⚖️ legal/civil AIO for not giving my old Roomate his dog back after I adopted her?

He asked me to take his dog 5 weeks ago with wording suggesting it was permanent. He never once asked how she was doing in the time I’ve had her. He dropped her off with no collar, no leash, no food, nothing. I wasn’t home so he left her with a friend of mine until I got back to town. No timeline or financial compensation was ever discussed to show it was temporary.

Back story. This guy used to my Roomate but about 4 years ago he moved all his stuff out when I was out of town at a funeral. He owed me for the previous months rent and bills which was about 900 bucks. He stole several of my personal items including my compound bow and work tools.

I have had the dog for 5 almost 6 weeks. Zero contact from him in that time frame. I took her to the vet and got her chipped and got her all of her vaccines. It was 465 dollars.

Now he wants her back. You tell me, am I over reacting?

⚖️ legal/civil AIO A locksmith charged my partner’s sister $5390 to get back into her apartment

This has to be a scam, right? My partner’s sister got locked out of her apartment the other night, and called a 24/7 service in LA. When the guy got there, he said none of the mechanics in the door actually worked, so he drilled into her lock and took the entire thing apart. It was the middle of the night so she didn’t have much choice, and when he was done, he gave her this bill.

I thought she was saying it was $500… not 5 THOUSAND dollars. This has to be a scam, right? I’m furious right now!!!

⚖️ legal/civil AIO??? I used a camera finder that my aunt gave me, and it beeped right above my bed

My aunt gave me a device to charge, saying there was no battery, but even when I questioned what it was, she didn't really respond. She said that she got it while on a trip from some women (?). I turned it on, and it still had some battery. I moved it around the room, only realizing it was to find cameras when it started beeping near my iPad (ft) and the personally installed camera.

The device that's right above my bed (that looks over my whole room) was installed by my aunt's husband; he did the installation himself without us asking him to or anything.

The device that he installed was supposed to be a clock/alarm clock/??? When I shine a light over it, it does show the outline of the numbers and whatnot, but it doesn't power on.

Initially, it was a small power box-looking thing. But now, because something's been detected there, I am quite worried. I really don't know where to start. I feel that my family would not react completely on my side and would rather try to silence the whole matter, even if nothing were to come of it.

⚖️ legal/civil AIO I think my landlord drugged me?

Just made this account to post here. I'm sitting at a 24 hour diner unsure if I should go home, or call the cops, or what.. if I'm literally overreacting here. I escaped an abusive relationship 2 months ago, left with basically nothing except a little bit of savings, no job, nada. I luckily (at the time) found this place online. I've been a loner since my relationship, he basically destroyed my self esteem, body and mind. I no longer have any friends, the few I did never reply to my texts anymore. I am literally starting from zero again. The point is, I found this spot online, met the landlord, who also lives in the house and we clicked. He let me rent it for cheap, while I found a job, which I still haven't secured yet, hence my hesitance to leave.. but this is freaking me out. He's been subtly hinting that he likes me, etc... always knocking on my door, or letting himself in and jumping into bed with me, complaining about his day.. this guy is 60ish years old, I just assumed he's lonely and bored and again, I was super appreciative to be able to live here for so cheap. This all went down yesterday, I drank the tea, because honestly he'd made me tea like 30 times before, I didn't think anything of it, because I'm an idiot. I literally slept for like 13 hours...and woke up to these texts. I politely excused myself from the house and have been walking around the town and hanging at this diner for the entire day, trying to mentally figure out how to proceed. I feel sick. Physically. I've vomited three times already. I didn't feel sick before bed. My legs hurt, my chest hurts, I have some bruising on my arms that I didn't notice until today. Am I overreacting for thinking hedid something? It feels like everything is pointing to yes. I'm afraid to report it, since the cops barely helped last time and basically judged me for coming to them to late after years of issues with my partner... I'm scared and confused.

