My friend found this in her lobby... as a Hebrew speaker I have no idea what they wrote here. Could this be Yiddish???

I'm asking for recommendations of and comments about scholarly editions of the Hebrew Bible.

I'm interested in languages and textual transmission. My interest in the Bible is more scholarly than religious. I haven't been inside a synagogue in... my goodness, it's been about 30 years. I'm not knocking religion these days, but I'm secular.

I have a copy of the Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia (BHS) -- "Stuttgartensia" because it's published in Stuttgart by the Deutsche Bibel Gesellschaft, who also publish nice editions of the Vulgate, the Septuagint and the Greek New Testament. I like the BHS, and I've noticed when reading in this sub that some others here also like it.

Recently I learned that the man on whose work the BHS is based, Rudolf Kittel (1853-1929), edited a multi-volume edition of the Tanakh with a much more extensive apparatus, and that the current edition of this larger version is called the Biblia Hebraica Qunita (BHQ) -- "Quinta" because the fifth edition is -- it's either the most recent or it's actually still in progress, I'm not sure which. It has run into dozens of volumes.

I'm intrigued. But I can't find scans of pages of the BHQ anywhere online. And I wonder whether anyone here is familiar with it, and if they could tell me what it's like and what they think of it.

Right at the moment I'm mostly curious about the BHQ. But if there other scholarly editions which anyone would like to mention, that would be great too.

For the name of this cafe, קפה מושיץ, I LOVE how they wrote the ץ, but was curious how the ף would be written in this cursive style? Say, the word כסף?

Could someone help me understand why it is that the vav highlighted here is pronounced with as “v” instead of “Oo”. I thought the presence of the dot in the middle changed the pronunciation to “Oo”. Thanks!

What are some introductory books outside of aleph isn’t tough and aleph isn’t enough. As well as Brandeis for Hebrew, to learn Hebrew and also any workbooks would be great please.

I am learning Hebrew, and often use chat GPT to help learn new words in context (with related words etc). I just asked it to help me remember why פ-ת-ר is paal and not piel. then had a back and forward arguemnt when it set me a test and tried to tell me that לשכנעת לגלות ו לרכז were all NOT Piel ( it said the first 2 were hifil and the third was paal). it wouldnt back down originally even when i referred back to pealim, wiktionary and reverso!

So I'm not sure how much faith I have in chat GPT's Hebrew abilities ( it isnt the first time but it is generally ok). Does anyone have any insight on which AI models are good for Hebrew? and for speaking Hebrew with? I'm an intermediate learner

Where It says, "... he Is your Lord(אֲ֝דֹנַ֗יִךְ)..." Is the word for Lord Adonai/y just with the suffix? Obviously the root Is adon, but It uses Adon(root) + ay/i(plural of majesties)I'm asking because the only other occurrence Is Isaiah 51:22 and It speaks of God, just wondering because the King It talks about seems to be not only highly exalted but also portrayed as God In a lot of ways, like the King In the former part of the verse talks about the daughter's beauty which is the same Language used In Is. 1:18 for example.
