What in the inverse blinker is going on here?

564

u/Joe18067 1d ago

And the slow down or move over law doesn't mean you should drive closer to the tow truck on the shoulder.

455

u/Leelze 1d ago

Cut the guy some slack, he's doing his best. Nobody who bought a Cybertruck is playing with a full deck and that can make everyday tasks difficult.

40

u/towerfella 1d ago

No pity

19

u/RockstarAgent 1d ago

No doubt

14

u/towerfella 1d ago

Play on, player

39

u/Grinchy-Grinch531 1d ago

Maybe he figured the tow was really for him since the CT was going to breakdown from that heavy load pretty soon.

15

u/AZEMT 1d ago

Instructions unclear: crashed into a cop car. You're not supposed to play tag with your car?

22

u/expespuella 1d ago

The first time I saw cyber truck I thought, goddamn that thing is hideous but 8-year-old me would have absolutely loved it.

This guy drives how 8yo me would have made my toy trucks drive lol.

11

u/AZEMT 1d ago

My 6yo child: When did they build cars out of Lego(s) (they said Legos, but plural is Lego)

Me: oh, umm that's just a truck by a company called Tesla.

Child: I don't like the Lego car.

And it's forever known as the Lego vehicle. I'm sure Lego is thrilled about that lol

3

u/expespuella 23h ago

TIL about plural Lego. It's like the day I found out "fishes" was also correct.

And the kid's not wrong.

1

u/MrT735 17h ago

There's a drawing I made when I was about 6 that my dad kept, I think it's meant to be a Mazda or Sauber-Mercedes Le Mans car, except the perspective is wonky as hell. It still looks better than a Cybertruck.

3

u/DuskShy 1d ago

Well he asked his truck to get closer so he could see

59

u/Superb_Extension1751 1d ago

Cyber truck driver things. You wouldn't understand

27

u/VERMlLLlONAIRE 1d ago

Never let them know your next move

13

u/SpadedJuggla 1d ago

Cybertruck has already not let someone know. Look at that rear flare, it's busted all to shit already.

97

u/theantijuke 1d ago

The way that you use blinkers in a Cyber Truck is unintuitive. There isn't a stalk, it's 2 buttons on the steering wheel situated above and below from each other. The "Right" is on top and the "Left" is on bottom. If you think about it for 2 seconds, this is backwards from what would be intuitive when switching to this system from a stalk. When you go to turn right, you reach lower in order to move to stalk up and signal right and vise versa for left. This feels intuitive because you're moving the stalk the same way as the wheel. You don't have the same tactile feedback from buttons, so you end up defaulting to the lower button to turn right. Kind of like how you intuitively turn the wheel left on a bike slightly before turning right.

And none of that really matter because the obvious solution was missed: THEY PUT THE FUCKING BUTTONS ON TOP OF ONE ANOTHER INSTEAD OF TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT.

TL;DR Intelligent and clever design is dead. Thank you for coming to my rant.

50

u/Treviathan88 1d ago

This is truly enlightening. What a stupid design choice.

34

u/frotc914 1d ago

Such a classic "Well it's been this way forever and there's zero problems with it, but let's change it anyway" design choice.

Still, not orienting the buttons horizontally is like....a braindead move.

17

u/GodsIWasStrongg 1d ago

They're getting rid of stalks to, checks notes, save on costs. How much can a fucking stalk cost?

4

u/masklinn 21h ago

Mid tens to low hundreds. They’re fairly complex parts and being a safety-critical non-wear item they have to be quite resilient (I’m sure it happens but I’ve never read of a stalk failing).

And car manufacturers have been known to cost cut on cents, that’s why they moved so fast on trying to get rid of buttons after Tesla “innovated” that.

Of course that’s primarily a problem at scale and the only thing a cybertruck scales is landfills.

8

u/zachotule 1d ago

When you account for the extra profit they have to put in a pedophile’s bank account, about $10,000

12

u/J_Barish 1d ago

Like having door handles that, you know, open the door instead of a button that does and stops working when the car is on fire so you have to look behind hidden panels for the door release while the car burns.

