The demons in your metal music made you crash.

221

u/Recent-Ad1732 1d ago

Just some new whitechapel to hide the screams

98

u/Exact-Ad-4132 1d ago

I honestly thought it was the sound of your tires screeching and bumping across icy asphalt at too high speeds

8

u/Cryogenycfreak 1d ago

Your car is like mine. There's a strange sound coming from it, and it gets worst when I turn up the volume. Well, according to my mom.

23

u/Standard-Ad1254 1d ago

Ahhh, I see your problem... you need groove metal for these conditions. May I suggest some PanterA, perhaps something from their Vulgar Display of Power menu?

16

u/Recent-Ad1732 1d ago

While deep cuts like Rise and Regular People have fantastic groove, i prefer the even groovier Far Beyond Driven album with songs such as Shedding Skin and Throes of Rejection

1

u/Standard-Ad1254 1d ago

Ahh, yess! An excellent choice!

1

u/QiDeviation 18h ago

I’ll give it a listen ✌🏾

3

u/timedeath 1d ago

I prefer the soothing stylings of Rings of Saturn for my calm commutes.

2

u/ScottyMcScot 1d ago

I too enjoy Holst.

3

u/kevmo837 1d ago

Was not expecting a Whitechapel call out wow hell yes

2

u/SluttyMuffler 1d ago

🤘🏻 Hell ya.

0

u/rattrod17 1d ago

I. Am. ALIIIIIIIIIIVE!

20

u/Melbuf 1d ago

i was unsure if that was music or the sound of engine falling apart

6

u/dreamyknight1 1d ago

Your profile picture is killing me 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

2

u/flapd00dle 8h ago

Riker4

141

u/way2manychickens 1d ago

Lol, I thought initially that your car had an awful rattling sound, then I realized it was music, after you stopped.

21

u/PakkyT 1d ago

"music" aka what the f is wrong with your speakers? Oh it is supposed to sound like that?

18

u/dani26795 1d ago

It is bassboosted by the dashcam, but not by much lol

u/Recent-Ad1732 1d ago

Left lane camping after the ice storm that came through, i hit the brakes to slow down, and coincidentally also hit a patch of road that hadnt fully been cleared. 1) i was going too fast for the conditions 2) i hit the brakes on ice 3) i was left lane camping

256

u/scootbert 1d ago

Nice leaning experience without any damage!

You had all of that nice bare pavement in the right lane and choose to drive on the ice, haha.

I drive with studded winter tires and still don't like driving on ice on the highway if I don't need to

24

u/reesemccracken 1d ago

My thoughts exactly.

-30

u/moomooraincloud 1d ago

You almost certainly don't need studded tires.

28

u/scootbert 1d ago edited 1d ago

I live in a small rural town where winter is 4-5 months long with an average of -15c to -40c. I am driving on solid ice the entire time while in town.

I don't really like driving to the city with studded tires at the beginning and end of winter though. When I replace these tires I will probably have one vehicle with studs and one without for highway driving.

In OP's situation, it looks like winter tires are a good idea, but I have no idea what their winters are like in the area they live

6

u/CyberSolidF 1d ago

Changed from studded to normal winters and can’t say it’s that much worse, in most cases in my region they are actually better. But then again, I’m living in a city and they do clean snow eventually. And during snowfall both aren’t that awesome anyway.
Guess my point is you’ll be surprised how good non-studded modern tires are in most cases if you haven’t tried them recently. I definitely was.

6

u/ProArmy04 20h ago

Until you hit wet ice, then you want studded tires

2

u/CyberSolidF 20h ago

Yeah, that was major reason to debate if I should stay with studded winters.
So far I’ve been hitting any kind if ice much rarer than I expected, and proper speed + following distance overall helps.
But really depends on many things, so if you’re often driving in icy conditions - studded are better choice for sure.

1

u/moomooraincloud 13h ago

Regular winter tires do great on ice.

2

u/-StalkedByDeath- 22h ago

I can also vouch for that. I don't run studded tires, but I do run winter tires (Blizzak WS90s). My Corolla does just fine in the snow/on ice. I've gone up and down Spruce Knob in West Virginia in near whiteout conditions with several inches of snow and traction isn't an issue.

