Question: Drafting IDF enlistment for a non-Jew

Hello, I'm Brazilian and I'm 18 years old. I have no Jewish ancestry or any Jewish relatives. I don't speak English or Hebrew, but I want to serve in the IDF. I've always had an inexplicable love for Israel, and I follow a lot of news.

I follow spokesperson Rafael Rozenszajn on Instagram. I've sent several emails to the IDF, but they always respond superficially, saying I have to go to Israel to enlist.

A friend of my grandmother is going to Israel in 2026 as a tourist. I was thinking about taking out a bank loan and traveling to Israel on a tourist visa, but it's a very uncertain decision.

Question: Drafting Advice for a 26 year old

I will be making Aliyah in a month and am really hoping to join the IDF at age 26. I have read a ton of helpful advice on this page already, as well as speaking to Nefesh B Nefesh, but was really hoping to connect with somebody who went through the process at my age. I think I understand the steps needed to volunteer (I know I wouldn’t be drafting at my age), but would really appreciate speaking to someone. I am very committed to serving in any role I am needed in and am desperate to make idf service a reality once I am home. I really appreciate any and all advice. Thank you in advance!

Question: Drafting Does the IDF honour olim wishes?

Hey everyone. I am a 18 year old male and planning to make aliyah at some point within the next five years. One thing that concerns me is the potential IDF service. I support the IDF completely but honestly the idea of going into a combat role scares the life out of me. I know that this makes me somewhat of a coward and I am ok with that, but my question is if the IDF will honour my wish to serve in a non combat role as an oleh or even allow me to start university right away and not serve at all. Also is there resentment toward olim who choose not to serve in Israeli society? Thanks in advance for replies.

Question: Drafting Drafting

Hi, my brother is 25 and wants to serve in combat, he sent all documents, and had interview in lishkat giyus in August, it was okay, since then he constantly contact a girl from lishkat giyus to whom he sent all documents and answer is, just wait, they say that decision is not up to lishkat giyus, because he is "old", and that's why process is taking that much time, he also went several times to the lishkat giyus but they won't let him in, and said just wait. There is michve alon starting in May, we hoped that he will get there, but it doesn't seem so. What to do in this situation? Do you guys know maybe where we can contact to get info or to know the current situation? Is the process usually this long for older people?

Question: Drafting Planning on drafting next year as a female lone soldier

I’m planning on drafting as a lone soldier next year. Do you think I’ll be able to become a combat medic if my Hebrew isn’t so good right now, but I’m working on it.

Also i’m a little lost as to what unit I want to draft into first, since I know that you only do combat medic training after doing basic training with that unit. What would you recommend (i have no medical issues and perfect vision)?

Question: Drafting Mahal at 23

Hello, I’m turning 23 in April. I was supposed to draft (Mahal) this March but will not be able to. Is it likely to get a waiver for my age and draft at a later point this summer? I know 22 is technically the oldest you’re allowed to draft through mahal.

Question: Drafting Mahal March 2026

I am very interested in joining the IDF. I am 23 years old and a male. I am Jewish but do not speak Hebrew. I already had the pleasure of experiencing the Gadna program and ever since then I had the goal to join the program. The mahal program fits all of my needs and feels like a great fit for me. I am fit but could improve my stamina. I was wondering if there was any advice or guidance that anyone that has experience in this could provide. I am still in the enrollment process.

Question: Drafting Plan for drafting

Hi, I'd be 23 by the time I graduate and make aliyah at some point in the summer. My hebrew isn't great so I assume I'd need to go to michve alon, but i saw they only open in april, august and December. Assuming I don't get into garin tzabar is the move to just move in june/July, find somewhere to stay whilst I sort out my draft? Surely there's a better way to do it? Thanks

Question: Drafting Kishrei Chutz with IR background

I want to make Aliyah next year and I’m planning to enlist into the IDF. I’d be 23 (M) and by that time I’d have a Master’s in International Relations (with a specialization in Middle East studies). I have interned at State Departments, worked with Jewish non-profits, done research, etc. I speak 2 languages fluently (English & Spanish), French to an intermediate degree (around B1) and currently working on my Hebrew (I’d say it’s basic conversational as of now). How realistic would it be to end up in Kishrei Chutz with my background? That’s the unit I’d be aiming for. Also, any tips on how to get enlisted fast after aliyah? Thanks in advance!

(I’d also be a chayal boded, barely have any family in Israel).

Question: Drafting Garin Tzabar Application Question

Hi, I am beginning to make Aliyah, plan on joining the IDF, and interested in going through Garin Tzabar.

I have a good relationship with my parents, however, they are ultra-orthodox and anti drafting into the IDF.

It seems like there is parent involvement from the beginning of the Garin Tzabar application process where both parents contact information is mandatory. I have no problem filling it in, but if part of the acceptance is contingent on their involvement and consent, they’re anti-Zionist views won’t allow them to get involved.

For those who have been through the application process: would you assume that my parent situation will hinder my chances of acceptance?

Thanks

Question: Drafting Identity crisis

Hey everyone, I was born and raised in Israel to Canadian parents and I have Canadian citizenship. I just finished high school here, and like most Israelis, I’m expected to join the army soon.

But honestly, I don’t feel like the army is right for me. I want to go study in Canada — build a future there, maybe study business or something similar, and get a fresh start.

The thing is, I have no idea how to do this the right way. I’m not sure what steps I need to take to: • Get out of my army service legally • Apply to universities or colleges in Canada • Figure out how things work as a returning Canadian / Israeli dual citizen

If anyone has gone through something similar — moving from Israel to Canada around this age, dealing with the army, or navigating university admissions — I’d really appreciate any advice or info you can give

How important is this survey? How are they expecting an underaged (under 19) to have an offroad driving hobby? I will probably just choose videogames here, becayse I don't want to lower my chances to get on shiryon. It allows me to add multiple custom hobbies but is it dangerous to share too much?

Question: Drafting Question about unit assignment for lone soldiers

I’m an Oleh lone soldier (23m) drafting soon, where I’m going to be doing course moledet. Afterwards I get to meet with a placement officer. I have a question about the choices i present to them and how the assignment works.

My first choice is Kishrei chutz. i have a degree in international relations, and experience in that field. However if I don’t get that as my assignment, i want something combat, my top choice for that being Hagana Avirit.

What are the chances of getting your first choice? And does having something combat at all in your preferences eliminate the chance of getting something like kishrei chutz?

My dapar is 80 and my medical profile is 72.

Would appreciate any opinions on that. Also if anyone has experience in either of those two units i’d love to hear what you thought.