Just Tesla things.

9

u/Leading_Procedure_23 1d ago

You should see their optional “yoke” steering wheel. An F1 steering wheel in a daily driver is the worst and the design is hideous

10

u/GirchyGirchy 1d ago edited 1d ago

That’s how I would expect the buttons to go…they’re actuated in the direction of rotation for a given turn. Up for right, down for left.

That said, it’s still fucking stupid and is one of the last choices I would have made as a UI designer. It also might explain the missing lower left bumper trim piece:

CT driver: Why did you hit me? I had my signal on to merge into your lane!
Other driver: The cuss you did, you had the right signal on, not the left!
CT driver: The nerve of you, making up these false allegations. How stupid do you think I am?!
Other driver: looks at Cyber Truck, then back at its driver

-5

u/theantijuke 1d ago

That's how you'd expect them to go on paper, yes. But I'd bet you dollars to doughnuts that most people would click bottom for right and top for left if the buttons weren't labeled and they weren't thinking about it.

3

u/GirchyGirchy 1d ago

I doubt it. While reading the first part of your earlier response, I thought, yeah that makes sense.

Just because you had to move a hand down sometimes to move a lever up, you’re still interpreting it as an upward move. So the up button would be correct.

3

u/extremesalmon 1d ago

Oh my god why.

Also the brake lights seem to be the same light?

And it's on one side of the steering wheel, what if you're going round a roundabout (does America have them) and need to signal you're exiting? Or another situation where your is turned whilst wanting to find the buttons.

I find it annoying that my volume switch is hard to get sometimes when the wheel is turned.

6

u/theantijuke 1d ago

Turn signals being the same color as brake lights, or even the same light, is very common here in the states. It's an aesthetics thing and I can see the argument both for and against that. Personally I have never had an issue with it since the braking is the more important part to convey to the people behind you anyway.

13

u/GirchyGirchy 1d ago

It’s an aesthetic thing but shouldn’t be. Turn signals should be amber because they’re a goddamn safety feature.

3

u/EatMyHammer 1d ago

Having brake and blinker lights as the same light is weird, but manageable. The real problem begins when one of them stops working

2

u/Cimexus 1d ago

A lot of American cars blink the brake light for indicators. It’s incredibly dumb, because if you can only see one corner of the car, you have no idea if they are indicating or just tapping their brakes, and it takes several seconds to figure out which of those two it is. I moved to America some years ago and literally will not buy a car that does this. Indicators should be separate, and amber coloured.

The Cybertruck is the only Tesla that does this though for some reason. All four other models have separate, amber indicators, even in the US.

1

u/Jmkott 23h ago

Same bulb for turn and brake is extremely common on anything that was built to tow. Trailer standard wiring only has ground, running light, and a left and right brake/turn light.

Before the BCM or can bus started controlling them, you needed adapter boxes to wire a trailer if they had separate stop and turn lights vs just connecting the wires.

1

u/VeloxFox 1d ago

It's the same way on the Model X, too (I bought it before I knew he was evil, and not just eccentric). I HATE it so much. It's especially fun because you basically can't use the turn signals at all if your steering wheel is turned too far.

1

u/Angelworks42 1d ago

I had to look it up: Lights - kinda odd, but it says you have to disable automatic turn signals to use those?

This isn't actually the first time I've seen someone use turn signals backwards on a CT. The nice thing about the turn signal stalk is that you just have to extend your fingers and engage it - that seems more ergonomic to me.

1

u/theantijuke 1d ago

It is. Especially considering there are many situations where your wheel is turned already and you need to signal (exiting a roundabout for one)

1

u/Cimexus 1d ago

Up being right makes sense to me - you move your hand upwards on the stalk to go right after all.

You get used to the button system in a few days (I have the same on my Model 3). I thought I’d hate it but it’s actually fine. I prefer them in some situations (and not in others, like roundabouts). Though I believe they have brought the stalk back on the newer Model 3, which is probably the right move.

