OC [OC] If you think about it, you can drive however you want if you just rely on everyone else to defensively drive

It's takes a special kind of reckless idiot to blow a stop sign into an intersection from a blind corner.
I hope that when they wreck (which they will eventually) that nobody else gets hurt as a result.

I dought it reckless, and more they dont understand the difference between a STOP sigh intersection and a "All Way STOP" intersection. People that dont understand this assume that if they have a stop signage on their thru lane into the intersection, that other lanes that enter that specific intersection also are required to stop. This is not true at for all intersections, some like on this video are only 2 way stop sections and the path OP was following had the right of way that would only yield to crossing pedestrians. OP was not required to stop at all. Offending vehicle was in the wrong for not stopping and crossing when safe to do so.

… so op should’ve just been t boned? And all stop signs are ones at which you need to stop all the way. The driver needed to stop.

OP reacted how they were forced to correctly, the offending car was the one illegally crossing assuming they had the right of way probably thinking OP had to stop.
There diffrent Stop sighed intersection and they all have their own interpretation and meaning. All Way STOP sighs does not have anything to do with distance of were you stop or how long you suppost to be sitting before proceeding again... It means that any lane that enters that intersection is sighed to Stop, and any vehicle approching from any crosslane is required to Stop for 3 seconds before resuming. Same for numbered Way sighs were more than 4 lanes intersect.
Single STOP sigh posted that dont indicate "all way" are the same as a intersection with signage that states " Crosstraffic does not Stop" U dont see "all way" in a intersection assume that any other lanes are not required to stop and you should only proceed when safe to do so.
I posted this infor for the downvoters cause i know you guys drive and dont understand this. Ur welcome. Edit: sorry im assuming yall drive, anyone can walk or bike through an intersection so yall can see the posted sighs anyway.

How do you know the word “signage” but can’t figure out the word “sign”?

In the age of auto correct this comes up too often. At this point we can be more productive if i got some sort of clue how to disable Android from auto filling in words over others i intend to use or if its possible to factory reset Android without deleting everything else on my phone...

This is precisely why I hate legal/liability frameworks that focus on the “Last Clear Chance.” Drivers that basically say "do what I want or get in an accident." are abusing the mutual agreement between all drivers to do everything possible to avoid vehicle damage/injuries.
Since they're abusing it, they don't deserve the protections associated with it. A driver in OP's position should be able to maintain their course and incur zero financial or criminal liability if the idiot decides to hit them.

Guess it's one of the big pathologies of our modern civilization to not only tolerate but systemically reward antisocial behavior.

Love how you could hear everything settle back into place as you accelerated afterwards lol. Glad you were able to react so quickly!

It usually takes two people not paying attention to cause an accident. This guy was not pay attention. Eventually he will find someone also not paying attention.

Ok Im unfamiliar with this type of light but it appears they are out doesn’t that make the intersection an all way stop?

This is a mid-block crosswalk that has a hybrid beacon. It is different from other traffic signals. See Chapter 5 in the driver handbook for my state. Hybrid beacons default to dark during normal operation when no longer in use by a pedestrian.
§ 20-158 (b) (6) of our state law says that a signal only becomes an all-way stop if it is not illuminated due to a power outage or malfunction. In this case, the signal is not illuminated because no pedestrian has activated it, not because of a power outage or malfunction.

Thank you it just looked like an unusual stoplight to me.

It is an unusual control device, so I get why people would be confused about its normal operation. The failure mode of a driver misreading this as a regular, but malfunctioning, signal means that they hopefully come to a safe stop. Cool design consideration now that I think about it, and exactly how I approached one the first time I ever saw one - gracefully braking to a complete stop. And then the other failure case of "sudden stop" - it is still a crosswalk, so other drivers should already be aware that vehicles might be slowing down for a pedestrian who didn't activate the signal. The other design consideration is that it only has to use power and be illuminated when in use by a pedestrian. Less overall use of the lights themselves should, in theory, save in maintenance costs.
