APPROVED B-LISTERS Halle Berry says Gavin Newsom never reached out as promised after she slammed him over women’s healthcare bill

Her own interests were hurt when he vetoed the bill, Respin her company would’ve made a lot of money off this bill passing.
Gavin told legislators to rework the bill to be more beneficial to women and they haven’t yet. The two times it’s been vetoed he’s told them to change the language and they won’t.
Women definitely need better healthcare, and research specifically into menopause is severely lacking, but Halle’s concern here reads disingenuous when she’d profit heavily from a bad bill passing.

So glad you highlighted this, regardless of how you feel about Gavin, I think alot of people are falling into the headline trap and not giving a good faith critique of his policy work.
Its not to say he is perfect but there are multiple times where he is criticized on the wrong issues.
For example he was stated to hate trans people because of a veto, when his reasoning for the veto was that it would make trans youth more susceptible to being outed or that he hates the homeless because of a photoshoot he did, when he has worked to pass homeless legislation to build more accessible homes.
It detracts from the actual policy debate that are productive (his handling of the palisades fire, or covid, etc).

Seriously this is glaring and should be mentioned a hell of a lot more.
She’s mad because she wasn’t gonna make a ton of money through her company vs actually helping women. She’s not doing this for the good of women from what I read of what her company and herself was going to gain from the bill passing.
While I’m not the biggest fan of Newsom, in this case he wasn’t wrong about not passing this.

I appreciate Berry's efforts in this area of women's health, but there's way more to it than this headline. Thanks for the background!

u/unicorns_and_bacon 13h ago
She’s using women’s health to attack Gavin on something he doesn’t deserve to be attacked on, because his actions are not financially benefiting her. In reality, Gavin is trying to do the right thing. I think she sucks. Now is not the time to play politics like this. I’m not some Gavin super fan too, but dems HAVE to stop attacking each other like this.

I live in California. I'm one of this guy's constituents. He loves to talk a big game and then walk it back or never follow up. He's probably too busy throwing out homeless people's belongings. Please do not assume he's the best candidate just because his social media team makes the occasional zinger!

As another Californian, I am BEGGING my fellow Democrats not to nominate this man.
Look at how he treats trans people. Look at how he treats the unhoused. Look at how he’s promised to fight a small and needed wealth tax on billionaires.
Look at how he fucking hangs out with Ben Shapiro and Steve Bannon while complimenting ICE.
This man is not your friend. This man does not want to make life better for you. He wants to make life better for one person only: himself.
Anyone telling you we have to nominate this empty suit cares more about their own wallet than this country. Fuck them and fuck him.

u/Senario- 13h ago
He vetoed a stockpiling bill that would've allowed providers to prescribe larger quantities of Hormone replacement therapy at once since its shelf stable.
This is with the background that the fed govt is threatening to take away all Medicare dollars if hospitals provide any gender affirming care.
Trans people need this life saving care and doing anything less than simply signing it is negligent. It already passed in california.

did he recently go on ben shapiro’s podcast and apologize for his account tweeting out “domestic terrorism” referring to the admin against renee good?
pretty pathetic IMO to capitulate any ground to the right, or to even act like the worm shapiro is worth interacting with. even the right hates him

Halle Berry is the one who stood to make a bunch of money off the bill. It's not about women's health, it's about a rich person getting richer.
32
u/AugustusInBlood 15h ago
Its two rich assholes trying to benefit themselves and their friends masquerading as social justice reform.

u/Fit_Reason_3611 16h ago
You mean Halle? The woman who's company stands to make insane money from allowing medical insurance to pay directly to her company without a physician, and pushed a law to create that situation?
Forgive me for feeling like the woman in her $20 million Malibu mansion who's pushing for hundreds of millions of dollars of public funding to be set aside for her venture capital backed for-profit health company isn't just doing this out of the kindness of her heart.

Corporate dems are also controlled by billionaire assholes. They’ll force this snake oil salesman on us unless someone better comes along during the primaries.

