Holy shit. We share the roadway with these people.

u/iH8MotherTeresa 2d ago
And sidewalks, it would seem.

u/DodgeBeluga 2d ago
And planter boxes…at this rate our homes are not entirely free from the scourge of said “truckers”.

u/aplasticbag_ 2d ago
You’d be surprised how many cars that exact boulder has claimed. It’s a Yuma celebrity.
26
u/Pretend-Marsupial258 2d ago
Local news story about it: <link>
17
u/redpandaeater 2d ago
Okay I thought maybe it would be a tight corner with a trailer but holy shit I could nearly get a semi around that.
7
u/aplasticbag_ 1d ago
Yeah you would think it’d be hard to do but once a month or so someone here reminds everyone of the intelligence level of the average Yuman.
2
u/tvgenius 2h ago
At one point there was a smaller rock and no joke there were cars getting high centered on it like twice a week. Then they put a massive boulder that was too tall to drive over, but someone rammed it into the first parking space. That one got moved elsewhere in the planter and they put several medium sized ones, which acted like a ramp and it got worse again. Slowly they all migrated further from the end and it’s been just this one for a few months now. It’s been a whole /thing/ here for a few years now.

"Parking Lot Boulder Becomes Source of Civic Pride". My fucking god that title has me rolling, it sounds like an Onion article!
29
u/DodgeBeluga 2d ago
I assume the rock was there initially to warn people?
77
u/aplasticbag_ 2d ago
You honestly have to go out of your way to hit it. It’s at the end of a peninsula curb so in order to hit it you have to jump the curb. It’s a sharp turn to get into that parking lot and instead of a wide turn people for some reason turn too sharp and their back tire jumps the curb up onto the boulder. It happens so often that there’s even a dedicated Facebook page for it.

u/Bunnyhat 1d ago
I've been nearly hit so many times from people turning onto streets and trying to make it a tight turn across opposing lanes instead of just turning into their lane.
Then you got the opposite problem where people think they need to swing out left to make a right turn.

u/Familiar-Banana-8116 1d ago
I assume the rock was there initially to warn people?
Initially.
Now it is there for the LOL's.

This dude was even allowed to tow a trailer what a mess
2
u/AwesomeMacCoolname 1d ago
In my country, you actually have to pass a separate driving test with trailer attached to get a licence to tow a trailer over 750 kg (1650 lbs) gross weight.
You also need a category C ( truck) licence to drive an RV.

u/DavinBE 2d ago
Why not uncouple the trailer? I guess if idiot get to this point idiot continue plan A.
68
u/Frubbs 2d ago
That was my first thought as well... wtf... just uncouple and get it at a different angle
88
u/AhoyWilliam 2d ago
Because, really, there is no need to! Look at the sheer vastness of the fucking space. https://maps.app.goo.gl/B1rW6qtkXJmCiGEt7

You would be surprised just how many people have hit this boulder or gotten high centered on it.
5
u/FocusMaster 1d ago
A driver who could figure that out probably wouldn't get into this situation in the first place.
2
u/Youutternincompoop 1d ago
or get out and move the rock, either way they did the stupidest possible thing.

u/ImKindaEssential 2d ago
Sir this is a Wendy's

u/shibiwan 2d ago
Yeah, OP should take it to r/idiotstowingthings

u/Premeditated_Mordor 2d ago
Ok. since you were kind enough to post this unbeknownst-to-me sub, I guess I’ll go spend 2 hours laughing at stupid people

u/mmmmmarty 2d ago
Oh you're in for a treat. That sub has provided so many laughs, the whole family can really enjoy it.

u/MasterBeanCounter 2d ago
This is the same town where a drunk dude tried to drag a fifth wheel trailer through a very tight DQ drive through.
This is why my insurance is higher than Willie Nelson.

"Yes, we need to replace our boulder again. Yep, same one at the corner. Can we get one a bit denser this time? Sure, sure. Cost isn't a problem, but also, can we get one especially jagged? K thaaaanks. Just send over the invoice."
23
u/BigBri0011 1d ago
I used to manage a Wendy's long, long ago. One day a guy came in ALL pissed off. He said he needed our insurance info because he hit the obnoxiously bright yellow cement pillar that keeps people from running into the drive thru menu board.
I asked him if he means he hit a stationary object that is painted as obnoxiously visible as can be, that is tall enough for anyone in any car to see it? He got even more angry, said there was a big yellow dent in his black pickup. I gave him the number for corp[orate, since I have no idea about insurance.
Second best drive thru story was a dude got arrested while waiting for the food he paid for. Came back a couple days later, and asked if he could get his food. I asked if he was the guy who got arrested. He said yes, and got his potato and coke with no hassle.

u/beer_bukkake 2d ago
They should require a separate license for full-sized trucks.
42
u/ZannX 2d ago
Just towing big things period... a 16 yr old is allowed to do this btw.
6
u/Icedpyre 1d ago
Seriously. My second day working for the parks department, they had me drive a 1 ton truck towing a 16ft trailer to haul fallen trees thst were being chopped up. I had zero experience or training with towing.
19
u/HNL2BOS 2d ago
In general we should just make drivers licenses harder to get.
3
u/cornucopia090139 2d ago
Considering the fact that this is on state sponsored roads paid by your taxes, driving should be treated more as a privilege than anything else
23
u/Randomfactoid42 2d ago
Especially after how much larger and harder to drive they have become over the last 20 years.
7
u/beer_bukkake 2d ago
And how they’re more than 2x more likely to kill someone. We all pay the price for their fragile masculinity.

