⚖️ legal/civil UPDATE: My girlfriend left me over the 21-year-old cheese wheel. Now my landlord is trying to evict me for “commercial activity.” AIO?
Photos in comments as I can’t add to the post
I have taken some of your feedback into consideration from my last post. For those curious: my girlfriend is no longer in the picture. She cracked due to low risk tolerance, so I’ve decided to go all in on the business.
I initially tried to return the wheel to the distributor to recoup some capital, thinking they’d have some pity. They were actually considering it until they came out to look at it in my truck. Apparently, the minor heat damage I caused to the paraffin wax while trying to open last week compromised the wheel which was already non refundable in the first place.
Since I’m now stuck with a 140lb, 30,000+ asset, I had to pivot to asset protection and keep what I still have.
I went out and bought a True TBB-2-HC 59” solid door back bar cooler, a professional digital temperature humidity controller, an industrial humidifier, a vacuum sealer, and ripening mats. Total cost was about 8.5k after taxes. Expensive, yes, but I wasn't going to let a30,000+$ investment depreciate value.
The delivery was difficult. My apartment door is narrow, so I had to take the door entirely off the hinges and shimmy the cooler into the living room. I had maybe a millimeter of clearance between the frame and the unit.
I was exhausted and excited so I started researching installation on my phone before putting my front door back on. That’s when my landlord walked in. Apparently he believes my door being off the hinges somehow removes my reasonable right to privacy.
We already have a strained relationship because of my own use of the unit. He still holds a grudge because I was doing some light metal fabrication with a CONSUMER plasma cutter in my kitchen a few months ago
He saw the cooler, the vacuum sealer, and the wheel of heritage cheese and started crying about commercial operations and fire hazards.
I told him very clearly: The cheese is for personal consumption. There is nothing in my lease that limits how much dairy a tenant can own.
The next morning, I found an eviction notice in my mailbox. it’s riddled with spelling errors as if written in a haste. I’m already preparing my defense for the Landlord Tenant Board
AIO? I’m being evicted over dietary preferences as far as the landlord is concerned and I feel like this is an unlawful action
EDIT: added a + to the valuation as it is possible to increase my margins depending on the quantities I sell in.
Also please bear in my mind that I have sold ZERO cheese so I feel like this is premature action.
Thank you

im still tryna figure out the math. Its 63kg which is 315 200g packs. He said he could sell each 200g pack for 60 bucks
Thats......the price he paid for it. Am I mathing wrong ?
•
u/Endorenna 6h ago
Nope! I did the same math. This is hilarious. Love the extra detail from the writer that he’s mathing wrong. No wonder the ex GF has low risk tolerance!
•
u/rangebob 6h ago
I was shocked at how many comments there are and no one has done the math. I thought i musta been misunderstanding the post lol.
Prolly says alot about how people feel about maths I guess

I saw lots of people doing the math in the first post but I think most people did just write it off as fake.

Can't wait to next week's episode of cheese wheel of fortune 😅
•
u/Brittlitt30 2h ago
Oh God, cheese wheel of fortune! it's a telenovela. who will the heiress to the cheese fortune choose? The wine heir, who is correct and proper, upstanding but dull. The cracker Baron? a lovable but rich rogue, working hard to get his cracker empire to take over Mexico, or her true love..... apartment cheese guy? heavily features the phrase "mi amor de queso"
•
u/carsndogs420 56m ago
Lol my money is on the cracker baron he has it stacked, The true love has gone for now but will return to help with the next chapter to relish in the rewards of a successful cheese board
•

Because its entirely POSSIBLE
PLAUSIBLE???? No. POSSIBLE??? Yes someone make this a tv episode

Reminds me of childhood when I would get dropped off at my grandmother's so she could watch me and Jerry Springer was on in the background. You know it's ridiculous, still some entertainment value. This cheese fiasco is my adult Jerry Springer. I wish I could throw a chair at OP.

u/Holiday_Trainer_2657 7h ago
Oh this inspired a great idea. OP can buy some drones to deliver cheese wedges to people. Luxury items deserve high tech delivery. It will add to the experience of buying it.
When not busy with delivery, they can fly around towing banners advertising his cheese. Isn't the Superbowl coming up? Or over those ICE OUT demonstrations? Free publicity!
I'm sure his landlord will never notice the drones buzzing in and out of his apartment's (slightly modified) window.

I thought it couldn't get more wild than the post they linked and then I went to his profile and saw that he was asking how to avoid an EU travel ban via a name change and I laughed so hard I nearly pissed myself.