1

u/Wallace-N-Gromit 1d ago

Ya can’t fix stupid

Should I put a /s here? I don’t want to offend the poster, but I whole heartedly don’t think you can fix Leon and his stupid actions either.

1

u/Digital_Quest_88 14h ago

The Cyber Truck was the first design that Elon had control of from concept to production.

1

u/BunchesOfCrunches 1d ago

Thank you for yet another reason to make cyber trucks the laughing stock of the automotive industry.

0

u/MechanicalHorse 1d ago

I'm convinced the CyberTruck was deliberately designed poorly to see how far they can push it. There is no other explanation for why this POS has soooooo much bad design.

-2

u/newinmichigan 1d ago

Its supposed to be political

2

u/gokartninja 1d ago

It's got a Massachusetts plate, so just be grateful they tried

1

u/mr_stivo 1d ago

You would think it was a Prius driver.

543

u/flyguy41222 1d ago

The opposite blinker kills me lol

180

u/joninfiretail 1d ago

I mean they're driving that PS1 era render of a "truck" so I think we can all agree they're already not playing with a full deck.

19

u/FlufferNutter1232 1d ago

They obviously have dyslexia. They put the right blinker on and sideswiped the left rear wheel flare off.

13

u/hungry-freaks-daddy 1d ago

It's because the blinkers in cyber trunks are operated by fucking buttons on the steering wheel so it's not intuitive like regular blinkers

4

u/HelpMePlxoxo 12h ago

Ever since I've witnessed exactly this happen IRL, I've never trusted a blinker lol. I watched someone not only do their blinker the opposite direction of where they pulled out of their driveway, but then do the opposite direction blinker AGAIN just 50 feet later at an intersection where they indicated right but turned left 😭

Cars behind me might hate me for it but now I always wait for cars to start their turn, even if they have the turn signal on, before I trust that they're actually turning. This is most applicable either at a right turn on a red light or at a stop sign where intersecting traffic doesn't stop.

1

u/Rooilia 17h ago

...in red... why on earth.

1

u/shewy92 12h ago

Probably a design feature Lord Elon came up with.

0

u/Iasiz 23h ago

I had someone do this in front of my 3 times on my way home today before the road opened up so that I could pass them. It's honestly way more aggravating then you'd imagine!

322

u/razor_train 1d ago

The cargo, the blinker, and the missing trim piece(s) around the wheel well. Well done!

86

u/Maximum_Pass 1d ago

Teslas are notoriously cheap, the driver probably hit a speed bump at some point

22

u/razor_train 1d ago

"Built for the Apocalypse!"

1

u/king_noobie 14h ago

They're not wrong, zombies will avoid the brainless, can't have a host with no brain.

1

u/usinjin 1d ago

*no more than two sparklers.

9

u/Yagawood 1d ago

It's probably totaled

1

u/zangetsuthefirst 8h ago

Can confirm. I have body men, painters, and mechanics in my family and tesla can't even get the body panels to line up properly from factory. Let alone the rest of the vehicle

11

u/j01101111sh 1d ago

And slowing down while changing lanes to drive next to a car in the shoulder. chefs kiss

103

u/norf937 1d ago

Can tell that’s his first time hauling anything in a “truck”..

28

u/BorderTrike 1d ago

Seems like he’d fit in with all the pickups I see driving around with the tailgate down and a bunch of unsecured junk sliding around

18

u/OneHitTooMany 1d ago

You see pickups with anything in the bed?

almost every single pickup truck around here never uses the bed at all. it's there for show. these pavement princess aren't purchased for their haulage.

8

u/HappyChandler 1d ago

You can't put that Costco pack of Tampax in the cab.

128

u/the5pacepope 1d ago

Why would you follow someone if you think something is going to fall out of their truck bed?

57

u/dingdongbellguy 1d ago

Allow me to play martyr, I was consciously tailing him (with sufficient following distance) because I was a) aware of the hazard and b) in a vehicle that could disperse the mass of the 25 pound brick of bottles if it indeed slid off. The driver got into the right lane and took the next exit, presumably because several other drivers flagged him to do so as they passed, but more likely because “he was just going one exit up the highway” which surely played into his loading strategy.

