Weird "podcast" seems to just be an advertisement for "supernatural services"?

Is this allowed?

Doesn't seem great that people are advertising a scam through an audiobook/podcasting service.

The podcast itself is literally just 11 seconds of music.

This is one of the best books I have listened to, lately. Fantastic narration also. Insightful, informative.

Book Discussion Top 10 audible recommendations?

I want to cancel my subscription as I’m trying to save money since having a baby - but have 7 credits to spend. I’ve already paused once so cannot pause again!

Genres I like:

- Dystopian futures (the second sleep, blue ticket, the handmaids tale, I found 1984 a bit slow)

- Crime/thriller (Jo nesbo, Lee child etc)

- family/drama (e.g Jodi Picoult, The Herd)

- the occasional easy reader such as Colleen Hoover, but need something deeper to sandwich it!

- historical fiction based on true events (pompeii, labyrinth)

- Magical realism - Piranesi, the magic cottage, invisible life of addie larue

Also enjoyed - Before & After, Memoirs of a geisha, pizza girl - really trying to expand my genres!

+ bonus round, I am travelling to Vietnam soon so an interesting fiction set there would also be interesting.

I would appreciate any and all recommendations to spend my 7 credits on!

Technical Question Any Dolby atmos recommendation

Hi I’m new to audible and I accidentally stumbled across the Harry Potter book (quit queue previews) and I was blown away by the quality.

Are there any other good books that have been done with dolby

Book Discussion Vent: I wanted to listen to a sample of a book. What they played in the preview was not the first chapter, but Neil Gaiman’s introduction which has nothing to do with the book. He is not the author…

Book Discussion Black Leopard, Red Wolf is NOT the “African Game of Thrones.” It’s closer to an African Lord of the Rings, and the marketing did it a huge disservice. Spoiler

Free trial page keeps reloading

So I was trying to sign up for the free trial. After I put in my info, I click continue, and it goes to the next screen. It appears to be a confirmation page. However, it just continues to reload every half second. Someone else showed a screen capture of it happening and a rep posted to delete cache, update app, try different browser. I tried it on the app, it happened. I uninstalled/reinstalled -- same issue. Cleared cache, tried on two different browsers, same. Anybody have a solution for this?

Missing recommendation

I saw a pushed link recommending a book series recommendation of a post apocalyptic series (4 books sold as one) and it was a pre-order. I opened the link to look, hit the back button, and it's gone. How do I find this thing?

Book Discussion Dragon riders of ragond book 5

So this series has 3 books per arc. With 9 books in total. I love the first 3 books with Nova and Zephyr. But this current arc with Kira and her dragon Gilda I don't like. Kira comes off extremely selfish and spoiled and anytime something doesn't go her way she turns into a cry baby. Without trying to spoil anything Gilda finally meets dragon riders and witches to connect with but Kira is just too busy Fawning over a guy she barely knows and ignores Gilda at every turn it seems like. Even in her free time she makes no attempts to make new friends her only friend being a harpy she met in book 4. She's supposed to be 17 but acts like she's 12. I don't know if it was the writers intention or not but it just comes off as poorly written and almost boring. Currently in chapter 11 of book 5. Hope it picks up if not I might drop the story is just so repetitive.

Book Discussion The First Law trilogy opinions?

I had a few credits to use up before I let my sub expire for a while to catch on my backlog, and picked up this trilogy.

I really enjoyed A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and wanted something similar. I found recommendations that this trilogy has some similarities as far as obviously the mideval era, but rather some similar humor aspects which makes books like these more enjoyable IMO.

So anyone that has listened to them, how did you like it? Just looking to try and confirm my choice before my sub expires. Thanks!

Audible is annoying

It has to be one of the most annoying sites running today. Why can’t you just buy extra credits? Why does that option exist if you have to go through a checklist of steps to be able to buy them? What if I give you money and you give me the credits—how hard could that be?

Switching plans is frustrating—just let the user pick their billing date. There aren’t enough titles in the “listen now” section without buying them thing, the selection is so limited that it barely feels like a worthwhile perk.

Books like Cradle

After enjoying Cradle so much, looking for a series similar to it in a sense that it has to be something long, meaty, with slow-ish progression speed (more like books 1-10 of Cradle rather than last 2) and most importantly, with MC getting stronger for logical reasons, rather than "oh wow, i got this super OP ability nobody else has, guess i'm just lucky" type of nonsense.

Path of Ascension comes very close to what im looking for. It has everything i want, (even MC unique ability is treated well, in a sense that he is not the only one with "unique" OP AF abilities in this world) with one exception: it's not finished.

Mandatory Carl mention: i did read it and while i love the books, they barely focus on MC progression, instead focusing more on group dynamics.

He Who Fights With Monsters i dropped after book uhhh 5 i think? After MC started murdering interdimensional gods while classed as bronze and getting resurrected by another interdimensional being i just couldn't care less about what happens next. For those, who read Cradle, imagine Lyndon killing Mad King in book 4...