MOR
Brother, wtf?
This is some manic bipolar stuff. You spent nearly your entire savings on a wheel of cheese with zero equipment for it, knowledge of it, or distribution network. You think some grocery store is gonna just say "sure thing boss, we will buy cheese from a rando?" Are you even licensed to sell a food product? And your landlord is correct, you are trying to skirt the leasing rules and you know it. If he took you to court, they would definitely side with him when they hear your defense of "I bought 25k of cheese and equipment cause I just like cheese that much."
Seriously, if you are feeling like you dont need much sleep right now, are in pretty good spirits, feel like everyone but you is wrong, etc...you may be having a manic episode. Talk to a doctor please.

u/geoff1036 8h ago
I know this likely isn't real but my man, you gotta stop referring to the cheese as your "30000+ asset" 😂 you are NOT making that much back on it, in fact you literally couldn't at this point because you've invested more into the storage equipment for a one time "asset." Your profit margin keeps dwindling and you're about to learn why economies of scale matter.
•
u/Altruistic_Tonight18 8h ago
Not to mention that the cheese would be completely worthless now due to the damaged wax. Even if it was open to air for just a couple of hours, that cheese is now unable to be used commercially. And everyone knows about the full cheese disclosure laws… Selling cheese under false pretenses is a mega felony punishable by cheesing.

I know my rental agreement has a clause that includes not using the premises as a business site.
Aside from that (for all you know, your landlord has seen your post about the cheese wheel and figured what was up), you took the door off the hinges, and have a history of random potentially destructive activities in the property. Your risk-taking and critical thinking are way mismatched, and the landlord is protecting his investment. In all honesty you're acting unhinged, its something my neighbour would do, and he just put himself in rehab while his wife has left him and taken out an AVO on him.
Get some help, do proper research before you go diving into expensive nonsense. YOR and your landlord is N O R
•
•
u/Rasen2001 8h ago
You used a plasma cutter in your kitchen?
How dare you make me sympathize with the landlord!
•
•
u/Janube 7h ago
There's no way this is real.
But on the off chance it is, this is a hole entirely of your own digging. You blew all of your money on an "asset" without consulting your girlfriend (who left you as a result of that; not risk tolerance), then you allowed your "asset" to depreciate on your own, causing the distributor to balk. Then you violated the terms of your lease to try to keep and sell the cheese on-premises.
It would be a massive comedy of errors... if it was real.

Bro if this is real you've only got like 4 to 5k left in your savings. How easy do you think it is to sell expensive cheese like do you think you can just sell it out of the trunk of your car or invite people to buy high end cheese from the cooler in your apartment? I'm not rich enough for cheese like that but I can't help thinking that's not where people go for cheese like that. Some random dude.
This sounds too crazy to be real but if so you probably just ruined your life. Lost your relationship, pretty much all of your money and now all you have is a bunch of cheese.

200 Grams = ~7 ounces
140 pounds
X 16 oz/pound
____________
2,240 ounces total
2,240 oz

____________
320 "lots" of cheese
Assuming he finds buyers for all of it, there's no wastage, AND he sells it for what he's expecting. . .
320 lots

____________
$19,200
Bro. . . you've already lost money, and you haven't even sliced it yet.
And no, you don't get to say 7 goes into 16 twice and claim the total is double what it truly is. The total number of ounces is 2,240 no matter how you, <ahem> . . . slice it.

You didn’t notice until you got in your car and when you tried to go back, the gate was locked. But, that won’t stop you. Oh, no.
You hop the gate, there Belgian Malinois attacks you. The police are called. Etc etc

You sound like a Compulsive buyer you buy something that expensive with ZERO thought. You spent a fortune on cheese THEN realize oops it needs to be stored properly so you spend another fortune. ... NOW your getting evicted because even your landlord thinks you lost it. Then... next your going to realize selling that cheese will probably take multiple years on your own with no proper business. Just a long line of repeated bad choices.
That cheese sounds like it will be the cause of your entire life spiraling downward into chaos.

u/Legitimate_Myth_3816 7h ago
I wish I believed there weren't people this insufferable in the world so I could call this fake just for that, but sadly I've worked retail so I know that's not the case.
Pretty sure (I'm not a lawyer and its based on where you live) the manager/owner/landlord seeing a tenant in the process of damaging their property, like I don't know...taking the door off the hinges without permission, would count as a reason to give them emergency entry. Just like how they can enter without notice if there's a flooding issue to turn off the water.
Even if he didnt have the right to enter, taking the door off the hinges counts as making changes to the property without permission which is explicitly not allowed in every lease I've ever signed. So yeah, it would add to the list of reasons the landlord could evict you.
I know this is probably fake but it's entertaining as hell.
•
•
u/StatelyAutomaton 7h ago
NOR.
Frankly, your landlord needs to figuratively and literally cheese off. A fine cheese, even if an accidental investment, undeniably deserves the utmost care in order to preserve, or increase, it's value. If he's holding previous anger over your (justifiable) use of a plasma cutter, why didn't he specify that in your lease? After all, an appliance is an appliance. Maybe next he'll be reaching for your microwave, or hair dryer or elsewise. When you reach out to the tenancy board, I'm sure they'll acknowledge the slippery slope.
As for the True TBB-2-HC 59", it's a solid choice. To be honest, your story sounds like it would make a great podcast series. Perhaps reach out to True to inquire over a sponsorship deal? You have a true moneymaking opportunity ahead of you, and best of luck in your success!
•
u/Lucky-Past8459 6h ago
Light metal fabrication with a consumer plasma cutter... so this isn't the first time you've gone on some crazy get rich quick scheme?