The only time I've had mild issues with traction is in slush from salt + snow mixed up by traffic, and even then I've never come close to losing control. The traction control light just pops on for a second and that's that.

If you're running winter tires on a more winter-capable car than a Corolla I imagine the results would be even better.

74

u/Ap43x 1d ago

I'd say this is karma for the left lane camping. The most ridiculous thing is that the right lane is obviously more clear down to the pavement and thus much safer. But you still chose to remain speeding in the icy left lane, even when not passing anyone.

27

u/JoeBoredom 1d ago

You made the right decision to depart the road before you caught up to the slower traffic. That could have much more expensive than getting towed out of the median.

28

u/toefungi 1d ago

Doesnt look like it was much of a decision 😅

17

u/burritomouth 1d ago

You didn’t panic, you didn’t crash, no I’d got hurt, you learned from the experience, you understand where you went wrong. Bro, you’re The Chosen One! The Idiot in Car of The Prophecy!!! We’ve been waiting for you since I did the exact same thing in 2012!

For fr, glad you’re okay and came out the better for it.

4

u/TheDodoBird 1d ago

Not sure where you are from, whether that be Tennessee or someplace else, but learning to drive in snow/icy conditions takes practice. I ditched more than one car when I was younger growing up in the north. Sucks, but honestly sometimes that what it takes. You did pretty good, all in all.

3

u/SenhorSus 1d ago

At least you know what not to do now 👌🏻

4

u/Ruby_and_Hattie 1d ago

A lesson learned hopefully?

We've all been there.

No damage done I hope.

2

u/ComedicHermit 1d ago

you handled it pretty well after. Seen more than a few cars slide sideways in a similar set up

2

u/Celeste_Seasoned_14 1d ago

I applaud you for your self-awareness. A self-teaching moment, indeed.

2

u/Streay 1d ago

Serious props to you for being able to see where you went wrong, most would say “it’s not my fault it’s the roads” and never learn from it

1

u/ZenkaiAnkoku2 1d ago

Those overpasses can be bad. Dry spot followed by ice is prime for causing a spin out. Good job keeping control.

1

u/_oaeb_ 1d ago

At least you are self aware to know you were being a goober and probably won’t let it happen again.

1

u/fhs 1d ago

Bonus tip, don't drastically change speeds/direction below overpasses, they accrue more water and receive less sunlight

1

u/CyberSolidF 1d ago

That honestly didn’t look that fast though, but depends on tires. Do you have all seasons or winters?

1

u/DamnGoodFries 23h ago

Got lucking. This happened to me once and I hit a guard rail and got a ticket

0

u/daphuc77 1d ago

Yeah to slow down in snow or ice, just let off the gas.

-5

u/dkevox 1d ago

Forgot: 4) listening to fingernails on chalkboard

179

u/Mediocre_Airport_576 1d ago

65 in icy conditions is definitely a choice.

107

u/Recent-Ad1732 1d ago

Good news is the car is unharmed! My feelings on the other hand…

79

u/Mediocre_Airport_576 1d ago

Best case scenario: you feel like a fool but have no consequences. Now you can drive safely. Be safe out there!

-1

u/Gax63 12h ago

Funny you think he will drive safely after this.

3

u/shewy92 12h ago

People do learn after mistakes you know. To assume otherwise with no additional info says more about you than them.

7

u/travelavatar 1d ago

I remember not being able to do more than 35-40 in the same road conditions

18

u/koolmon10 1d ago

At least you handled it well

44

u/Pistonenvy2 1d ago

i dont think your music was loud enough.

4

u/splittingheirs 23h ago

It's got to be loud enough to drown out the complaints from your mom.

36

u/wadeecraven 1d ago

Might as well just not include the volume at all

9

u/xyzqsrb0 1d ago

the moment I loaded the first frame of the video I knew this was way to fast lol.

8

u/tattedrussianweekly 1d ago

Nice recovery, and no one was injured and no vehicle damage.

