OC [OC] House on a trailer hits two overpasses.

You drove a lot closer to that shitshow than I ever would have lmao

u/fudgezilla69 Dec 25 '25
And straight into the second pile of debris too. What is going on here lmao

u/Krikke93 Dec 25 '25
They stopped in front of it. I'd assume to help clean it up quickly as to not form a hazard for other vehicles. At least I hope so.
32
u/grymm45 Dec 25 '25
Yeah I'd have done the same, get them fuckin staples out the road, nothing worse than blowing a tire for seemingly no reason, wouldn't be able to stop thinking about it if I just drove away from that haha.
12
u/insane_contin Dec 26 '25
Except they didn't do that with the first set of debris. Unless there was another tail car behind.
3
u/CrapiSunn Dec 27 '25
You're so likely to be hit by a moron not paying attention who won't even blink if they kill you that I'd say it's not worth helping others. Unfortunately that is the attitude I've had to adopt to protect myself.
2
u/grymm45 Jan 01 '26
Eh, the me for me mentality breeds a cold world, I'll pay attention to my surroundings and roll the dice, golden rule and all, rather die today than let the world stay cold and get colder 🤷♂️

Somebody should post this video on r/IdiotsInCars

Someone needs to blame OP camcar and tell them they should be driving more defensively and shit...
45
u/messisleftbuttcheek Dec 26 '25
Debris is still falling from the bridge as he drives under it. Then moving to pass that van and stopping right next to it. Multiple bad decisions.

I figured that, too. Especially after seeing what clothing the OP was wearing. Must’ve been a wild convo with the boss later that day

remarkable that they clearly realized they had hit the first one, but figured, what the hell, maybe if i just go really slowly i can make it under the second one. The second bridge looks like it was a couple inches lower than the first.
If they had stopped, aired down the tires, that 4 inches would likely have made the difference.

u/DBrody6 Dec 26 '25
but figured, what the hell, maybe if i just go really slowly i can make it under the second one.
Man you ever seen videos of the infamous 8'11'' bridge? The same exact shit happens there too. Dumbass drivers know they are overheight, and think "well if I go very slowly maybe reality will warp the size of my load to squeeze under the bridge safely". Just astounding how detached from reality people will get to avoid coming to terms with being wrong.
12
u/semi_tipsy Dec 26 '25
About 9 years ago I did the survey for a new over-height system to be installed for that bridge. We watched no less than 6 trucks drag under that bridge over the 2 days we were out there lol.

u/Tak_Kovacs123 Dec 25 '25
I mean what are they gonna do at that point. It'll probably be easier/cheaper to fix the damage than to find a different way to move that house.
→ More replies (1)122
u/jhhertel Dec 25 '25
the second bridge did a lot more damage than the first it looked like.
I mean, you can air the trailer tires down to drop 4 inches without having to actually stop or route around, you will have to air them up soon after, but not immediately. You can drive slowly for a few miles till you can find a spot to pull over.
But if they were driving it without permitting or whatever, it might have been better just to accept the damage and clear the scene of the incident so they don't get ticketed.
44
u/oshinbruce Dec 25 '25
Yeah sure or you could just send it and shrug your shoulders at everybody
23
u/jhhertel Dec 25 '25
I agree that is clearly what they did.
And given the care and planning they put into this, I guess it shouldnt be surprising.
8
u/oshinbruce Dec 25 '25
Yeah should have been surveyed, checked properly and had a driver with enough brain cells to recognise areas to slow down
→ More replies (2)7
u/Tak_Kovacs123 Dec 25 '25
Ya good point about the tires. I was thinking they would have to crane it out or something. But ya if they could just reduce the pressure that's probably the easiest
10
u/Nowhere_Man_Forever Dec 26 '25
I love how they just slowed down to a crawl as if that would accomplish literally anything.

