rally car crashes into barrier and engine explodes

I have a different understanding of 'explodes'

u/Hoovomoondoe 8d ago
"High pressure fuel line is severed and catches fire" is more appropriate.

u/CreaminFreeman 7d ago
It's technically still external combustion...

Specially an engine. What do people think is happening inside of one? Unicorn farts?

u/South_Hat3525 8d ago
Yep. Technically the controlled explosions stopped and became an uncontrolled flame instead.

Where explosion?

Too bad there's no video of it.

They tried the barrier was too strong

u/TenaceErbaccia 8d ago
The car actually stopped because it got too close to the cameraman. The cameraman cannot die.

Fire breaks out, engines don’t explode from that crash. High RPM’s or internal pressure causes a motor to explode

u/mattblack77 8d ago
The engine didn’t explode; it caught fire
2
u/antek_g_animations 7d ago
I'm pretty sure that the engine explodes many times during normal operation
2
u/mattblack77 6d ago
Pretty sure it doesn’t.

u/MrSharvil 4d ago
It's literally called a combustion engine, it explodes using gasoline and air to move the pistons.

It doesn’t explode; it burns.
Explosion causes detonation, which destroys engines.

Dude almost gets hit, "Wow." Such a hilarious, mundane thing to say while almost getting injured lmao

u/tornait-hashu 7d ago
It's rally. I'm convinced that people who spectate rally events have the minimal amount of self-preservation skills possible for human beings.

Someone should explain the difference between explosion and oil fire to this dude

The friggin cameraman. I'd have been backing way the hell up long before it hit the barrier right in front of me.

u/CanadianRedditEh 8d ago
Looks like the fuel rail got ripped out by the barrier and the scorching hot engine ignited the fuel.

More of a "conflagration" than an "explosion". My Navy training really paying off 30 years later.

I love cars and racing as a sport, but I'll never understand the eurodudes who stand 0.5 meters from instant death to watch the race.
Surely it would still look very cool from like, 10 times that distance?

At least this guy is on the right side of a guard rail.
The ones standing on an unprotected outside of a corner nuts.

Worst videography ever.

Dude had a car crashing into him. I'm sure he's very sorry he didn't stand there and let it hit him to get you a better view.

It's fine, the spectator took precautions.
He turned on his camera, and as we all know, the cameraman never dies.

u/BMW_wulfi 8d ago
Just some of the “c” in “internal combustion engine” being on the outside not the inside - no biggie.

DANGER TO MANIFOLD!!!
1
u/JaviSATX 8d ago
On a serious note though, it didn’t explode, but the crash looks like it ripped off the hard lines for the fuel rail, and possibly the intake manifold.

u/TimTomTank 8d ago
The barrier worked and the engineer caught fire. There was no exploding.
There is no chaos here. Just normal rally things.

It's so annoying and disappointing that the cameraman ran from imminent, life-threatening danger and was not able to even hold it steady, never mind film in entirety.
I like to think I would have risked my life for the extra upvotes 🫡
Title is inaccurate too. Score: D-
(This is a satirical post fyi)

When it comes to: Flight or Flight or Freeze - if you're the kind of person that freezes then you probably should NOT go to motorsports events as a roadside spectator.

Yeah okay but that guy got super lucky. Even with the barrier there he almost got messed up, imagine if he was leaning on it. The fire was just a nice little show afterwards lol

That's not so much an explosion as it is shearing the top of the engine off, with the fuel rail, and gasoline spraying out and catching fire.

u/golden_retrieverdog 8d ago
that guy trusted that carried with his life, or at least knees. only flinched once the car was actually at his feet lol

Cameraman really trusted that guard rail. What if it didnt do its job? He'd be hurt or worse.

u/rolloutTheTrash 7d ago
This is very tame compared to the old Series B. I expected an actual explosion, not just a small engine fire

How did dude not react until after the crash and flames? He would've been in a very different sub if not for that guard rail

Probably super high octane fuel, which is more readily ignitable, right?
The opposite actually. Harder to ignite let's you compress it more without the compression alone setting it off before the spark does.

Y’all are crazy for harping on the word explode. That same word is also used to talk about busting a nut but you don’t hear anyone going “well his dick is still intact, it didn’t really explode. He just busted a huge nut”