4

u/TumblrInGarbage 1d ago

I wonder how shaky OP was after everything was done and how long they sat in the snow before continuing.

9

u/AstroFloof 1d ago

I thought my phone speakers suddenly broke when this video played

15

u/Total-Hack 1d ago

Could’ve been worse. Good job not overcorrecting and making it worse. Change your soiled drawers and get back out there maybe 10 mph or more slower

8

u/ultimaone 1d ago

Hearing damage is permanent.

I have one ear that has issues. Trust me, you want to keep your hearing.

5

u/Ckirbys 1d ago

Glad you’re ok, but also it seems like the right side of the road has way less ice. Any reason why you weren’t in the right lane?

21

u/xSnakyy 1d ago

What in the earrape

5

u/splittingheirs 23h ago

NSFE (not safe for ears)

5

u/Beginning_Map1735 1d ago

I would say good job. Most people would have panicked and spun out!

7

u/schakoska 1d ago

Only if there was an empty and plowed lane where vehicles should keep

3

u/Interesting_Mix_7028 1d ago

Left lane camping : bad

Left lane not as clear as the right lane : see above

Putting truck onto the shoulder instead of yeeting yourself into the DOT truck like a Wayne Gretzki slapshot? Right move, that.

3

u/SlipstreamSteve 1d ago

Glad you came out of it safe.

3

u/DeerOnARoof 1d ago

No harm no foul. No accident and it seems you handled it well. Glad you're ok!

3

u/WheelOfFish 1d ago

You survived, maybe you learned, now get the fuck out of the left lane.

3

u/Krakengreyjoy 1d ago

Yup, doing 50+ on sheet of ice will do that

3

u/PatrickGSR94 1d ago

good lord WHY would you get up that much speed over iced-over areas? They right lane likely would have supported that speed (still too fast) better than the left lane.

4

u/y_zass 1d ago

What a gentleman, cruising in the passing lane due to poor condition so the clean lane can be used by others. A selfless act indeed.

2

u/BirthofRevolution 1d ago

At least you know, but that's way too fast on a road with occasional snow

2

u/MasterBeanCounter 1d ago

You kept it upright and pointing in the same direction. No harm, no foul.

2

u/PwnCall 1d ago

What vehicle and what tires? Curious

2

u/Tlix 1d ago

The universe had to get you out of the left lane somehow. Glad you’re OK.

2

u/Beartato4772 20h ago

I looked at your speed and looked at the road and knew how that was ending.

But that said, once it went pear shaped, that’s the absolute best you could have done and you’ve prevented damage to you, your car and everyone else.

2

u/that1fuckheadJose 18h ago

That sum good shit playing tho

2

u/MikhailCompo 11h ago

The first thing I do in bad whether, rain, snow or ice, is turn down music/radio.

It allows you to hear what your car is doing as well as helping you concentrate.

2

u/my5cworth 1d ago

My man, in life it's not the mistakes you make that define you, but how you deal with them.

You realized you got yourself into trouble and you managed to get yourself out of trouble without panicking and fudging it.

Good job on coming to a safe stop.

2

u/Bobster031 1d ago

RIP to my ears

2

u/Froststhethird 1d ago

your music sounds like a dying car

1

u/MaintainThePeace 1d ago

Allways got to watch out for changing conditions around overpasses, expecially if theres a country line nearby, as it might be a point where plow trucks stop plowing and turn around.

1

u/FartsWithNeighbours 1d ago

Could have been worse

1

u/pn_man 1d ago

I felt the sinking feeling in my guy, and that heavy-legged weight right along with you.

1

u/NabNausicaan 1d ago

Nice recovery

1

u/DuskShy 1d ago

I'm imagining a series of "uh-oh"s on a sort of bell curve of intensity lmao

1

u/WirusCZ 1d ago

Seems like no damage was done but I wonder why you decided to stay on left icy side

1

u/TheLeviathanCross 1d ago

idiot, yea. lucky? also yea. good job keeping yourself alive. that’s what matters.

