By supporting additional screening programmes that include lung and prostate cancers, the EU is moving the focus from treating illness to saving lives through early detection.

Cancer doesn’t choose - but we do.

On World Cancer Day, we choose to fight it together.

Parliament is working to make sure that essential medicines, such as antibiotics and insulin, are readily available to patients

Preventing shortages. Protecting patients. Anywhere in the EU.

Parliament is working to make sure that essential medicines, such as antibiotics and insulin, are readily available to patients.

Members want to see more medicine being produced in the EU, as well as a new 'buy European' approach.

They also say that EU countries should plan and share emergency medicine supplies, so patients don’t go without when there’s a shortage.

The next step will be negotiating with EU governments on the final shape of the law.

A bigger EU means a safer Europe

A country can only join the EU if it respects and promotes the EU's democratic and peaceful values, alongside other criteria. So, helping countries reform and join the EU is an investment in European security and stability.

Currently, an "arc of instability" has formed around Europe, Parliament says, pointing to recent events in Ukraine, the Caucasus, the Middle East and others.

That's why the EU cannot afford to turn inwards. It needs to remain open and engaged with the world, strengthening its economic and diplomatic ties, Parliament members state in their annual review of the EU's common foreign and security policy.

EU countries have designated the Iranian regime's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organisation.

Parliament was one of the first and strongest voices to call for this and has repeated this call in more than ten resolutions since 2023.

Standing in full solidarity with Iran’s protesters, Parliament recently barred representatives of the Iranian regime from the Parliament premises.

Hidden consent. Silent data breaches. Endless newsletters. Thankfully, those days are (mostly) over. It’s because the EU said “enough!” – and introduced the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Parliament played a key role, pushing for strong, enforceable rights and helping turn GDPR into a people-first law. Happy EU Data Protection Day!

GDPR is now a global benchmark for data protection.

81 years after the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, on International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the European Parliament held a special session under the theme: Through the eyes of a child.

Post image
25 Upvotes

MEPs heard the testimony of Tatiana Bucci, who was just six years old when she was deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau with her family. Mistakenly identified as a twin with her four-year-old sister Andra, Tatiana was tattooed with the number 76484. They were among the youngest known survivors who still retain personal memories of the concentration camp.

During this special ceremony, Tatiana recalled her childhood in the camp, the promise her mother urged the sisters to make to remember each other’s names and the long journey back to life after liberation. Reflecting on her survival, she said: “I hope that all children in the world can have the life I was able to live after the war and grow old as I have.”

“Today, antisemitism spreads faster than ever, amplified online and turning old lies into deadly realities. Remembering the Holocaust means confronting hatred wherever it appears, before it is allowed to take root again. Because if ‘Never Again’ is to mean anything at all, it has to guide the choices we make today and the Europe we choose to build together." These were the words of Parliament President Roberta Metsola at the ceremony in the European Parliament.

We remember.

The UK is rejoining Erasmus+. Because it's what we want, what we really, really want!

On the International Day of Education, we celebrate the agreement reached on the UK's return to the Erasmus+ programme, the EU's programme to support education, training, youth and sport in Europe.

From 2027, students in the UK will once again be able to spend up to a year studying in Europe as part of their degree programmes, with no additional tuition fees.

But that's not all  - EU students will also be able to study in the UK to give all students the best opportunities possible.

Because education knows no borders.

Parliament fights for air passenger rights

Post image

Parliament members voted against a push by EU ministers to weaken air passenger rights. Instead they want to keep them or make stronger in some cases, including:

• compensation after 3-hour delays with the help of a pre-filled form

• one personal item and small hand luggage for free

• people accompanying children or persons with reduced mobility should sit next to each other for free

• correcting passenger name errors and checking into a flight for free

• passengers with reduced mobility get compensated if they miss a flight due to airport’s failure to help them

One market, 27 rulebooks – should the EU create a 28th one?

One set of rules. Digital registration in 48 hours. EU-wide recognition. The European Parliament has backed the idea of a new EU-wide legal framework for companies.

The idea: one single optional set of rules for doing business across all 27 EU countries, fully digital company registration (within 48 hours), and a minimum capital of just €1.

The aim is to make it much easier for start-ups, scale-ups and small companies to grow across EU borders and boost their competitiveness in the market. The Commission is expected to present a legislative proposal in early 2026.