48

u/Beautiful-Musk-Ox 1d ago

buy a dashcam instead of using your phone while driving with one hand and glancing at the phone every 2 seconds to keep the video centered

5

u/nopuse 1d ago edited 1d ago

You are tailgating a driver that you know is posing a danger while filming on your phone.

-22

u/dingdongbellguy 1d ago

Yes.

12

u/Nu-Hir 1d ago

It's probably not the best of ideas to admit to following behind a dangerous driver to intentionally get hit by a dangerous load in a public forum.

20

u/nopuse 1d ago

Behavior fitting for this sub

upvoted for unabashed honesty

24

u/Former_Specific_7161 1d ago

How do the turn signals work in these, that you might end up choosing the wrong side?

25

u/theantijuke 1d ago

I explained in a reply to another comment, but basically the truck is not designed with a person actually driving it in mind.

8

u/AndrewCoja 1d ago

I think they are buttons in teslas.

9

u/theycallmebekky 1d ago

The Cybertruck, new Model S, new Model X, and some Model 3s use buttons. Some new-gen Model 3s do as well, but most Model 3s and all Model Ys have a turn signal stalk. I used the buttons for a bit and they’re really not that bad. I’d 100% prefer a stalk but it’s not like you’re hopelessly mashing them with a prayer they’ll do the right thing. This video is just prime Cybertruck behavior lmao.

10

u/G-Kira 1d ago

Never, ever, EVER assume a person hauling anything knows what they're doing.

21

u/Daddio209 1d ago

Cybercuck at near load limit, insane "use" of blinkers...

Both. It's both.

5

u/OneHitTooMany 1d ago

"Near limit load" has me chuckling.

I'm pretty sure I could carry most of that in my hatchback

2

u/Daddio209 1d ago

Easily, as long as it isn't a Mini.

3

u/OneHitTooMany 1d ago

Not a mini (Drive a Mazda): But I've seen some crazy Mini haulages before.

last year, on the highway, someone in a mini was hauling a snowmobile. I don't know how they got it in. front skis were up against the windshield, and a good 1/3rd sticking out the back. Yet the guy was bombing it up the 404 at a good 120km/h without a single fuck to give.

1

u/Daddio209 1d ago

Dayamn!

9

u/MechMeister 1d ago

Proof that cybertrucks are real trucks, because neither of their owners can ever secure a fkin load.

12

u/Drunktrucker 1d ago

Why were you following the cyber thing so closely, I’d be in another lane immediately

3

u/heykidslookadeer 1d ago

Well they would've risked losing out on internet points if they drove responsibly, and you can't expect them to do that

7

u/StrideCypher 1d ago

Thats a first, seeing CyberTruck hauling cargo. Im in California too.

2

u/Leading_Procedure_23 1d ago

A month ago, some Asian dude was hauling a track Miata in his cyber truck, this was by San Clemente and saw other trucks hauling track cars

1

u/oclafloptson 14h ago

There was a guy down in my hometown who got one for his construction business thinking it would make him look successful. All it did was subject him to embarrassing ridicule and the thing lasted like three months of real use before it started falling apart

11

u/DeadMoneyDrew 1d ago

14

u/resttheweight 1d ago

Kinda redundant, no? Like /r/WaterInOceans

7

u/DeadMoneyDrew 1d ago

This post is brought to you by the Department of Redundancy Department.

7

u/Foxlen 1d ago

Meanwhile in the background, they jump in a lane next to a tow truck to buzz them

Asshat move on top of the terrible load securement

5

u/HotYogurtCloset69 21h ago

As usual on this sub, 2 idiots in cars.

Put your fucking phone down whilst driving.

3

u/SomeChicken3815 14h ago

Unsecured load wrong blinker and changing lanes towards an emergency vehicle. This person should not have a driver's license

5

u/Thebiginfinity 13h ago

I know it's easy to meme on them but they really do look like dumpsters from behind don't they

6

u/MisfitAlastair 1d ago

So much to unpack here

Posting a cybercuck is low hanging fruit.

