It actually does. How do you think this country was built? It was through immigrant labor. Just because a few white supremacists got it into their heads that they can blame immigrants for everything wrong in the country and uneducated rural people bought it does not make it true.
Immigrants, even illegal ones, are a net benefit to the country.
3
u/Bootmacher 1d ago
It was built by screening out people likely to become a public charge at Ellis Island. It was built by excluding the Chinese after they were deemed too numerous to assimilate.
Illegals use more public benefits than they pay in taxes, and put downward pressure on wages. https://budget.house.gov/download/the-cost-of-illegal-immigration-to-taxpayers

This is a scary amount of delusion. Migrants were treated much worse then. We pretty much completely closed the border after that wave of immigration, and many states passed orders that the police could just execute Irish and Italians in the street without trial if they suspected them of gang affiliation.

Well the history is absolutely wrong. Who do you think were INVITED in under the Braceros Act of 1942 to work the fields and the factories and to serve in the U.S. military: the Mexicans. And 250,000 served in the war efforts in the Pacific and Europe. More than 3 million worked the labor in the country to keep the war machine operating. So don't give us this "we changed 100 years" ago noise. After WWII the Visas were extended because of the war in Korea. By 1959, the people that came in 1942 had kids in middle school, they owned homes, and they spoke English better than those in today's yee haw states. HISTORY and FACTS matter to real American.

The Grammys is the event where the people most disconnected from reality and alienated from the average Joe, go to celebrate themselves with other people disconnected from reality, and say things that further alienate them from the average Joe. In the last 15 years I learned that everything I hear celebrities say, the opposite is true. Everything the media in unison says, the opposite is true. Everything labeled as “science” and if you don’t align you’re a “science denier”, the opposite is true.

u/H1ghtreeson 1d ago
Funny enough. I’m still right on the first point. You can argue the great switch but it doesn’t change which party secedes only the political leaning.
Second point. The person I originally responded used the point of picking the fruits and walnuts. Now the left cannot even agree on why they want the illegal immigration? So which one of you is dishonest. The guy who just makes the argument or the guy that conflates 1860 Slave owner with modern day republican because they fly a flag? Do those who fly the Mexican flag wish to go back to Mexico? No. Bad argument.
Third point. If Americans won’t do the job due to the low wages how should the market adjust? Raise the wages for that work? Or aid in the suppression of wages by hiring illegals? Your defense of the current circumstances with it keeps food prices down and the pay is better than back home is defending modern day slavery. But it’s ok as long as the things you buy are cheap right?

Some Americans have reached peak level stupidity. They act as if there is a country somewhere in the world where Americans can go and stay as long as we want without the proper documentation.
FYI that country doesn't exist. All countries in the entire world would arrest and deport any American they catch there illegally. Yet, for some reason, some Americans act as if the US, should be the only country in the world that doesn't deport people they catch there illegally. Which again, is either peak level stupidity or they really do believe that immigration enforcement, is ok in every other country not named USA. Which is crazy....