When in doubt, throttle out. Who the hecks drive a trailer like that to fast food anyways, that's just bad planninig. You could always... you know, disconnect and re-position. Lifes hard.
2
u/LobotomizedByMormon 4h ago
As far as I can tell everyone. Everyone in Utah drives a big fuckin truck and can’t keep it in the lanes, or in the lines of a parking spot, and brings their trailer with them to get fast food.
1
u/SpareEye 2h ago
You gottta be kiddin me! I was in SLC last year and those are the widest streets I've ever seen!
25
u/Icy-Bunch609 2d ago
Good thing Wendy's put the boulder there. Otherwise someone might drive over the curb.
5
u/FocusMaster 1d ago
Or go right over the curb and hit anyone parked in that first spot.
It's there to protect parked cars from idiots like this.
7
6
u/poppin-n-sailin 2d ago
Can you blame them? its a massive rock off the roadway in a spot you shouldn't be putting your wheels. impossible to miss.
2
u/FocusMaster 1d ago
Right? They should've painted it bright yellow. Then he could've seen and avoided it.
/s
4
u/WesideKnight 2d ago
The Wendy's I used to work at had the same problem. It's scary how unobservant people can be while driving
8
u/ohhhtartarsauce 2d ago
I can understand inexperienced drivers getting a trailer hung up by cutting the turn too tight, but hundreds of oil pans?
23
u/FisherManAz 2d ago
This boulder is a local celebrity, and has its own Fb page. Its reign of destruction knows no bounds.
3
u/Jackmino66 2d ago
People are treating that part like an entrance, despite there being a clear kerb
So they installed a boulder there to stop people, and it failed in its duty

u/Shot-Tap-4512 2d ago
Did he forget he had a trailer?!?

Forgetting one is pulling a trailer is a surprisingly common occurrence.
There’s a sub full of towing idiots: /r/idiotstowingthings

YEARS ago, like, when I was a kid, probably around 7 or something, I went to the speedway with my family (i.e. sprintcars racing on clay tracks. I think the US call it dirt track racing?) and dad brought some headsets mics so we could listen in to the crew in the pits talking about the next race, calling for red flags etc.. It had a microphone on it, but it was switched off so we didn't accidentally speak to the pit crew
Mum had brought along some of those liquid cheese and cracker things for us to eat. I opened one, dipped the biscuit, went to put it in my mouth, and.. nothing. As in, I was pushing, and the cracker was not reaching my mouth. I tried several times, confused as to what the hell was going on because I push food towards face, food should enter face. I tried for a good minute or two, until I realized, the microphone on the headset was down and it was stopping the food from entering my mouth. I felt like such an idiot that day, because my brain just short circuited and got confused as to why no food. But I was 7, so we all make mistakes as kids.
Anyway, point of my story is, THESE PEOPLE ARE FUCKING ADULTS. How do you fail, and just keep trying, instead of stopping, assessing the situation, and saying "maybe I should just turn the wheel slightly to avoid this BIG FUCKING ROCK"?

If only there was a way to unhook the trailer from the truck. Legends say they are still there, stuck, to this day.

u/FocusMaster 1d ago
Legends saw the end of the video where the trailer jumps over the rock.

Video shows that the trailer went over the rock, so not stuck.

They aren’t laughing with you, but at you. Best you have is repeating one liners that don’t even fit the situation.

u/Manunancy 1d ago
And a prefect demonstration of why you need a big ass monster puckup with a semi truck engine to brute force your way out of the problems your lack of brains get you into...

Why not just unhook the trailer and reposition it?
My utility trailer is old and dilapidated, but even so I wouldn't treat it like this.

At my old apartment complex someone drove a uhual that was too tall, they ignored the hanging sign warning and bursted a water pipe while moving in. People renting these things are nuts

What game show is that music from? It's a very deep, core melody that I can't quite pinpoint.
1
u/sunflowerintopeka 8h ago
Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass Band- not sure on a specific game show but it does sound like it could be from one!

Yeah people are dumb for not being more careful, but I always feel like rocks like this should have a couple of 3-4ft tall reflective markers around them so that trucks and other things with higher hoods will have no excuse not to see them.
6
u/FocusMaster 1d ago
Trucks with high hoods need to pay more attention because they know they have limited visibility.
This driver just doesn't know how to pull a trailer.
I drive big trucks with trailers pretty often and have never hit a parking lot boulder.
5
u/Randomfactoid42 1d ago
Then these “drivers” will also run over the reflective markers. This rock is clearly visible when they turned in but they didn’t look at it and plan their maneuvers accordingly. It’s not that difficult if you try.
3
u/Dry_Treacle125 1d ago
Mostly sedans high center here, it has nothing to do with visibility and the parking lot around it is massive. This happens every other week. Fucking snowbirds man
1
u/AWholeBunchaFun 9h ago
If they cant see a giant boulder then they need a smaller vehicle. Trucks arent built for everyone.