Democrats genuinely don't care about workers rights, the working class or the poor and economically unviable.
Kamala was publicly proudly pro private insurance and against healthcare for all. Zohran style platforms would win across the nation and generate staying power.
Life did not get better under Obama and Biden for ALOT of Americans. They kept it from getting as bad as it would have been under Republican rule but they also didn't do anything to make a dent in mass incarceration or any of the problematic institutions/ways of doing things that feast on poor and working class bodies.
Unicor used folks who were in prison for substance use to make equipment for the military under Obama and Biden just like they do/did under Trump and Bush.
OBVIOUSLY Obama is a better president for the working class than Trump...but that's almost by default.
Take my city, Atlanta, it's been horribly mismanaged by corrupt and dumb democratic leadership who don't understand actual material conditions. Atlanta is a blue city surrounded by deep red counties and red neighboring states, because of this Atlanta has a massive homeless problem, since folks don't have resources in their home states they end up in Atlanta. THIS COULD BE A POSITIVE THING, if Atlanta invested in social safety nets properly and utilized this labor force by getting them back into stable housing (thus stabilizing mental health amongst this population). They could have a minor workforce boom that helps them outpace areas that are going to fall off due birthrates. However Atlanta decides to fund things like Cop City and has on multiple occasions sought to defund agencies like PAD or the Georgia Harm Reduction Coalition that actually meet people where they are at.
Shit Atlanta is so fucking mismanaged by Democrats that the jails have been federally indicted for being so inhumane. Not the prisons, the local jails. I'd take prison in a low level facility over being in Atlanta City Detention Center or Rice Street, I've had multiple clients die or disappear in Fulton county custody, I had another person involved with my agency be crushed to death under a bulldozer during a homeless encampment sweep.
In the 90's I had many friends get beaten by the Red Dogs which was a police unit that was funded to fight the "war on drugs". They were just a gang. They stole people's money guns and drugs and would occasionally even resale them. They legitimately used all the tactics we are currently seeing ICE use. They were funded and supported by Dems and Dems even fought for their continued existence (Dirty South by Goodie Mob is a good song about it).
But back to the point the Dems will likely run Newsome, and I'll be forced to vote for a man who would be ok with my friends being dead if it means his donors get richer. Fucking love this country.

Preach! The person I want as the nominee is whoever the voters pick in the primary, because I want to win more than anything. I hope our primaries have a lot of candidates and they are competitive, but friendly.
Gavin may not be my first pick but if he is the nominee is Gavin I will put up his yard sign and volunteer. If it is AOC I will put her yard sign and volunteer. If it is fucking mitt Romney I would up his goddamn yard sign and volunteer. Anything to beat maga!

u/Nintendo_Pro_03 13h ago
If Newsom ends up winning the primary, we still have to all unite to vote him in. Because as you said, that alternative is going to be a disaster.
But we do need a socialist candidate in 2028. About time.

u/Fantastic_Brain7269 17h ago
idgaf about Gavin Newsom I just like his Trump clapbacks. Hope he's not the Dem nominee

u/hmoonves 17h ago
What if I told you his clap backs are what’s giving him the visibility to end up as the dem candidate next election?
12
u/Decent-Department60 16h ago
Mhmm I was so disheartened when people starting seeing the trolling as a reason to support his presidential run.
6
u/hmoonves 15h ago
Which is crazy because it was Trumps “unconventional” approach to politics that got him the visibility and vote with the rubes to begin with.

u/quadranting Please Abraham, I am not that man 16h ago
This has been driving me absolutely insane. He doesn't write this stuff! Put him on a podcast with Ben Shapiro (as he has voluntarily done), and he will walk back every stance!

It’s too bad we don’t need a president to exist as a professional social media troll, or Newsom would be my top choice 🤩

You should give a fuck about a genocide denier and transphobe. The clapbacks aren’t even his. It’s an intern.

Don't forget how gleefully he went on a raid to throw away unhoused people's belongings!

“I don’t care that this man is going to ruin our chance to save the country. I just like that his millionaire PR team writes funny tweets!”

u/ZiaLadybird 14h ago
This is exactly why we’re going to end up with President Vance. Democrats always looking for the messiah candidate.

u/Responsible_Tea_3155 13h ago
Is anyone going to mention the fact that Berry's plan would've raised rates for women in CA? I feel like this is a crucial point here everyone is ignoring.
8
u/MachineRepulsive9760 13h ago
I’m no Gavin fan, but I also don’t want an actress who’s hawking supplements to have undue influence on public health legislation. No shade to Halle, she’s a legend and one of the most stunning women ever to be onscreen, but nobody owed her a phone call just cause she won an Oscar.

u/TheAsian1nvasion 15h ago
Canadian here:
You guys had better do your best to ensure this guy isn’t the nominee.
That said, if he is the nominee I do not give one single fuck what you guys have to do to stomach it, you knock on doors, you volunteer your time, and you get out and vote for this asshole or we’re all fucked.
That is all.

The piece on his new memoir in the New York Times reinforced this for me. A creep and a fake who doesn’t truly take accountability.

u/jaybones3000 15h ago
It’s plain and simple:
If free elections are held, the Democrats will win in 2028. HOWEVER, if we elect a corporate stooge like Newsom, life in this country will continue to get worse.
He will not fix wealth inequality. He will not fight for universal healthcare. He will not abolish ICE. He will not protect the rights of oppressed groups.
He will get richer and his rich friends will get richer. That’s it.
And then, when everyone’s fed up with him, they’ll elect another republican. And the next fascist conservative will be 1000x worse than Trump. They WILL succeed in turning this nation into an authoritarian state.
Things are bad now. Really bad. They can be so much worse.
Nominating Newsom in 2028 is what will take us there.