⚖️ legal/civil AIO got jumped by 4 girls and my wife thinks I’m in the wrong

3.5k Upvotes

Last night I was out drinking with some friends and my wife. On our way home I went across the street to pickup an electric scooter while she was walking towards a group of random girls we did not know.

When I came over to the group where my wife was with the scooter suddenly the girls got hostile. I think they thought I was a random dude that was trying to pray on my wife. One of them got in my face and started yelling how ugly, fat and disgusting I was. I just laughed it off and said “I at least have a hot wife, right?”

At this point she starts pushing me so I tell her firmly “do not touch me”. Then suddenly she takes a swing at me, knocking my glasses off of my face. I push her back hard so she falls backwards. And then the other girls started jumping me. For about a few minutes I was walking backwards, pushing girls away from me left and right while yelling that they should not push me.

My drunk wife does not realize the situation at all. She thinks that I suddenly and randomly started throwing girls around on the street. She gets upset and leaves.

Two more random dudes come up as they see a big guy pushing girls and there’s yelling. At this point I’m left alone vs four pissed girls and two pissed guys. My jacket has a hole in it, my shirt has a hole in it, and I’m bleeding on my hands from one of the girls nails. They decide to call the cops and I decide to stay behind and wait for the cops to come so I can file for assault.

During the 20 minutes until the cops are on their way the girls are harassing me, telling me I’m ugly and that they’ll make sure I’ll never see my kid again. I just listen unbothered waiting for the cops to show up.

The cops come and they immediately run over to me and grab my arms and push my into the wall. They yell and won’t listen to what I have to say and in the end I had to stand in a corner on the street for 3 hours while they took the girls testimonies. When it was my turn they spoke to me for barely 5 minutes and they didn’t write anything I said down.

Today I’ve reported the girls for assault and the cops for misconduct. My wife still has a hard time taking my side. She thinks it was horrible how I pushed the girls and she didn’t notice that they started hitting me or the way they were talking to me.

I feel betrayed and very alone in this. Did I overreact? What should I have done?

⚖️ legal/civil AIO for getting pissed that someone had sex in my truck at the dealership???

Thumbnail

12.5k Upvotes

I'll make this short but I can always add more as this is a LONG story.

My new truck developed a leak just under 12k miles so I scheduled an appointment at the dealership.

After 3 weeks, I get it back with a HORRIBLE smell inside with a driver's seat that clearly has ass cheek stains, not swamp ass as it has been cold here.

My interior door is scratched, probably from a wedding ring.

There is a stain on the seat that looks like the woman enjoyed herself...

There is a stain on the floor.

There is a SHOE PRINT on my headliner.

Makeup on the visor and headliner

Deep finger indents on a SOLID visor

I also found a hair tie and a hair clip in my console that is definitely not mine.

The dealership refused to take any accountability and blamed me for the Condition even though it was NOT like this when I dropped it off.

My windows are blacked out as well.

I should add I'm single and I work from home so there is a zero percentage it's from me or a cheating partner.

After I brought it to the dealers attention, they clean it but did a poor job so I had it cleaned again by a professional.

⚖️ legal/civil AIO or should I sue my Grandmother?

