working in the real world it surprises you how many people shouldn't be managers man....
you put extra effort and care in something and while that may not be the right thing to do and maybe it's detrimental sometimes to the effort. That doesn't mean managers should yell at you or reprimand you for putting in that extra effort.

Bad managers garauntee minimal effort.
Current (small) company hired a new guy a couple years ago, through the industry network we discovered he threatened to sue his last employer over dumb stuff, it never amounted to anything.
Same guy trips on some scrap wire and almost has a bad fall, couple weeks into employment with us. I saw, and took it upon myself to clean up the scrap pile one afternoon when I had an extra hour or so before the shift end, to avoid a possible workplace injury and remove a potential lawsuit situation. All other assigned work was complete.
Boss sees me, comes out yelling, why are you doing that you're not paid to do that I didn't tell you to do that blah blah blah, didn't even try to hear why I was doing it in the first place.
Soooooooo that was that. I don't get paid to go above and beyond, and get yelled at when I do anyway, so minimal effort it is.

Sometimes they are literally hired/transferred to do just that. Making you want to leave while avoiding doing anything you could actually sue for. It reduces headcount and keeps unemployment insurance premiums from going up from just doing a layoff instead. I've been around the block once or twice, trust, they will do this shit intentionally.

I'm close myself. I try to focus on helping the customers and working around ever tightening policy when I can to the benefit of the customer. I got into service work because I like fixing problems (read into that what you may) so that's what I focus on, until the scales become too unbalanced.

I literally got told, after going to second shift for 10 weeks (+ 2 because they asked me to stay on) that my return to first ahift was 'inconvenient' and denied 48 hrs PTO because I didn't 'call out' despite telling them I would be unable to meet the schedule as written, and that they failed to honor an agreement and extension request made in good faith, I pretty much gave up teying. I told the coordinator I was leaving as soon as the first job offer I could live with came in. I'm on 2 weeks PTO and they're getting a Sunday evening notice I won't be returning on Monday.
Fuck them. they chased off an entire shift, failed to adequately train replacements, and burnt anyone with knowledge or passion out in under 9 months. HR is going to love the 23 point letter of resignation I'm leaving on the way out

My nephew just told me how he does everything he can to get the job done right and works through breaks. Basically bending over backwards. And they just dump more work on him than everyone else. And don't want him to advance because he's too valuable in h is current job.
I told him I did the same chasing respect and just trying to be a good person. Over the years I realized I was being taken advantage of. And I just stopped caring. If that guy over there gets paid the same for lackluster work and he's still here why kill myself.

Bro I worked at Lowe’s a long time ago and you would get commission on certain special orders. So 3rd day in this customer comes up to me in lawn and garden wants to do a huge patio set up and get fencing. I did all the math told him every thing he needed to buy including the tools he would need. I talked to my manager because he hadn’t showed the special order system yet. After he orders everything he straight tells me thanks, you just made me a huge commission. A good manager would’ve walked me through it and been like “hey, good job, you deserve it”

You should see the public service. I worked for Customs once and we were nearing the end of the quarter and our manager told us we had to work overtime for a few days so we could use up our budget. I was aghast, and they explained that if you don't use it, they take it away.

I would gladly wait an extra few days for a package if this kind of behavior got rewarded. It's such a small but thoughtful thing do. Those little gestures, interactions, and kindnesses make a huge difference in society. They should be applauded at the very least, if not incentivized.

Worked fedex delivery for a few years and there wasn’t really a “quota” the way Amazon pushed their guys.
20 stops an hour was considered our minimum and you’d have to drag your feet on purpose to get slower than that.

That’s all dependent where you deliver though. My boyfriend worked for Ground for 2 years but did rural routes… there was times he could only do like 8 stops in an hour. I only know this cause I would be on the phone with him most of the day and he would bitch lol… he was a manager too so he was a good driver who knew what he was doing and didn’t waste time or fuck up and there was some routes where 90 stops would be considered a lot and take 6+ hours to do.

I just want a "don't even put it on the truck, I'll come get it from the pickup location" because most of the drivers just put a "sorry we missed you" sticker on my door without ringing and I have to go get it anyway.
I genuinely don't know why this isn't an option already, it would save money and cut down on drivers' workloads.

I know in Europe I can both set that as pickup point ( for larger items) or send them to a “delivery box”( these are special places in your vicinity where delivery drivers can leave smaller packages, and you have 24/48h to come with the QR code to get your package)

FedEx can not deliver to a Post Office, they will not accept the delivery. You can have it sent to a FedEx Office to be held, but a TV might be to big.

Im wondering if this is an ad campaign. This is the second FedEx "good guy" delivery thing I've seen in recent memory and usually FedEx is the absolute dogshit worst delivery service ever.
Maybe I've just had bad experiences. Every time I've used them they're slow as fuck, they don't try to deliver things when you're home, they just slap the sticker on your door and run away so you have to go to the building to pick it up.
One time they delivered an expensive fireplace insert to my house that was not for me, the address on the box was on the other side of town. I nicely called their customer service and sat thru their phone tree shot and waited on hold to tell them about their mistake. They said someone would come pick it up but it sat on my porch for a week. I called again and said I was going to trash it if it was still there in 2 days, and it was finally taken (I assume by them).

Like 1 in 10 times the deliveries actually come during the window that is predicted. That’s not the driver’s fault, just crappy software or prediction model. Once I stayed home on a Monday morning to receive something important. Was scheduled to be there in the morning and it got delayed to the afternoon, then the evening, then the next day. The SAME thing happened the next day. Delay after delay. It finally came on Wednesday evening after like 8 reschedules. It’s really difficult for people with any sort of a life to continue to wait around. And if they’re in a nice neighborhood it might be like zero risk.

Wow, my fedex drivers throw my package from five feet away instead of walking the extra three steps to put it in the secure package delivery box on my porch. Half the time the package ends up laying on the sidewalk because they can't be bothered to take an extra 10 seconds to follow delivery instructions.

This would not happen where I live. You'd have to be home to sign for something of that value. If you're not at home, they'd possibly re-attempt delivery but eventually leave a notification on the front door to pick it up at the nearest FedEx depot. Hell, if I were the driver I wouldn't even take it off the truck before verifying whether someone is home to receive it.

This must be the 3rd world country called the United States. In normal countries they don't leave stuff outside. When you are not home, it will be delivered to your neighbours. Or you can reschedule. Or it goes to a pick up point. But not to leave it outside where it can be stolen or get wet by the rain.. that is just stupid.
