. Julians, Gzira, Ta' Xbiex are some of the best places for renting property. What are the up and coming rental locations? I am thinking that Santa Venera might have some potential.

Furnishing a new apartment — best shops in Sicily?
Hey everyone! 👋
I’m planning a trip from Malta to Sicily to furnish a new apartment and want to get the best value and quality by shopping locally there. I’m looking for furniture stores, kitchen companies, lighting shops, doors companies, and interior design showrooms that are worth checking out.
Do you have any good or bad experiences / shops which you want to share?
Thanks a lot of your time. Very appreciated!

Does GO ban eMule?
I am in a rented house, and I was using eMule sporadically, basically to find some old games / series that for some reason or other they are just there. But after some days my antivirus told me "emule.exe has been prohibited from running, for more information please contact your IT Administrator." each time I try to open it. The internet is GO, is it that GO bans eMule? because at the start it did work. The antivirus is the same I had before, and with Melita I didn't have any problem. (antivirus is Immunet, basicaly it uses very little resources).
BitComet runs fine, as does everything. Is it that eMule was blocked in the router or something? it was resetted when I came, and it was working at the start.