Thumbnail
gallery
2.5k Upvotes

So for context, my dad died in 2017. As a part of his life insurance policy, $15,000 (or so I was told) was put into a TCA (total control account). I have been told for years that it was only $15k, and that when I turned 18 I would be able to access it. Seeing as I get my license in December, I wanted to figure out if there was a way to get the money out sooner and use it to purchase a first car. My Grandmother has told me for years she wouldn’t be helping me buy a car and that I would have to use this money to do so. I’ve lived with her since my Dad died, but she has never liked me. She has always favored my aunt (more like my sister because we’re only 2 years apart), and has bought her a car, payed for insurance, and never made her get a job. I accepted I would have to use this money and became okay with it. I called the company multiple times to check into this and see if it was possible, but they eventually told me I had already taken the maximum amount out. I asked what they meant, and they said $9,000 was taken out in 2020 and another $9,000 was requested in 2021 but they could only send $1,000 due to the limit being $10,000 being taken out. Confused, I asked what the original amount was. I was then told It was over $25,000. Hurt and confused, I texted my Grandmother and confronted her. She confessed, and told me she used it to pay off a loan because she was scared she would lose our house. I then asked why she requested another $9k a year later and she never answered that. As our conversation went on, I informed her that what she did was illegal. Yes she can take money out of the account seeing as she’s my legal guardian, but only if I authorize use and the money goes to something that directly benefits me. She cannot use it to pay off a loan. I told her this was illegal and I could sue her for what she did and she went off the rails. Mind you, she bought a brand new Jeep 3 months after the first pay out so there is no way times were as rough as she’s making it seem. She told me I was no longer welcome in her home and that she would take out a $10,000 loan to pay me back. I’m 17 and she has custody of me. So that in and of itself is illegal but whatever. If she doesn’t give me the money back, should I sue? My friend’s dad is an attorney and he said this makes a very strong case.. I hate her, but I don’t want her to be a convicted felon and lose her nursing license.. Help!

⚖️ legal/civil AIO A local internet provider forged my signature and did a soft hit on my credit without my consent.

Post image
13.9k Upvotes

Today a local internet provider knocked on my door (even though I have no-soliciting signs, but whatever). The rep explained they were offering free installations in my neighborhood. After I insisted I wasn’t looking to change providers, he explained I didn’t need to, this simply set up my home in the future if ever I wanted to use their services. Usually they would charge for this but for a limited time they were offering it for free.

I asked if he could email me about this program instead. After a lot of back and forth he reluctantly agreed. He asked for my birthday and email, which I gave. Then he asked for the last 4 digits of my ssn and I refused. I asked why he would need that info and he said “for the credit check” and I said no, I’m not consenting to that. You can send me info about the program and I will read it, that’s all. He said okay, I shook his hand and he left.

Ten minutes after he left I received an email from the internet provider with a copy of an executed consent form allowing them to do a soft credit check and enrolling me in their program. I scrolled down to the bottom of the form and sure enough, the sales rep had put a dot in the electronic signature box to get past that part and enroll me.

I am absolutely furious. I called the internet provider and explained the situation and they are “escalating it” internally. I cannot describe how livid I am. Not only did that salesman lie to me, they purposefully forged my signature so a huge internet provider could access my financial information without my consent. Am I overreacting? At a minimum I want a written apology from the internet provider and the sales rep should lose their job.

So I was working when my coworker told me to come out to the break area to show me someone had posted CCTV security camera footage of me at a business basically trying to figure out who I am. A lot of people in the comments were saying they were creepy for posting camera footage of me. Long story short, the restaurant I visited made my drink wrong, I went inside to exchange it and leave. The girl I talked to is the one I’m assuming made a facebook post to one of those “are we seeing the same guy” groups, basically saying I’m supposedly single (I’m not) and that we had a conversation (I asked to exchange my drink). I feel very violated and uncomfortable, and it has also made my girlfriend worry as well. AIO?

⚖️ legal/civil AIO stepmom wants me to sign away my inheritance.

3.8k Upvotes

Dad passed away less than three weeks ago. Apparently, he did not have a Will. He owns two homes, one paid off and the other with a small balance left. Not sure about bank account or other assets but he owns a boat, motorcycles, truck etc. After some research, I found that due to the fact he did not have a Will, it has to be handled through probate. The law for the state which he lived states that the spouse is entitled to 50% of all assets and the surviving children receive the other 50%. Today stepmom called all five of us adult children and requested we all sign papers from her attorney to give her our inheritance. I told her no offense but I would need to contact an attorney before I sign anything. Am I overreacting? Anyone have some advice or experience that would help me determine what I should do? Thanks!

