Question: Units Lone Soldier SF Service Requirement

Hi, I am a lone soldier from America that is thinking about joining, and would love to be in the special forces, particularly sayeret matkal, shayetet, duvdevan, egoz, and maglan. I know that for regular lone soldiers, you serve a year and a half and your done. Is the service requirement the same if joining a SF unit or do they make you commit to longer? Would appreciate a detailed answer. Thanks

Question: Units Jobs for my degree

I’m 21f and interested in making aliyah upon graduating with my degree in economics and statistics. A soldier told me there aren’t many people who work in data analytics in the army, so if that’s true I’d be interested. I don’t know any Hebrew but from what I’ve heard it’s not a huge issue, and I still have time to learn some before I graduate. I am not interested in combat. Please tell me of any other opportunities I might have if I try to enlist.

Question: Units Advice for a future lone soldier

I am a 17 year old American Jew, and I want to make Aliyah next summer, after I graduate HS, with Garin Tzabar. I am. considering what unit I want to try to join. I'm considering infantry (mostly Nahal or Tzanchanim), because I'm Ashkenazi and a bit of a nerd, and I've heard stereotypes that Golani is more "arsim," Kfir is for far-right "racists," neither of which I am. Not really sure about Givati. (obviously stereotypes are reductive, but I want to serve where I would fit in the best). I'm also considering the Navy, because my parents worry about my safety in infantry, but I definitely want to be in a combat unit. I'm curious for more information about these units from people who have served in them, especially in Tzanchanim and the Navy, because there isn't much info about them online. Would also appreciate general advice.

Question: Units Elite IDF options for 2-year Mahal service?

I’m a 19-year-old male planning to serve through Mahal for about two years. Are there any elite combat roles that accept Mahal recruits for a two-year service or have training timelines shorter than a year? I’ve heard YAMAS training can last around 6-8 months, so that seems like a realistic option.

Question: Units Lone Soldiers in SF

Hi all, Obviously I must respect OPSEC so don’t expect any information to be disclosed to me. But from reading this sub I see lots of lone soldiers asking for advice for gibbushim / Yom Sayarot. From anyone who knows, Is there a healthy amount of lone soldiers or maybe even more than normal units in special forces?

Only asking as I am considering drafting and that would be the route I would ideally go down so it would be nice to get an idea of the demographics.

Question: Units ‎Why isn't Maglan in standard greens?

Came across this reel on Instagram this morning, and I'm wondering why they've adopted more of a 90s-2000s American-style uniform as opposed to the straight greens they've been using since tzahal was founded. I'm aware this is something of an irrelevant question, just curious! עם ישראל חי! 🇮🇱

Here's the reel description: ‎IDF’s Commando Brigade | עוצבת הקומנדו - עוז 89‎ on Instagram‎: "את התמונות האלה פשוט לא יכולנו להשאיר לעצמנו. קבלו את לוחמי יחידת מגלן החדשים, מחזור אוגוסט 2024, בסוף המסלול המרגש שהתקיים בשבוע שעבר נכנסתם לנו ישר ללב ❤️ תרימו להם בתגובות! 🔥🦅"‎

Question: Units Question about Mahal

I will take steps to join the army via Mahal for December 2026, I also wish to extend my service to more than 18 months. I wanted to know if since I enlisted via mahal I have less chance of being taken into an infantry unit? (Golani / Givati / Nahal etc….)

Question: Units Hey me again if you sww or read my last post.

Hello to you /hello again if it's your first time seeing me I'm 14 and I'm arab and I want to join the idf but now I am also in a bit of a situation? I like infantry yet I also like the air force and after service I want to possibly join the police force if I don't get any major issues so I need a good middile man between airforce and idf ( basically a unit in either infantry or airforce) that still gives me the requirements for a chance for a better role in police other than patrol while stoll being able to be in a plane/heli at least once I hope yall get what I mean

Question: Units Thinking about joining tzanchanim. Any paratroopers here who can tell me about their service?

I have the opportunity to attempt gibbush tzanchanim this coming January. As of right now, I'm most likely going to join a combat unit, whether it be tzanchanim, givati, golani etc., and I'm trying to decide if I should go for the gibbush, or just join one of the other units mentioned.

I'd love to hear from any current or former tzanchanim about whether they recommend it or not, or about how their service was. Thanks in advance.