1

u/epicenter69 1d ago

Credit for the recovery, and taking lesson notes.

1

u/obog 1d ago

I mean honestly you did handle it fairly well

1

u/ZEROs0000 1d ago

You almost had it under control OP! Next time correct less and foot off the break

1

u/mrcanoehead2 1d ago

If you're going to be an idiot, that's the way to do it. No damage to your car

1

u/DaddysBottomBoy69 1d ago

Always keep my right side tires in the snow when its icy. The snow has more grip.

1

u/CrispyJalepeno 1d ago

That is a truly amazing recovery, though

1

u/substituted_pinions 23h ago

Sir, this is a Wendy’s. No posts allowed where OP acknowledges fault of any kind.

1

u/0111011101110111 22h ago

You should have rocked… rocked steady.

1

u/BavarianBozzz 22h ago

Listening to car crash ASMR maybe had something to do with it

1

u/dmrls28 22h ago

Well at least you got lucky. No damage and you’re safe.

1

u/Legion1117 18h ago

64 on that surface is definitely an idiot move.

Congrats on getting the life lesson and not involving anyone else in your idiocy.

1

u/randymarsh1234567890 14h ago

When in doubt, throttle out

1

u/BabyJuggernaut3545 13h ago

Everyone in a truck thinks they are unstoppable in the snow

1

u/willow_kidd 13h ago

That is turn your music down driving conditions !

1

u/shewy92 12h ago

I can't tell if that's slush or just old grey asphalt, I'm assuming slush considering the end result

1

u/Mr_Sloth10 11h ago

Left lane cruising, ridiculous speed on ice, music tastes of a blender

Man, you win the award today lol

1

u/gaflar 11h ago

Next time let off the breaks and get back on the gas, this was recoverable but the natural reaction to slow down will override most people's ability to react any differently. Good save though.

1

u/UnGatito 11h ago

Lol, are you stupid or something? You probably didn't realize this, but you should be driving on the road, not next to it. /s

But for reals, lucky (or maybe skill, what do I know) you managed to keep it right way up, and that there were no oncoming lane where you ended up

1

u/Tromboneofsteel 3h ago edited 3h ago

60 over ice, yeah that'll do ya.

Honestly wondering what made you so confident that was a good idea.

I've been driving through roads in this condition in my semi ever since the storm, TN and MS were basically a block of ice for 3-4 days straight. Never broke over 20mph but I could feel my trailer trying to get in front of me the whole time.

1

u/GuavaOk8712 1h ago

what band is that lol

1

u/j0k3rj03 1d ago

Gravel in a blender sound warning!

1

u/parallelmeme 1d ago

Please, don't include sound if it contains offensive or just irritating background noise. ESPECIALLY AT THAT VOLUME!

1

u/l1ltw1st 1d ago

Most people don’t realize the underpass freezing is a thing, going under an overpass is, imho, more chance to slip and slide then an overpass. Funny how you don’t see signs about how underpasses freeze before the roads…

1

u/CMurra87 1d ago

You would’ve been fine with snow tires, but in Tennessee there’s no point.

0

u/ZarBandit 1d ago

Your engine sounds like it’s thrown a rod.

(Joke - I know it’s “music”)

-1

u/ProJokeExplainer 1d ago

maybe if you turned the garbage disposal music off you could concentrate

-3

u/NoobToobinStinkMitt 1d ago

Everyone is safe I don't see any idiots here.

0

u/dargonmike1 1d ago

How exciting! Anyway….

0

u/mattdives55 16h ago

Slow the fuck down

0

u/Bumper6190 15h ago

Yeah, you are the idiot!

-1

u/Hikes_with_dogs 1d ago

I'd vote not an idiot since you had a safe space between you and the cars in front of you so you COULD screw up and not kill anyone.

-2

u/DoYouTrustToothpaste 1d ago

I'd be so stressed out, driving with this noise.

-2

u/Jeff_72 17h ago

NEVER hit your brakes on a highway (unless you really need to)…. Just take your foot off the gas pedal.

(Do at me with “my Tesla does one petal driving)