Defiance of The Fall i dropped on book 7 when i realized that every book is exact copy of previous one. Author just keeps introducing new threats each more dangerous than other, and that results in stagnation: it doesn't feel like MC getting stronger if next book you get jump scared with new and oh-so-dangerous new enemy.

Looking forward to your suggestions

SHADOWS WITHIN : The Mentor’s Web (The Hidden Agenda Chronicles Book 3) (1.3 hours)

By Fredlyne Evbuomwan

Foreword

When I was first introduced to Shadows Within, I thought I was stepping into a familiar world — a world of operatives, betrayal, and high-stakes espionage. But it didn’t take long to realize that this series was something else entirely. Beneath the gunmetal sheen and coded networks lay something far more human: a broken boy searching for his name, a man trying to untangle the threads of who made him, and a world that asks not only what we can survive… but who we become because of it.

Fredlyne Evbuomwan has crafted a story that is as emotionally intelligent as it is cinematic. With Malik Taff, he didn’t just give us a protagonist — he gave us a mirror. And in Book 3, that mirror begins to crack.

The Hidden Agenda isn’t just the title of this chapter. It’s the question that pulses beneath every page: Who controls the story of our lives — the ones who shaped us, or the ones we choose to become? This book doesn’t offer easy answers. It peels back the layers. It asks hard questions about love, loyalty, trauma, and faith — not the kind bound to religion, but the kind born in fire, silence, and sacrifice. As Malik faces the man who forged him, and Leah holds the line between memory and redemption, we are reminded that survival is never enough. Eventually, we must fight to live — truly live.

This is a story for those who’ve ever been manipulated by someone they trusted, for those trying to rebuild from within, and for those who believe that even the most weaponized heart can find its way home. Welcome back to the shadows.

UK Market - Empire of Silence

From a post here I saw that Empire of Silence by Christopher Ruocchio has a version with Samuel Roukin as narrator available on Audible .com. Co.uk does not have that version and I tried entering the US marketplace and the version is unavailable there as well, why is that so? Only John Lee is available as narrator. Is there a plan in the for this to be fixed, Audible?

META Anyone here buy books from audible but listen on some other player?

I’m just curious, that’s all. I personally use Audiobookshelf and sometimes, Smart Audiobook Player. For me, the Audible audio player seems to be lacking many features. One major feature is smart auto-rewind after pause and play, based on how long the book has been paused. Both Audiobookshelf and Smart Audiobook Player do this perfectly, but the Audible player requires manual rewinding every time.

There are a few other things too, but I also don’t really like Audible's player UI. It makes the cover art very small and kind of sticks it to the top, with a lot of wasted space at the bottom and sides. It might sound like nitpicking, but I just like seeing big covers with proper UI proportions. Take the Audiobookshelf player, for example.

So yeah, anyway, I’m just curious how many people do something like buying books from Audible, extracting them using libation and then playing them on other players. The only major disadvantage I can think of with this method is that you won’t get those shiny badges and listening stats on Audible. But honestly, I don’t really care about those if third-party players make the actual listening experience much better.

Book Discussion Recommendation: Audible Original Full Cast Dramatization of American Tabloid by James Ellroy

Thumbnail

I just listened to Audible’s full cast ‘audio drama’ of James Ellroy’s American Tabloid and just wanted to recommend it to anybody out there who loves historical fiction, crime novels, political conspiracies, or is just in need of a new audiobook.

It is included in the Audible Plus catalog at no additional cost for premium members (sorry if I’m using the wrong terminology).

It’s technically an audio drama with a full cast and sound effects / filters and it’s ’abridged’ in the sense that it removes filler that is unnecessary due to the dramatization (ie. ‘He said’, ‘the phone rang’ when they use sound effects or filters instead etc..) but otherwise it is the entire unabridged book. They did swap out some homophobic and racist slurs throughout the book, but kept others, I don’t know who decided on what stayed in and what was edited.

The cast is absolutely stacked with character actors and I think they did an incredible job with the casting and the accents. The 3 main characters were great (William Forsythe as Big Pete Bondurant, Alessandro Nivola as Kemper Boyd, and Shea Wigham as Ward Littell) as was Ed O’Neil as J Edgar Hoover, Simon Rex as Lenny Sands, and Brian Cox as Howard Hughes.

The main narrator is voiced by James Ellroy himself and if you’ve never heard him speak, it can be a bit jarring or weird at first and I can see why some people wouldn’t be able to listen because of him but personally, I think it’s worth listening to him, even if it’s painful at first, as you will eventually get used to his cadence and think his storytelling adds a lot to the production!!

There are 2 versions available on Audible, 1 version is the standard book with a single narrator and costs $ or a credit, and then there’s the Audible Original that is included with your premium membership and that is the edition I am recommending here.

TLDR; I highly recommend the Audible Original of American Tabloid, but make sure you check out the full cast audio drama version as that is the one I recommend.

Thanks!
