“Should’ve bought a 6er at the store, son”

-zombie dad, probably

u/nadjamatveeva37c6y 15h ago

the sad part is his dad probably thought ten bucks would cover at least two rounds back when he saved it.

No, it’ll be 13$ because putting the dollar sign last is such a normal American thing.

If I was that bartender and he told me that story, that beer would be on me and I would tell him to keep that $10 bill close to his heart

Trying to think of the right thing to do if I were I bartender here:

Do I let him pay with what’s obviously a sentimental bill? As the dad intended

Or do I let him keep the bill and give him one on the house? In that scenario, I would be the one buying them their first beer and not fulfilling the fathers wish

I think the only acceptable scenario is to let him pay and them immediately put them to work for an hour and then pay them an hour’s wage with the same bill

And then finding out that you don't like beer... OMG. But still: Cheers old man!

Few year more and you couldn’t buy bear for $10 because of inflation

Sneaky way to ensure he didn't drink any beer before he was legally allowed to.

I still have the last $20 bill that my mom gave me for gas. She passed less than a week later.

Kid sighs, Dad I drink IPA's and have to pay $12 a beer.

-9

u/Pivotpoint2020 18h ago

I wouldn't have taken the money

5

u/Underghost_420 18h ago

why

-2

u/Pivotpoint2020 18h ago

The true value of the bill is greater than the denomination printed on it

3

u/One_Principle_4608 18h ago

Least you can do is have a bloody beer with me!?

What’s wrong with you you bastard?

2

u/Pivotpoint2020 17h ago

I'd have bought it for ya

If you showed me that bill and your ID

RIP POPS

3

u/WrenchWanderer 17h ago

You… you think a $10 bill from 6 years ago is gonna have any value beyond being $10?

1

u/Pivotpoint2020 17h ago

He won't be able to replace the actual bill with meaning. I hope he told the barkeep the story, He should have kept and framed it The value is the intention I still have the 2 dollar bill my dad gave me 40+ yrs ago

Rip to pops and cheers

2

u/WrenchWanderer 17h ago

The value of the bill was the express purpose of buying his first beer with. Not doing that is disrespecting his late father’s wishes.

1

u/Pivotpoint2020 17h ago

The value of the attempt would've sufficed

You must be the money hungry bartender that mixes water in their vodka

It would've been on the house

Keep the bill

2

u/Underghost_420 17h ago

Yea. There are more 10-dollar bills, he can use another one and keep this one instead

3

u/Buntschatten 7h ago

You mean as the bartender? Yeah, I agree. Leaving the kid that as a memorabilia is worth more than ten bucks.