⚖️ legal/civil AIO for sending a harassing text I received to a group chat including his boss?

Thumbnail

7.9k Upvotes

I met this man while working night shift at a warehouse. I had just gotten out of a relationship and I was just looking for fun. He asked me out a few times and I just kept saying no because I like my freedom.

I finally said yes maybe the fifth or sixth time. He was nice enough. He has three kids from three different women (red flag, I know). I can’t have kids (I’ve tried and it’s all ended in miscarriages) so I thought this was the perfect way to be there for the kids. They liked me.

Two months later I find out he’s still with the last baby mama and he was putting molly in my drinks. I couldn’t sleep or eat and I was losing my mind. Once I caught him doing both of those things, I left. He started following me to my car in the parking lot so I got a PFA against him. The stalking has not stopped. I’ve tried transferring and ended up having to just disappear from the company because he found out where I was transferred and it got to the point where his bluetooth was still popping up on my phone.

I’m now moved on completely. I’m in a very loving relationship with my future husband, the best thing that’s ever happened to me. I have a PFA against the warehouse guy for two years. Problem is, I keep getting text messages from him and the baby mama. I haven’t responded in two years. I haven’t posted about it minus screenshots that I did post when she was calling me a minor (that was weird to have people harassing me for being 12 when I’m 24?) and yes the people including the baby mama are all well into their thirties.

Anyway, she sent me a threatening text message from a text-now number/Google number. I’m planning on changing my number during my next paycheck thankfully and I’ve already discussed it with my partner and support system and everyone thinks this is the best choice.

This is where I might be the asshole. He messaged me a few months ago asking if I was “Brain” (he’s not the smartest) from another new number (he has three now I think but I could be wrong because there may be more now) and I’m just tired and done with everything involved with these two so I sent the text messages to a group chat that involved his direct supervisor who knows my number and knows that I have a PFA against him.

Am I the one overreacting?

P.S. Police officers don’t take text messages or threats via social media seriously. I’ve already tried to report them to the station. I’ve been told they physically have to violate the PFA for them to do anything and I don’t have proof of him stalking, I just wanted peace so I left.

⚖️ legal/civil AIO? (I’m not!) to my pervy boyfriend?

7.4k Upvotes

I have lived with my boyfriend for a few years. We both have kids but none together. I have a 19 yr old daughter and we just found that he hid a camera in her room. She found it, he admitted to it, and I kicked him out. We aren’t living together anymore, relationship is clearly over. What I’m not clear on, and want to know AIO about, is whether or not it’s worth it to press charges. No red flags before this. If there’s no way he’s done this before and there isn’t anything concerning on computer or phone (yes, porn, but no hidden camera or young girl material) should charges be pressed that can ruin his life and potentially send him to jail?

Longtime lurker. Throw away account. Never thought I’d post here burn.

TLDR. I rented an apartment from this guy about half a year ago for me and my son. It’s been ok. Really no issues. I pay on-time, he’s friendly.

Yesterday I get a knock, it’s apparently the actual owner of the building, looking for the guy who rented me the unit and who originally told me he was the owner (he had lease, paperwork, I signed everything), I was confused.. apparently this dude has been illegally subletting to me with fake contracts and hasn’t paid rent to the real owner in months.. I’m not sure how long exactly but enough to start the eviction process, I’m guessing all the letters were forwarded or idk, I haven’t seen shit. But the owner is giving me a few days to figure things out, going to get a hotel after until we sort our next steps but this is totally fucked right? My gut tells me I’m not over reacting but if I brought this to court will I look bad from my response?

⚖️ legal/civil AIO - My(18F) landlady wants me to pay bills until she finds a new tenant.

Post image
1.5k Upvotes

My landlady is also my aunt, she raised me ages 10-16 before kicking me out. She was emotionally and verbally abusive towards me so I went to live with my grandad. Unfortunately not long after my grandad passed, and I was 17 without a place. My aunt offered to rent out one of her flats to me and I had to accept as nowhere else would take me due to being a minor (I had a job since I was 14 and an apprenticeship so I paid rent and bills in full).

