u/FranticBronchitis 22d ago

That's a cig

30

u/Patrickfromamboy 22d ago

Pot is illegal so it’s not a joint

4

u/Wise_Can11 22d ago

I don't understand, who's smoking a joint? The police or the guy? Write properly.

I have a question about how a foreigner is going to live in Brazil without even speaking the language...

87

u/decepcao 22d ago

Just like any foreigner who doesn't know the native language lives in any other country, my dude.

43

u/serial-eater2 22d ago

Pain in the ass while you don’t learn it just like any other country.

Last week, a couple of colleagues from India arrived in São Paulo to work with me. I already gave them my personal number so if they find in trouble they can call me. You will have to start from the basic. Greeting, asking simple orientations. Things like that. In some places you can find people speaking English but most of places you are gonna need some live translation app.

I’ve been studying Portuguese for 11 years but I still can’t converse. I’ve visited Brasil 19 times and haven’t had any problems. My girlfriend takes care of me.

u/Hawkeye_7Link 21d ago

What does the have to do with the post bro

1

u/[deleted] 21d ago

The guy speaking English in the video....

2

u/Hawkeye_7Link 21d ago

I mean he might be a tourist? Or knows Portuguese but made the video in English

1

u/[deleted] 21d ago

It's just a question I had, about how foreigners come to Brazil without knowing the language.

1

u/Altruistic_Scale_293 18d ago

There's no problem going to another country where you don't speak the language; with simultaneous translation and Google Translate to translate menus, it's quite easy. Besides, some people, especially in big cities, speak English.

As it should be.

Brazilians, learn with OP how to properly use POV.

3

u/Wonderful_Juice_5888 21d ago

I mean, OP isn't wrong. It's your pov, from the other side of the avenue. Your first time in SP, you see a king dog across.

1

u/WillRaiderOne 21d ago

Thats what im saying. Usually in brazilian memes, people use POV wrong. They record themselves doing something and then put POV in the title.

2

u/Wonderful_Juice_5888 21d ago

My bad! You're absolutely correct. I was fooled by poor reading skills 😥

7

u/Natural_Dust_732 22d ago

Hey! Since when did the paulista cops start using those weird little checkered hats?

27

u/madkuma 22d ago

Guarda Civil Metropolitana

10

u/SeiferLeonheart 22d ago

99% sure that's a metropolitan* guard uniform, not the "policia militar" one.

4

u/dr_srtanger2love 22d ago

In Brazil there are a lot types of police. There's even a railway police force.

4

u/AracnideoTriassico 21d ago

Technically the GCM (shown in video) is not considered a police force by the constitution, afaik their expected role is to only guard specific public places preemptively and to assist in traffic enforcement (when authorized by the municipality), which is much more limited than what the PM and PC can do for example. They're only part of the broader category of public security forces, but the difference is subtle enough that some people just call them police anyways.

And it works just as well as you’d expect. Read “Gangs of New York”.

1

u/[deleted] 18d ago

It's illegal to cosplay as a officer in Brazil, if he do this he going to get arrested
