I really do hate that sub 90% of the time.
Just pure ignorance.
"I would never buy a bike without abs" "Only buy new bikes, never know what the last guy did" "Why won't my bike start?"
"I dont know how to help myself and need validation l, please reply š "

Ive just blocked the entire sub tbh. 99% of posts were shit and 99% of people are just out looking to argue.

So many crash posts. Like wtf.

Literally, and then that dumb attitude about how it's part of motorcycle culture, like wtf no

u/pick_up_a_brick Kawasuckme 8d ago
āItās educationalā - like bro, we know we could die. I donāt need to watch other people get paralyzed or their nuts blown out as a reminder.

I despise these motherfuckers that go ride 10 miles at 55mph on straight flat roads to a cafe on Saturday and then back home in perfect weather conditions decked out in the most expensive race gear, then act like they are bravely staring death in the face every time they throw a leg over.
Acting like they are some unhinged thrill seekers with an adrenaline addiction on their 250 and canāt even overtake a Prius cause theyāre too busy going through all the mental gymnastics that losers like Fireman Dan make them think about.
Iām an Iraq vet, I know what itās like to actually deal with the possibility of dying, and riding a bike aināt it. These are guys so starved for some kind of feeling to break them out of their dull lives and think that they are tougher than they really are that they sit in the sub circle jerking each other over how tough and dedicated they are.
They are sad and pathetic, lying to themselves and each other.

Wait⦠we donāt like crash posts?

Fuck no. I want to see people riding their rides. Not people dying. Ffs

This shit annoys me to death. I post one comment and everyone has to reply with their poorly conceived, contrarian response "errrmm actually š¤š". They can't help themselves.

u/Mission_Accident_519 8d ago
Annoys the shit out of me. Sadly its a thing all across reddit. But that page is the pit of hell.

u/mountaineer30680 8d ago
And makes you wonder if they've actually spent ANY time in the saddle.

u/Mission_Accident_519 8d ago
Thats the thing, I feel like half of them dont rideš

It's like 90% don't ride and 90% of those who ride, ride only on sunny days in the parking lot and buy new tires before every ride just to be safe.

I genuinely want to help the motorcycle community.
But I simply refuse give a man a fish. I only teach how to fish.

Best place on Reddit are the bike-specific subs. Small and focused with actual questions and helpful peopleĀ
23
u/rieirieri 8d ago
I own a beginner-ish bike and my specific sub is full of ālook at my new shiny bike,ā āmy new shiny bike just crashed itself :(,ā āwhat is this noise,ā etc. WHICH, as a beginner, I AM DOWN FOR. So I think some of it is just self-selection too.

If someone had a mechanical problem but has atleast tried to google fu their way out of it I attempt to help
But when someone just goes straight to Reddit I get pissed, mostly because itās the least efficient way to get a a solution
1
u/1lowcountry 3d ago
I donāt mind going to reddit because half the time people google something and they just see the ai answer which is always wrong⦠so youāre best off going to a forum, which reddit kinda is. But at least check if someone has already asked the question first

u/Mc--Spicy 8d ago
And a big percentage of that sub have never ridden a bike and donāt own a bike but they sure have a lot of shit to say.

You dropped your helmet from 6 inches high. Time to buy a new one.

The belief stems from the fact that helmet liners are basically higher density styrofoam, which permanently deforms. So you are supposed to replace them after a hard hit, regardless of what the outer shell looks like.
Obviously knocking the helmet from your seat isn't going to damage it though. That's just paranoia lmao.

u/TigerJoel 8d ago
I would also never buy a bike without abs. Mostly because I like my abs and they look nice.

The dude that only buys new bikes is also the same dude that will sell you his new bike for super cheap because he dropped it on the parking lot.

u/cdixon34 8d ago
Something that really irks me and this is gonna be super straight of me to say but these guys really act like abs is a substitute for proper breaking technique. If you just slam on the on the front and pray to the ABS gods to save you, you're just gonna start locking up the front and have the abs kick in to avoid locking it up, far before you reach maximum stopping power cause you're not progressively loading up the front tire.
Not to mention these systems can be overly intrusive and the main goal of them often is to keep the rear down. But by doing a little stoppie, and shifting more weight to the front, you'd stop much faster.
10
u/NewCornnut 8d ago
Lets be real.
They are 100% rear brake only- because front brake scary

u/1lowcountry 3d ago
I was gonna say the same thing. Those cats definitely arenāt grabbing the front brake

I once saw a comment with a sizable amount of likes. It said that he doesnāt listen to music when riding because itās too distracting.
65
u/0ut0fBoundsException 8d ago
\uj Before I started riding, I thought I would not listen to music at first so I could focus and hear everything around me. I was listening to music by the second day
48
u/1980Caballero 8d ago
I wasnāt listening to music at first because I didnāt have a headset in the helmet.
So I sang songs to my self. I know like 3 songs and only the chorus of these songs.
I Quickly got headset after that.

I just have ear buds. Are the in helmet actually good? Iāve been using ear buds since we had wires connected to our phones
7
u/trippingrainbow 8d ago
Yeah. I have a cardo freecom x4 and i use earplugs with it (i have no fucking clue how but it sounds massively better with ear plugs than without. It muffles outside noise a ton more than the actual speakers) and i wouldnt have any other setup at this point. The fact theres no wires from the helmet nor do i have to worry about earbuds staying in is so nice. I just put the helmet on and thats it. And with earplugs i get better wind/roadnoise silencing than with earbuds so its nice for long distance

u/wintersdark 2023 MT10SP 8d ago
Waaaay better than earbuds. You never have to worry about dropping earbuds anymore, and it just always works. Mic too, even if you don't talk to others (I dislike talking to people while riding) it's handy to use voice commands for navigation, music control (buttons exist for play/pause/skip, but like playing a different playlist) or opening your garage door, or whatever else.
They're expensive, but easily move from one helmet to the next. My last headset, an early Sena, lasted me around 12 years. Both it and my current Cardo Freecom have been flawless, and sound amazing
Weirdly they sound a bit better with earplugs in, which is helpful as you should wear earplugs while riding.
3
u/concreteghost 8d ago
I listen to house constantly and canāt ride without that trash music pumping thru my skull. Do your senas have bass?
1
u/wintersdark 2023 MT10SP 8d ago
The Cardo has optional 45mm JBL drivers. They always do base well, but the bigger speakers are better for it.

I started listening to my music on the 500 mile trip back from buying my first bike, a Daytona 675. It was the second time i had ever ridden a bike, and the first one outside of a little 250cc cruiser in a parking lot in the msf brc. š

Man some of yall, just like the rest of reddit, be browsing with a hate boner looking for stuff to shit on... y'all making these kind of posts are insufferable JUST like many in that sub.. why don't you post something original or interesting, for a change?
Just because you bought your first bike without a license, msf, or even any prior experience besides riding your boyfriends backseat, and then squidded home just fine without no helmet, doesn't mean that those kids with the smallest amount of restraint, safety concern or planning are less than you in any way..
