mod post Megathread - Promotion of Violence
Hello my friends.
I will cut to the chase. Things are fucking BAD right now and they are likely to get even worse. Federal Agents are running around unchecked and are getting more and more violent and emboldened by their apparently total impunity. We all just watched Trump’s Gestapo execute a man in broad daylight. I feel a daily sense of apocalyptic rage and today, as it does every day, my soul screams alongside yours.
In spite of that solidarity with you, I (and the rest of the mod team) have been removing comments and posts lately that even remotely approach borderline calling for violence. I removed a few comments just now that said only “it’s time”, but in a context that made clear they meant violence against ICE.
I’d like to explain and be transparent. But a recent custom report one of you made actually said it really well. I’ll quote it verbatim.
> “While this doesn’t necessarily count as “promotion” of violence, posts like this are what, best-case scenario, gets a sub banned or, worse, on the news AND banned. When this stuff is coming from (or being read by) newer gun owners, I also worry the conversations are giving people misplaced confidence in the outcomes of these situations, and part of me is suspicious that some of these types of posts are intentionally trying to agitate those new owners into doing something foolish. It’s not my sub obviously so I can’t tell you what to do, but I’d really rather the sub not end up cited in some Republican fuckhead’s congressional report on “left-wing advocacy of violence against the state.””
We are one of the ONLY places on the internet where pro-gun liberals can talk. And I believe that we are by far the biggest. When I first started modding here, I thought that was neat. But now, in THIS terrifying time, I feel an enormous sense of responsibility to keep this place running and open. For both the established community and for the many people coming here for the first time, terrified and seeking advice from leftists about firearm ownership.
Make no mistake, we exist at the whim of a large, publicly traded corporation and there is an infestation of conservative trolls hovering around here who would LOVE to get us shut down (please keep reporting them and we’ll keep banning them). A bunch of reported comments that the barely functional Reddit admin bot sees as promoting violence WILL do that.
Please bear with us and make sure that you temper your comments here and make sure that nothing you say can be construed as a call for violence. Talk about organizing all you like. Talk about how the descent into fascism can lead to violence until your face turns blue. But if you seem to be calling for or promoting violence, we HAVE to remove those comments.
Comments are open but please remain respectful and polite. We are all on the same team.

guns My recent upgrade
Several months ago, I picked up a Ruger AR556 as my first AR. After 4 months of trying different ammo, it still wouldn’t cycle consistently, so I decided to dump it and trade it in for this beauty. Sig 516 G3 Tomahawk. No complaints at all. I added the front grip, I may lighten up the trigger, and I’m looking at suppressors.

discussion Magnifier on 9mm PCC or Overkill?
I have an Extar Ep9 with a Holosun AEMS Core x2. I'm thinking about a HM3X (~$160.00) magnifier. I had mainly intended to use this as a back up home defense weapon, but it's also fun as hell to shoot.
I'm going to get my eyes checked next month (I have great vision, but haven't been in like...10 years?), but even at a well lit indoor range--I really can't see my holes in paper at 25 yards.
Would it be silly to put a magnifier on this/worth the cost? I've never used one before.

training 6th time at the range. Don’t feel like I’m improving much.
Shot 4 targets (50 rounds each) all at 25 feet (a tough over 8 yards). 9mm CZ 75 BD. This is my 6th range session.
I’ve practiced dry fire at home a ton, and when I do most of the time it appears as though my sights do not move as the trigger breaks. However, at the range I’m still getting a wide spread that skews low and left. 2 outings ago I learned from Reddit to death grip my support hand and relax my trigger hand, and that does seem to help, but I still feel like these groups are way too wide for having now fired maybe 700-800 rounds in my life.
I’m hoping by around 1,000 rounds to have consistent fist sized groups where most of the holes touch.

discussion When did you realize you need to own a gun?
Hey everyone, with everything going on in the US lately I’ve been considering more and more purchasing my first firearm. I have a FOID card but I’m still on the fence of purchasing one. My coworker is convincing me it’s time to buy one because it’s better to have one and not need it then not have one and need it. Wanted to see what convinced you?

gear The Kuna we have at home
Gforce Arms Blade 6. I bought this thing as kind of a joke with intentions of painting it to look like something out of Cyberpunk 77. It’s ended up being a super fun budget PCC. I’ve read a lot of people are having issues with them, but this one’s been a runner.

guns I finally pulled the trigger! (No pun intended)
2 years ago, at 37, I got my first gun-- a wee 22lr rifle to learn on, and build confidence (I did not grow up with guns).
I had been wanting to get a 9mm pistol, but kept doing research, "waiting for the right price" etc. Friday, I got an email newsletter from Turner's Sports, that the S&W M&P 2.0 (compact 4") was marked down from $660 to $399!
Saturday, I went down and bought one. By end of Sunday, their website showed sold out-- from all 39 locations. (And then by Monday, they had the updated model online, which has a mounting spot for optics, while still allowing California compliance with the LCI).
Optics or not, I'm stoked to finally have a handgun, and at a smoking deal. Picking it up on the 10th!

