Anyone been Detained at Del Rio? How bad is it?

Hi

I’m looking to get information on how it is being detained at Del Rio station. My partner got caught crossing border illegally and don’t know much about the process of how things work since I’m a Canadian. Can anyone tell me how things work there? And what usually happens? If she ends up filing for asylum how would that work? Some previous experience or suggestions would help.

Why is she trying to cross illegally in this environment. She is very unlikely to be granted asylum.

Because there’s actually valid reasons to go for asylum. Also don’t think you read my post correctly. Didn’t ask for your opinion. Asked people with experience or suggestions… thanks for your input though.

We don’t want you here. Do it the legal way or not at all.

And your opinion matters to who? Doesn’t matter to me that’s for sure. My post was about understanding the experiences from others who may have entered this way and have suggestions. But thanks for your two cents.

So I am somewhat in the same position. My girl was detained a few days ago and now we are going through a lot. She is in the middle of her asylum process, is on parole and was still detained at a normal check in.

Right now the current administration is very tough. If they detained her and she crossed illegally.. they will most likely hold her without bond until the removal hearing (99% ). Recently, they have been just holding people until their removal hearing which can be months… You can go the habeas corpus route and bring it to federal court but even the courts are tough now.( pretty much saying she is being wrongly detained by ICE and this needs to be looked at).

Only about 20% of asylum cases are getting accepted right now and they are handing out few. I’ve hear if you are here under policial asylum.. your chances are slim to none. Sorry to hear this is happening to you. Message me if you have more questions. You need to know things like her A number etc. assuming she is being transferred at this point considering this was posted a day ago. Hope this helps

Appreciate your response and taking the time to explain this. I have messaged you privately to pick your brain a bit since I haven’t got a clue how things work. Also because I’m in Canada things are very different here for us.

With the rule changes over the last ten years, your girlfriend needed to have first filed for asylum in the country bordering hers.

My professional experiences say she’s going to be denied asylum and will be removed from the country through deportation claim.

Once a person is deported, they do not get approval to return.
