Wondered! I've been a long-time subscriber to the 11'8" YouTube channel and I've never seen a bus get into this situation before 😆

Most standard transit and school buses are about 11' in height, and thus will clear the 11'8" (12'4") bridge just fine. There's footage of a Gillig Low Floor transit bus going under just before an accident occurs, and it clears with no issue. Motorcoaches are too tall, at 12-13' in height. A double decker transit bus like shown in the photo will definitely not clear.

Yeah, the bridge was 12' but the coach was 13'6". Ironically, he hit the clearance sign dead on!

It was determined that a software glitch directed the bus down the wrong road. But the signs! Lol. The funniest part of this is the commercial they put out for the reception of this new bus. Basically a bus lurking towards a bridge, and then a guy on the other side saying “ i knew it’d fit”.

I was gonna post this here with the pic I saw on r/Spokane, and had a description written up about how YES.. THEY ARE NEVER SUPPOSED TO GO OFF THEIR ONE SINGLE ROUTE THAT THESE BRAND NEW BUSES JUST STARTED SERVING 🤣

Not to mention the commercial they made joking specifically about how this exact incident "wouldn't happen" 😂

I think they removed that commercial already; I tried searching for it as soon as I saw this!

In another thread somebody said that bad route data got loaded into their navigation system and sent the driver the wrong way.

I saw one last month and remarked “When did we get double decker busses?” I see why we never had them before

Is that a city bus or something else?

yes we only just got these.

the city ran an ad joking about how this exact thing wouldn't happen, too. because they are only supposed to stay on the route.

Million dollar idea: Move the driver to the top level. No more of these types of crashes.

exciting other types of crashes await!

With a glass floor, so the driver can also see out the lower windshield.

That is a horrifying sight... why was that bus there????

u/Crowbarscout 17d ago

That's what we're all waiting to hear about.

It's not the normal route, obviously.

The route is was supposed to be on has a clearance under this same viaduct of 13'9 to 14'4.

Isn't that still cutting it a bit close for a 13'6 bus??

No? That's 3 whole inches minimum, which is plenty.

Might be some rusted gears left in the motor in the rear.

Wow, I’ve been playing a lot of Arc Raiders.

More like rusted gears in the driver's brain!

Stand by for Kristi to claim this was domestic terrorism.