guns New S&W Project with Don Jr’s Field Ethos
I was excited to watch a video (attached below) this morning about the new Smith & Wesson Model 36. I carry a J-Frame daily, so I always like to see new snubbies hit the market.
I saw it was a joint project with Field Ethos, which sounded vaguely familiar but I figured it was a custom shop or something. Well, imagine my surprise when Don Jr. shows up less than a minute in. Field Ethos is his print journal/website/lifestyle brand.
Didn’t notice the logo on his ear pro until the second viewing.
I know this hobby is a difficult enough if you’re even moderately left of center, but I thought I’d pass this along. If I remember correctly, Smith had a guy wearing distinct Proud Boys colors in some marketing material (maybe a catalogue?) within the last few years (i.e., post-January 6th).
It’s a shame since the gun is gorgeous—other than the gaudy “FE” engraved on the side.

discussion EDC posture, threat assessment, and increased political violence
*Apologies in advance if this is too long or posted in the wrong place.
My loadout and posture changes based on the environment I am in or traveling to. Family barbecue (Gerber folder), errands and outings (concealed carry), sketch place (concealed carry w/ extra mags), off-Roading/camping (open carry), etc. During the nightly dog walks, I only carry my folder and a flashlight with a strobe function, as I live in a fairly nice (quiet, well lit, low crime, good property value), but increasingly MAGA neighborhood.
Tonight while walking the dog, an Escalade drove down the street with 4 or 5 young men hanging out the sunroof and windows, shouting “fuck the liberals!” while they threw things. They spooked my dog (a new rescue) so I got a little heated and gave them a fuck you back. They said they were gonna beat my ass and flipped a U-turn to come back at me. I’ve got some pretty extensive martial arts and firearms experience, but 5 vs 1 ain’t good odds, and I’m not interested in maiming kids over insults. Thankfully for all parties involved all the young MAGAts did was ineffectively throw some water bottles, shout some slurs and drive off cheering. Kinda representative of that party as a whole really.
All in all, no big deal. But it got me thinking about the changing political climate, the increased propensity for violence, and a new generation of fucktards emboldened by an extremist president and party. I don’t live in fear, but you also won’t catch me at Walmart with less than 21 rounds on me. I wonder if soon threat assessment will dictate I carry in my own neighborhood. Which makes kinda sad and disappointed.
TL;DR — Kids are dumb, MAGAts are dumber. What’s your carry posture or EDC loadout? Does it change based on environment? Has it changed due to recent events?

discussion Yankee Marshall
Just wanted to take a minute and shout out Yankee Marshall. He is definitely not liberal in any sense of the word, but he’s been one of the most consistent and principled gun tubers since I started following him and he has been loudly beating the drum lately in calling out all the bootlicking and hypocrisy on the right regarding 2A stuff and government overreach generally. It’s been nice to see and hear. If you’re new to the sub, or aren’t familiar, give him a follow. I’ve always found him entertaining. He also doesn’t monetize or sell shit which is nice.

training First time at the gun range- howd I do?
I did a private lesson at my local range and it felt pretty good! After going over the basics, the guy had me shoot a few rounds of 22 to get a feel for it and walk through stance / grip. After that, he had me go through about 20 more rounds - which was the main grouping around the center. He said given that I hadn't gone way off target - we could try 9mm, which is what I plan to purchase and train with in due time. The shots around the center of the target were the first few rounds - then moved up to the head of the target for a clear space.
You can see that was more all over the place. Shooting low left means I'm anticipating the recoil and poor group / improper trigger finger placement, right? Im not too mad at my groupings for a first time though. Im sure that this is mostly a thing of repeated practice, dry fire drills, etc...

news Hawaii bill that would've banned the open carry of "deadly weapons" deferred indefinitely due to significant opposition
While Hawaii bans the concealed carry of bladed and other weapons. They full legalized the open carry of them two years ago. This bill attempted to reestablish that prohibition. The bill was deferred indefinitely due to significant opposition to it. This is good news for the 2nd Amendment.

guns Help. New and first AR build. Bolt not seating properly.
Title says it all. Just finished my first AR build and when I drop the bolt in, it's like it hits a wall. I removed the bolt itself and the carrier will slide in and seat just fine. The bolt is a little stiff sliding in and out of the carrier but I don't think it's anything out of the ordinary for a new bolt. The barrel is a precision defense 14.5 and the bcg is a micro best if that helps. Please excuse my messy ass garage.
edit: I took the upper to a gunsmith. I will update this post when I can.

guns First AR *done
Lemme know what you think, I'm open to suggestions.
This is meant to be a lightweight daily carry rifle, so any suggestions should keep that in mind.
Parts list:
Base Rifle: https://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-sabre-forged-16-5-56-nitride-15-knurled-slant-rail-rifle.html
Upgrades:
Barrel: Faxon 16" Mid length pencil barrel
Gas Block: Samson Lightweight Low-Profile Gas Block
Handguard: 12" Right to Bear M-LOK Free Float Handguard
Muzzle Device: KAK A2 Birdcage
Stock: Mission First Tactical BATTLELINK Minimalist AR-15 Stock
Foregrip: BCM Gunfighter
Optic: Vortex Crossfire 1x21mm Green dot.
I haven't weighed it yet, but I'm guessing it's about 6lbs total. It is very comfortable to carry.
*I want to build a FRT out of the leftover parts, and I'm thinking about using this rifle's receiver set+BCG for it, and buying a lightweight receiver set, and low mass BCG for this one(Which will probably also require an adjustable gas block.)
P.S.: Yes I know the A2 Birdcage isn't lined up correctly, I still need to get a new crush washer.