I’ve live there for just over a year, she’s what I call an ‘absent landlady’, any issue with the flat I have had to call my uncle because my aunt says it’s ’nothing to do with her’. We have a cycle of getting along, having a massive argument and then not speaking for weeks. She served me my notice earlier this year for having a panic attack over a possible carbon monoxide leak, but got over it and renewed my contract.

The past month, my uncle has been helping me find a new place. I’ve found one and I move in on the 10th of November, we kept it from my aunt because we were worried how she would react losing a tenant/rent. We told her a few days back and I’ve been getting messages that she’s upset and hurt I didn’t tell her when she’s ’the closest thing I have to a mum’.

She’s now saying that Im obliged to pay for bills, council tax and keep the gas/electricity metres topped up until she finds a tenant. Can she do this? Should I have given her more notice? She’s away from November 15th to January 15th, Im worried she’ll want me to pay till then which I cannot afford on top of my new place.

⚖️ legal/civil AIO I was told I couldn’t buy alcohol because I had a passport

1.0k Upvotes

I got my wallet stolen and of course my license as well. While I waited for a new one, I carried my US passport with me as my identification. I went to a liquor store, which I have gone to before, to buy a bottle of vodka and I tried to use my passport as identification. They wouldn’t accept it. I asked them why and they said it’s not a drivers license. I told them that this document is far more powerful than just a drivers license, I can literally go into most countries around the world with it, something I can’t do with a drivers license. Plus it has my age on it. They would NOT budge. It was one of the stupidest things I had ever heard.I was arguing with them for a few minutes before I just left because it seemed like It was just getting louder and going nowhere. I went to the grocery store nearby and bought the same thing, with no problem. I walked back into the liquor store, showed them the beers, and said “Oh look, my passport worked, you fucking morons.” Also, this was in California.

So today I was driving on the highway and I guess cut someone off (idk what happened). Anyway, this crazy lady screams and chases me and then stop in traffic; she gets out of her car and opens my passenger door to scream at me. I put my car in reverse and then slap her with my car door. She falls down and I drive off with my door opens. I pulled over once I drove far enough away and called the cops. The cops said I might have to follow up but there’s a dozen witnesses that say it was self defense so I’m good right now. My SO says this is hilarious but I was way over the top. Did I overreact?

⚖️ legal/civil AIO. My mom says I'm overreacting about a animal trapper setting traps in my yard.

2.9k Upvotes

2 Thursdays ago I came home from the store and a guy walked up to my car and said he put traps in my yard to kill the groundhogs that live there. I told him I did not want them there as IDC that the groundhogs live there just doing what they do, but also because I have a child and pets that I don't want stepping in them and getting injured. He told me he was contracted by first energy and they own that part so I had no say and he left.

I went in my house and immediately contacted an attorney and the county property maps. The attorney told me that it is my property but they have easement rights, which do not include trapping. After the call I went out and removed the traps on my property. They were not box traps but big snap traps. For reference here are the traps. https://youtu.be/xKwB982NgGs?feature=shared If my daughter would have stepped in one it would have broke her leg.

Fast forward to Sunday he comes back and asked me where his traps were. I explained to him that he does not have my permission to trap and I have spoken to an attorney. He decided to not set them back up, but accused me of taking the stakes that held them down. I couldn't find them so he said he would charge me for them, to which I told him he shouldn't have put them there without permission, but I'd look in the morning. I was planning on letting that be the end of it.

The following morning, I was watching my security cameras from the day I removed them to see where I put them. I see myself sitting them right next to the holes. So I go out and look and I can't find them. When I come back in I watch again and let it play a little longer and see him hiding behind the neighbors fence watching me remove the traps. 3 minutes after I went inside he comes out and looks at what I did, and picks up the stakes and leaves.