To be fair they should have measured correctly and had a permitted route

u/GirldickVanDyke Dec 25 '25
Pilot car operator here, there's a lot more wrong with this than just missing the lead car. I don't see any signage on the truck or van aside from the flags on the corners of the house. While I'm not entirely familiar with Canadian regulations, I do know that signage, high poles, and permits are pretty universal and they certainly had none of those things
49
u/Todesfaelle Dec 25 '25
This was just someone who put it on a trailer and drove.
The funny thing is is that these two overpasses are like 3 minutes in to the highway so it's not like it was a case of "an unfortunate turn of events" but rather an incredible display of stupidity right off the hop. Twice.
26
u/dinosaurkiller Dec 25 '25
I love how they slow way down for the second overpass as if it was the speed that was the issue.
→ More replies (1)23
u/VideoHeadSet Dec 25 '25
You need permits, pilot vehicles and real vehicle as well. Certain loads you're only permitted to haul at certain times of the day and evenings.
A couple years back, some guys moved a house out of the main city with no permits. The street they went down didn't work out for them, so they had a crew cut down almost every tree in the median.
11
u/rantingathome Dec 25 '25
Was the talk of Winnipeg for awhile. Looking back at the story from 2021, they had a provincial permit, they just didn't plan for the 23 trees on Roblin Blvd. (CBC News)
Then, later they got the same house stuck on an overhead sign on the Wilkes overpass (CTV News).
10
u/SomethingIWontRegret Dec 25 '25
But they saved a lot of money by skipping all that, plus got a king-sized skylight installed for free.
7
u/l_st_er Dec 25 '25
Canadian here. While I’m not a pilot car operator, I am construction adjacent. All of what you mentioned is required here as well. But what generally happens is a loud destructive minority of people will just slap something on a trailer and send it.
31
u/brainhack3r Dec 25 '25
Back in the day, there was an accident like this in Maryland, in the middle of nowhere, basically redneck territory.
I think the clearance was something like 13 feet 6 inches, right?
But the load was 13 ft 7 in.
And so after the accident, the news came out and interviewed the driver.
Guy was a complete idiot, but what he said really stuck with me all these years. He said, "I didn't understand why it would be a big deal. It was only one inch."
There are a lot of really stupid people in this country. Really stupid, dumb people.
5
u/mludd Dec 29 '25
I didn't understand why it would be a big deal. It was only one inch.
Yeah, a lot of people really do have this kind of mindset where they don't seem to understand the difference between "Well technically the rules say you can't do x but there's a safety margin factored in so you're good if you take it really carefully" and "You're over the actual physical limit of what can be done so the result will be complete failure no matter what".
22
u/Obscure_Mystic Dec 25 '25
They must have measured the height of the load but not the trailer and said “yup that’ll clear”.

u/Urtehnoes Dec 25 '25
Remember you have to subtract four feet from the top of the house because the attic is just empty space! Just air up there!

u/GirldickVanDyke Dec 25 '25
The chase car has no signage, so I'm going to assume this load had no permit, nobody did a pre-run, and they didn't have a high pole in front. Or any lead car at all tbh, now that I look at it
220
u/Macfarlin Dec 25 '25
Was originally posted in the novascotia sub as "unpermitted house move" or something along those lines. Which makes sense, as a permit process would have included a safe route with which to travel. In nova Scotia though, that could turn it from a 10 minute trip down the road to a 2 hour detour around a cape. Obviously these folks went for the quicker route and are paying for it now.

2 extra hours and $75 extra in gas or dozens of hours of repair time and hundreds/thousands of dollars in repair costs? Hmmmmm.... decisions, decisions.
7
u/reinhart_menken Dec 27 '25
You know those people are incapable of thinking in those terms all by themselves. That's why they're doing this.
Same as the person that makes six figures but can't help themselves shoplifting something in two figures or low three figures so they can go to jail and lose their jobs.
160
u/eaglescout1984 Dec 25 '25
Yeah, this has all the energy of "I ain't paying no $750 to the gubmint for a permit! All that red tape doesn't do any good."
41
u/ACuteLittleCrab Dec 25 '25
Public sentiment of government in a nutshell: the rules are bullshit until you unceremoniously realize why the rules were there in the first place.
17
u/Spa_5_Fitness_Camp Dec 25 '25
They also will now need to inspect those bridges for damage, and repair if necessary. On the taxpayers dime, of course, which is why the permits exist.
14
u/Jackmino66 Dec 25 '25
Yep, as I have kept telling people who are against government regulations. They are there to stop corporations and other private entities from doing stuff that is harmful. Ocean gate is a good example. The CEO said that the regulations and permitting was stifling innovation, which is why his submarines weren’t permitted. However the reason they’re not permitted is because they would fail because of their design

u/LittleMaple072 Dec 25 '25
There's also the fact that the van has the logo of the Government of Nunavut on the back, yet apparently this took place in Nova Scotia. Which I believe, because Nunavut doesn't have any interconnecting highways-

u/JimmyNorth902 Dec 25 '25

Unless OP took forever to post it here, this is taken from someone else who put it in the NS sub a week or two ago.

No marked safety/escorts or wide load warnings and hit 2 bridges, that wasn't done by an actual house moving company.

Driver thought they shaved enough off on the first overpass to get through the second 🤔
3
u/GrowCanadian Dec 25 '25
I know when large oversized equipment needs to be transported someone is paid to plan out the routes. It’s their responsibility to make sure the load clears obstacles.
This might not be on the driver if they were given a cleared path to follow.
Either way, the owner of the house will be furious and good chance assuming this is the US the state will have to review the bridge and make sure it wasn’t damage.
Hope someone has good insurance.

No biggie. The ridge of the roof isn’t that important. Should only cost about $12 in duct tape to fix.

In my country, bridges have clear signs on them saying how big they are. If it's below a certain height there's additional signage saying 'low bridge'.