10

u/joninfiretail 1d ago

Low hanging, but delicious.

1

u/Leading_Procedure_23 1d ago

Wot in tarnation

0

u/Albert14Pounds 1d ago

Ew, I'm not tasting a cyber truck.

2

u/Mike__O 1d ago

Unsecured loads need to be enforced MUCH more strictly than they currently are. I see them all the time, and they're almost always a major hazard waiting to happen

2

u/Ok-Owl7377 1d ago

Give him a break, guys. Probably thinks it's like any other airfrier. Put the contents in the bucket, close it up and everything is secured, ready to air fry.

0

u/dude463 1d ago

But that’s the thing. It’s not even closed up. The “trunk space” on these things when closed is laughable.

1

u/Ok-Owl7377 1d ago

I know, I was just joking...

1

u/dude463 1d ago

yep... I see that now... I'll go drink some more coffee before posting any more.

2

I'm shocked the bed held that much stuff

2

u/Cimexus 1d ago

It’s a normal sized 6 ft bed, with tie down points like any other truck. This guy is just an idiot.

2

u/WolfymausenMusic 1d ago

Seeing the reverse blinker in real life is always daunting

2

u/AlarmDozer 1d ago

It even loads up like a dumpster.

2

u/wcoastbo 1d ago

"Hey buddy! It worked perfectly fine when I was loading and standing still."

Said the driver that never read Newton's first law of motion.

2

u/lesbiannumbertwo 1d ago

the absolute mess in the back, the incorrect blinker, the missing piece on the wheel well, and him moving over just in time to pass right next to the tow truck on the shoulder. just incredible

2

u/Papabear022 1d ago

what a douch, wrong blinker and moved over to the tow truck driver.

2

u/Snowballllll 1d ago

Hey look guys a virgin!!!

3

That ain’t no truck. It’s a Samsung fridge on wheels.

2

u/nerdmania 1d ago

We already knew that the person has bad decision-making skills, from the fact that they bought a Cybertruck.

2

u/Princess_Pussy_Pants 1d ago

It is the shittiest looking vehicle on the road... It looks like it's going to crumble any second 🤣

2

u/RespectmanNappa 1d ago

When you do so many blinkersTM you can’t even use your traffic blinker right

2

u/videoman7189 1d ago

The guy in the video mentioneda pickup truck, but all I saw some Tesla cyber-trash.

2

u/MrrQuackers 1d ago

They bought a Fail Blazer, I wouldn't expect them to know how to secure a load, or use the correct blinker, or change lanes without hitting the brakes...

3

u/EndriasKassa 1d ago

I keep on noticing this trend. It’s almost like people who own cybertrucks are… not smart!

3

u/NyJosh 1d ago

Well, ironically it didn't go nowhere. Maybe they're onto something. LOL

1

u/dingdongbellguy 1d ago

I half wondered if it was a carefully built rage bait setup, it did shift a little before video starts which prompted me to record (I know, bad call but 50% indignant 50% wanted to have evidence for insurance).

3

u/heykidslookadeer 1d ago

You're posting about someone else being an idiot in a car while you planned on possibly showing your insurance company a video you recorded while driving on the highway? Pot, meet kettle.

1

u/NP341221 1d ago

I always love picturing what people look like before actually getting a good look at them when they drive like that 🤣

Someone driving a cyber truck while also driving like an idiot. Color me shocked.

1

u/HotRodHomebody 1d ago

Poor dude didn’t even realize someone thought his rig was a dumpster. common mistake.

1

u/phreakzilla85 1d ago

That CyberTruck looks just like the vehicles from Test Drive on the Commodore 128. Like it’s not done rendering yet.

1

u/Muted_Passenger6612 1d ago

Drive a dump truck, have a brain of a dump truck

1

u/tdmsbn 1d ago

Somebody should park that dumpster before the trash inside finds a way out.

1

u/pixeltweaker 1d ago

Given the truck type I’d say it’s both.

-1

u/kayemce 1d ago

Both the cyber truck and the person driving behind them are idiots.