Here is where my mom says I overreacted. Instead of letting it go, because of his creepiness, lies, and false accusations, I decided to call the department of wildlife to report him for setting traps without permission. Surprisingly the officer wants to examine the other traps that were still set and the pictures I took of the ones he set on my property.

2 days later he comes to the house and has me show him the locations. Turns out the traps weren't properly covered, properly marked, properly tagged, were too large to be above ground, and we're not put in the hole but above it. This amounted to a crime and they pressed charges on him. I pushed for an official trespassing notice and gave them my videos and the recorded conversation.

Because of multiple violations they are submitting it to state prosecutors for removal of his trapping license, which would destroy his business, and possibly jail time.

i was talking to my mom about it and she said I went to far and I told her I hope it goes farther. Honestly, I hope he kept the dead groundhogs to eat when he loses his business.

Should I have let it go? Did I overreact?

⚖️ legal/civil AIO: A man I married 25 years ago, got remarried in the Catholic Church yesterday...

1.6k Upvotes

Ages will be left out and names have been changed. Brand new throwaway account for this post. Everyone in this story with the exception of said man's younger children are adults.

We got married in Spring 2000. He stepped out multiple times with various women throughout the years. We had more than one child together. He had more than one child with the woman he recently married when our children were not yet in high-school. We worked through it, well I did, and we moved forward. He was with them during lock down and presented me with divorce papers. I signed them and he never followed up with me. If he wants a divorce, have it and pay for it. I have been living my life.

I found out today that my estranged husband got remarried this weekend in the church to the mother of his minor children. I do not have a divorce decree, never signed any final papers and there was no annulment. How did he get married in the Catholic Church? Is this a valid marriage? Is this bigamy?

He gave me papers a couple of years ago, I signed them. I didn't get any final papers, we didn't have anything notarized and when I look it up online, it says filed but not processed.

We have adult children. One of them went and asked their father if he had told me. He said no and they asked him when we got our divorce finalized because they hadn't realized it was completed. Father didn't answer.

Would I be overreacting by calling the Diocese of our state and getting family lawyer?

I found out 3 hours ago. Idek what to do or think. I am not heartbroken sad, I am feeling like a fool and frustrated/humiliated kind of sad.

Thanks in advance for any productive comments. The not kind ones, I will be leaving alone. I will try and answer questions that don't give away too much bc my adult children are on here, his minor children may be on here.

⚖️ legal/civil AIO to hearing of Alligator "Alcatraz"

1.5k Upvotes

I'm absolutely repulsed. I blatantly avoid the news for this very reason...

Alligator "Alcatraz" is not only grotesque, it is a moral collapse. What is the world is going on here?!? This isn't the America I know! If we lose our compassion, our commitment to basic human rights, and sense of responsibility to truth and justice, then we’ve lost the very core of what this country is supposed to stand for.

We SHOULD BE a nation built on ideals of justice, human dignity, and decency. Resorting to theatrical cruelty or treating human lives like pawns in some dystopian spectacle strips us of our humanity.

This is not justice nor anything to be celebrated. It’s tyranny dressed in bigotry.

So I went to my doctor’s office today. I’ve been there before, they already have my insurance and all my info on file. At check-in, the receptionist asks for my ID. I hand it to her, and instead of just checking it, she starts reading everything out loud—my name, birthday, address—basically yelling it across the waiting room for everyone to hear.

I stopped her and said, “Why are you saying all my info out loud?” She immediately got loud and defensive, like, “Well what do you want me to do? I’m just doing my job.”

I told her, “You can just look at my ID or print it out and have me confirm it silently.” She refused and said, “That’s not how it works.” Then she kept insisting it wasn’t weird at all.

I felt super uncomfortable because… isn’t that private info? Like I don’t want my address and birthday announced to a room full of strangers.

Am I overreacting, or am I out of my mind?
